Feel welcome from day one with a professional, collaborative and empowering team across Australia
The good thingsI really loved the support I received from the moment I applied until I started my job. The onboarding process was smooth, clear and welcoming, which helped me to feel comfortable from day one. The team culture is inclusive and collaborative, which made adjusting to my new role easier than expected. I have continued to meet new people throughout the team that empower me to succeed in my role and happily engage with me to make this happen.
The challengesIn my experience, communication was great, and the timing between interviews was clear and reasonable. Every person I met was professional and welcoming. However, I think the company could improve its marketing efforts for recruitment. Despite being on job boards like Seek every day, I only saw the advertisement at the last minute. Targeting specific audiences and engaging them with clear and transparent role descriptions would help attract more successful candidates and ensure better visibility for job openings.

A supportive workplace with strong learning opportunities in a fast-paced environment.
The good thingsBusy Bees offers a supportive and inclusive work environment, with strong team collaboration and approachable leadership. I’ve enjoyed the opportunity to work with passionate professionals in early learning, as well as the exposure to large-scale processes that allow you to develop professionally. The company provides stability, learning opportunities, and a clear structure that helps you grow and understand the industry deeply.
The challengesSome processes can be slow, and workloads increase during peak recruitment periods.

Friendly and enjoyable place to educate.
The good thingsGrowing as a team and building our philosophy together. There's lot of support for people who want to join in and show enthusiasm. The families and children are wonderful and the energy at my service is uplifting

"Children First" (Provided that by 'Children', you mean 'Profit')
The good thingsSome of the people in the office are nice.
The challengesIt became clear very quickly that Busy Bees is focused on profit and nothing else. Questionable ethics and decisions from upper-management based solely on income and pressure from board members, under the guise of "putting children first". Zero accountability from upper management with a general consensus of "That's just how they are." I've experienced a number of workplaces throughout my career and this one has been one of the least professional I've worked in. No one says what they actually think, and that's likely because they'd be punished for it or deemed as problematic and managed out. They don't care about children, just acquiring as many centres as possible under their umbrella whilst failing to improve upon the ones they already have. They seem to have no issue with the fact that not only do their centres have a revolving door of staff, but their head office too. A prime example of why the childcare industry is broken.

Great mission and momentum, systems are still maturing
The good thingsI've enjoyed working with genuinely caring people and building a strong connection to the work happening in centres. I had the chance to contribute to high-impact work and build practical solutions that support teams across Australia where I otherwise wouldn't have had the opportunity in a similar role with another company. The pace is fast, and the intent is always to do more, better, and sooner.
The challengesThe main challenge: backend systems and data . While it’s not always visible to centre-based teams, it has a real impact at NSC and slows momentum when supporting colleagues doing the work on the floor. The foundations are improving, but there’s still work to do to so teams can move faster with confidence.

Fast-paced global organisation where you can add value - and children are at the heart ofall we do.
The good thingsThe pace is fast and the work is genuinely interesting. You’re part of a large, global organisation so there’s real scale, structure and backing behind what you’re doing. The people are friendly, high-energy and actually want to get things done. There’s a strong sense of momentum and collaboration, and effort is noticed.
The challengesIt’s not a slow environment. The pace and volume won’t suit everyone, and priorities can shift as the business grows and evolves. You need to be comfortable with change, ambiguity at times, and managing competing demands.

Apart from 1 or 2 bad eggs… there are some really amazing people that work for this organisation. Culture here isn’t the best, you get what you give essentially.
The good thingsSome really great people in head office.
The challengesPersonally, I didn’t like the jealousy others had towards fellow peers. Very tragic unfortunately. If you don’t fit the “criteria” / standard, you will have no hope!

A great culture driven by meaningful values for all children in early education

Busy Bees was a toxic, top down organisation where profit came before people, and unethical, unprofessional leadership destroyed morale, integrity, and any real focus on children or staff.
The good thingsLeaving! I appreciated the dedication of many team members at service level.
The challengesEmphasis on profit above all else at the expense of children and staff morale. Toxic environment, where dialogue, ethical decision making were dismissed. A workplace where integrity was compromised by a top-down culture by executives lacking professionalism and accountability.

The good thingsYour time is what you make it and so is your work environment. Over all the past was amazing and supportive with great management who understood the sector.. but now
The challengesHigher Management was not very supportive, didn’t want to listen to Service managers and were not there to support when it was needed. The blame game was always played and if you knew more then someone in a higher position then you, look out.

    A souless organisation.
The good thingsVery little. They have lost all of the staff that made Busy Bees good and have replaced all managers with people from out of sector with no experience in early childhood. They only want business focused people to drive occupancy and profit. There is no care factor and passion for early childhood.
The challengesBusy Bees as a higher organisation is completely disorganised. They cannot keep staff in their National Support Centre and are constantly cycling through people. You really are just a number to them. Service Managers are the middle people pulled in different directions with no support. Your opinions and feedback don't matter and aren't heard or valued. They only want 'yes' people. They have completely lost their vision and values. It is all about the money/ profit and the occupancy.

The good thingsI'm grateful for the workmates that turned into family. The tremendous amount of support that came from my workmates and management has made the toughest days bearable. Thank you very much, Miss Miranda and Miss Esther, for being such a dynamic duo and such wonderful, encouraging leaders. I'm incredibly grateful to everyone for their incredible kindness and the priceless memories we've created together. I'll forever remember the amazing children and families I have encountered.

I think Busy Bees is a really good place to work for Educators or Teachers. I felt really supported and it was generally a good environment and the pay and benefits were decent too.
The good thingsWorking at Busy Bees has been such a positive experience so far. The environment is super supportive and really focused on the kids. I was really warmly welcomed and the team here have been very supportive in helping me grow my skills and also add a bit my own spin to the way i do things.
The challengesThe company is still growing and developing so i had to be a bit patient on a few things/at first. They're really passionate though and i found the help did come once i understood more who to chat to and how to go about doing things.

Lack of compassion, no support in growth within the company, high management use verbal fear to manipulate staff and HR does nothing.

Understand the organisation and the position before you apply - the good, bad and the ugly
The good thingsWithin the Support Centre, work-life balance and flexibility options were/are very good. Quite a lot of ability to set your own goals and priorities and work towards them. There are some really great leaders within the Operations side of the business, who will guide and mentor staff that would like to excel.
The challengesWorking at Busy Bees can be a very different experience, depending on if you are based at a Service or based at the Support Centre. For educators, the constant staff shortages can be very stressful. The pay is slightly above minimum wage, so you have to be in the profession for the right reasons. Within NSC, the organisational culture is incredibly lacking - it feels stale and lifeless. There has been a lot of leadership churn and burn in the past 18 months which has felt unsettling. Without clear leadership and someone guiding the company and communicating about what's going on, it's hard to really know how the business is performing and what the future will be for people here.
