Working at Carers Queensland will destroy your mental health and self-worth.
The good thingsCarers Queensland pays very well... or so it seems. Is the pay worth the extreme toll on your mental health? Probably not...
The challengesNepotism is rife! Friends & family are promoted over qualified staff. Workload is crippling, 350+ caseload (not kidding). Reporting issues places a target on you. They hire for lived-exp but don't support those staff adequately. This is not a psychosocially safe workplace. Avoid at all costs!

The challengesStressful work environment due to the heavy workload; on average, one person quits every week; there is a lot of favoritism

If you want your confidence crushed and made to feel like you’re nothing, get a job here.
The good thingsWorking from home two days a week and not having to be in the office in amongst the toxicity was good. The salary is good but not worth the mental pain long term.
The challengesPromotions are all about who does the best sucking up, not who has the most knowledge for the role. Management are all about hierarchy and if you aren’t a direct line down, you barely get acknowledged. It’s like being back at kindergarten. Destroyed my confidence and I felt like I didn’t matter.

This job broke my heart and I haven't been able to return to the industry.
The good thingsBuilding connections with carers.
The challengesManagement is incredibly nasty. Company values specifically at your caring way weren't met eg respect. Think about why there are so many 5 star reviews after a legitimate negative review. Complaints made to HR are not adequately addressed. The Program Manager and LVSP are the biggest challenge. Im still trying to recover from burn out.

Started well with lots of fair opportunity for growth and development and left with promotion of people who are favoured rather than capable.
The good thingsPay and benefits FBT.
The challengesManagement. Hired CEO and GM and other senior leadership that have no interest in the LAC program. Has led a once great organisation doing meaningful work supporting people with disability to one in disarray with no respect for the work LACs do. LACs are overworked and under-resourced. People are being promoted without any selection process and this is impacting all levels of operation.

I have worked for Carers Qld for a number of years and have seen many changes within the company and the NDIS- i have developed my career and career pathways exponentially while working here and I will always be greatful for the support and opportunities I've had while working here
The good thingsI have never worked in such a supportive staff environment. All staff show each other great respect and always help out whenever needed
The challengesIt is a fast paced and the NDIS space is changing- but if you ask for help and work on self-improvement -management assist staff to work through it in a supportive way as best they can

Amazing place to work. Organisation really cares for their staff. Flexibility and support to all staff.
The good thingsFlexible work arrangements, ability to work from home. Organisation is very inclusive and employer of choice. Communication through recent organisation restructure was very helpful. Managers really care for their teams and support staff wellbeing.
The challengesI like everything about Carers Queensland.

The good thingsThe team that I work with is amazing. Great work place culture and a very rewarding role. Great opportunities for career advancement.
The challengesRecent legislative and system changes has made the role challenging due to how it has impacted those who live with disability.

Amazing workplace culture that values diversity and inclusion.
The good thingsWorking at Carers Queensland has been an amazing experience as a Local Area Coordinator for two years. They genuinely prioritize work-life balance, making it easy to manage both my professional and personal life. Flexible work options and understanding leadership make such a difference—they don’t just talk about balance; they live it. They also support you to grow and develop and explore opportunities within the company. The supportive culture here is incredible. Managers actually care about their teams, checking in regularly and offering help when it’s needed. The focus on well-being is real, with programs and resources that show they take mental health seriously. They have wellbeing rooms and mental health first aid officers to provide additional support. What I love most is how appreciated I feel. Achievements are celebrated (quarterly True Colours program), and there’s so much encouragement to grow through mentorship and development opportunities. It’s clear they value people, not just productivity. Managers walk their talk. Overall, it’s a workplace where you feel respected, supported, and able to thrive. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a company that truly cares about its employees.
The challengesChanges within the NDIS space but leadership has provided clear communication and guidance.

    Great Colleague's awful leadership.
    The good thingsColleagues. Location.
The challengesManagement only care about the numbers you can churn out. Unrealistic KPI's. Extraordinary amount of favouritism. If you are not one of the favourites forget any progression.More recently the treatment of long term staff has left many running for the hills.Good staff are burnt out picking up the slack from poor performing others. Management are more than happy to punish overwhelmed staff whilst not listening to their concerns.

Glad this ship is under new captaincy but would appreciate subsidised valium as part of my remuneration.
The good thingsUpdated review: Many changes in structure over the last 12 months so time for a new review. It's still a great place to work, but you'll need impeccable resilience to survive. Changes to the structure and positions has brought fresh excitement and zest to the job. New head honcho is a breath of fresh air and seems very transparent. Management invested considerable time to understand what was "wrong", finally, the mis-management that was steering this ship straight into an iceberg is being rectified. Some great people, great work. I think Carer's QLD is about to have a glow-up!
The challengesSometimes it feels like communication sucks, but it's usually a miscommunication that's easily resolved. Increased team building would be beneficial. It's fast paced. Really fast. Like, get sick and you'll come back and drown. 360 participants per LAC and climbing is absolutely ridiculous. Agency contact centre staff require more support to do their job properly as flow on effect causes poor statistics!

Management communication is not as efficient as it could be. Government reporting requirements and funding are not problematic but certainly challenging. Changes within NDIS
The good thingsMy experience has been positive and negative, opportunities for progression to a certain extend. " Who you know, not what you know". Flexibility, good salary, management sometimes listen to staff. Meeting people in and out of the office.
The challengesMore focus on the impact it has on the business, rather than clients and community. Staff workload has increased, no downtime, communication is not implemented throughout the office, a need-to-know basis. Explaining plans to participants and their families can be quite challenging. KPI's are not sustainable when people leave the organisation. Can feel a little micromanaged at times.

HR need to stop asking staff to write positive reviews and read some of the ones on here!

The challengesExtremely poor management/ lack of management, Favouritism/ targeting, hostile environment. Ever changing goals and expectations. Lack of care for vulnerable community members.

Why are there so many 5 star reviews after an honest review is written, note that they are all written same month after one is published, bit suss
The good thingsMeeting and helping the participants, although can be difficult to see the difficulties they face accessing supports
The challengesLack of reputable service providers or long waiting lists for the participants, so much paperwork now needed in order to get a plan. Management is focused on numbers and don't listen to feedback, no opportunity for career progression. Not sure what my career aspirations are at this stage.

Positive experience from the very beginning and continues to be so.
The good thingsAmazing company to work for. Great culture, plenty of opportunities to progress, learn and challenge yourself. Management is very supportive and has a person-centred approach not only for NDIS participants but for staff as well. It's fantastic working with participants and seeing their growth and achievements. Good leave entitlements and flexible work arrangements.
The challengesI don't see challenges as a negative. They are an opportunity to learn. Partnering with any government department has its moments.

    Difficult management, great staff
The good thingsOther staff members and building repour with clients.
The challengesI really struggled with management and I had an incredibly negative experience working here. I would come back if there were different people in charge. Negative culture and very target driven which doesnt translate well to the carers. No communication between teams and constant errors resulting in lots of back and forth with clients due to getting constant misinformation from higher ups. In my experience I found management to be untrustworthy and did not uphold company values.

My experience has been positive and full of growth, allowing me to build professional relationships, have a workload I am passionate about and seeing the fruits of my labour in client journeys and their feedback.
The good thingsFlexibility, good salary, management listens to staff, the people who work there care about their job and the impact it has on the business, clients and community. Internal job opportunities are advertised and people encouraged to apply. Staff are engaged with to discuss processes and policies. The business is transparent with their staff.

    Position with purpose.
The good thingsThe collective knowledge of the LAC approach across the site, and observing peers step up and take authorship and ownership of their roles. Engagement with participants and their feedback, along with educating the community through this journey, with change comes opportunity. Carers QLD values are key to acknowledgement and recognition for both staff and participants.
The challengesWith both system changes and requirement to meet NDIA expectations, developing and implementing processes to meet both performance and participant expectations, has seen the site adapt and deliver a proactive response to these changes, this includes both continuous learning and development.

Professional and positive workplace overall with some truly committed employees to the community sector.
The good thingsThe culture of Carers Queensland is truly the most positive in the not-for-profit sector that I have worked for. The organisation truly lives by its values and is committed to making a real difference in the lives of carers and people with a disability. There are some real opportunities for skills development and to have a taste of different roles through acting stints.
