Love hate. Love the kids, other things not so much
The good thingsThe children are great i built many connections even though it was challenging
The challengesI struggled to treat the children the way it was expected to. The children are doing chores to a very high standard constantly and it never is good enough when done which upsets them alot and i would struggle to treat them the way it was expected to, if you do it differently you will get in trouble. If you like to have control over the choices you make for the children’s wellbeing i would not recommend this role for you as you don’t have a choice unless you want to be yelled at infront of the children and you will be under stress when making any decisions to do good things for the children out of worry you will get in trouble. The program is set out to others to be a great program but behind doors it is hard, no child should be set to this high of expectations and constantly run down for it not being good enough. As an adult i would be overwhelmed with such a tight schedule and no down time.

The mission of Carinity is something I am proud to be part of.
The good thingsSenior management really are passionate about improving people’s quality of life. I have great colleagues. After returning from 2 years maternity leave, I have felt supported and have been given flexibility to fulfil the ‘higher duties’ of my family caring responsibilities.
The challengesThe industry faces plenty of challenges. Like any organisation, there is always room for improvement. Necessarily, there is a lot of change.

I would not recommend to work in this toxic environment.
    The good thingsWorking with youth.
The challengesNot being able to fulfill my role as an experienced Youth Worker due to Program Coordinator micromanaging. Program Coordinator not experienced in a managerial role and didn’t know how to lead a team.

Great job if you love to help people!
The good thingsAs a community carer - the management are truely passionate about what they do. I have worked for companies where you are just a number, however with Carinity everyone truely wants to be in the industry and THAT is the difference. Majority of the clients are great, issues are raised and dealt with promptly, messages are constantly sent out to staff communicating notices and thanking us for the work we do.
The challengesOnly negative I can think of is the technology is a little behind. The app used is slow and not much information available apart from the basics.

Toxic Workplace - Would not work here.
The good thingsLoved meeting the students and engaging with the young people.
The challengesThe terribly toxic culture and competition amongst the leadership team. I was micromanaged in a role I had years of experience in.

Due to a paternalistic lack of vision and low pay, the best people leave.
The good thingsNo micro-management No playground supervision Some flexibility in curriculum More opportunities to organise extra-curricular events and activities
The challengesCarinity do not pay enough, therefore fail to attract sufficient Aboriginal support staff or highly qualified leaders in this exceptionally challenging and extremely important space, yet the opportunity is enormous.

    A Seamless and Supportive Experience
The good thingsJoining Carinity has been a fantastic decision. The recruitment process was smooth & efficient, with friendly, open & compassionate people making every step inclusive & collaborative. Their commitment to the mission is clear, creating a supportive and welcoming culture. I'm truly happy to be here!
The challengesWhile some manual systems remain, they’ve created valuable opportunities for process improvement rather than being a drawback. It’s been great to see how these challenges drive innovation and efficiency, and I’m eager to be part of the journey with the team.

The hardest, most frustrating work involved for small coin and no rewards.
The good thingsVET team, teacher aids and being your own boss within the area.
The challengesHead office not listening, decisions from top, lack of management focused on site, poor direction from support group, no time within house support for planning or upskilling.

Found a position where I can both continue working in helping people and my love and desire to continue supporting my son with a disability and my elderly mother.
The good thingsThere are many different opportunities at Carinity. It is a good place if you have a heart to help others. Having a child with a disability I have found it very easy to manage my home responsibilities with my work life. My manager and senior manager are very supportive and understanding of my situation and I feel comfortable with them when I have to leave early or take time off due to family commitments.
The challengesThere are a lot of changes that are happening at Carinity. This sometimes can be a period of doubt and uncertainty. Like any organisation that deals in Human Services, laws and requirements are constantly changing and I think this makes it difficult for upper management to put policies and procedures in place as it's all constantly changing. I think that with a more forward thinking group of upper management, changes would be handled a lot differently hence improving the mindset of employees.

Amazing opportunity to work with disadvantaged youth and like minded teachers only to see a once great organisation fail its core mission under poor leadership and lack of true vision.
The good thingsWorking with students and seeing change. Most teaching staff are dedicated and there for students
The challengesManagement or lack of it in most cases. Very little vision or leadership from principle and CEO. Sad to see a great company change under new leadership and become expansion focused.

The challengesToxic workplace, poor attitude toward staff, low quality services, any issues raised by staff is not addressed. Watching clients struggle with poor organisation

Great being a Community Lifestyle Carer with Carinity
The good thingsExcellent job satisfaction from helping clients in the community to live the life they choose in their own home. Every day is different. Salary packaging means more in my pocket. Great team to work for with super support from Lifestyle Coordinator Have joined this fantastic team after 14 years in the industry, and the environment is so positive
The challengesWe do this work for the love of it, not the money. Salary packaging with this not for profit is a great plus

Most awful management I have ever worked for.
The good thingsOn the rare occasion you will be restored with other care staff who are passionate about providing appropriate care to the residents and who are willing to assist you in any way possible.
The challengesIncredibly rude and poor management who make you feel minor and insignificant. Very low salary (however, grateful to have made an income) and absolutely pathetic communication between management/staff/employees. Carinity is the reason I will never let a member of my family go into care.

Fortunately I work with a team who support each other & work around difficult situations. We respect each other which makes your job that little bit less stressful.
The good thingsFlexibility, good environment, work with a good team
The challengesHours have been reduced therefore have stress & pressure to meet daily tasks. On various occasions given urgent requests which ends up working in your own time without pay. Upper management will not replace staff if another staff member is off for one day even with prior notice.
