Strong dedication to curing children’s cancer and excellent training program, but working environment and conditions need significant improvement to reduce turnover rate.
The good things- Strong devotion to curing childhood cancer, makes work rewarding - Significant investment in research infrastructure (ie. MCCCC) - Comprehensive training program for skills development
The challenges- Nepotism, Favouritism and perfectionist tendencies noted in some teams, which means you barely get positive remarks about your work. Can be demoralising - Low pay and compensation especially for overtime work - Lack of clear career progression pathway, especially for non-PhD staff members - Poor/distant relationships between coworkers common across teams - Research leaders very distant from research support and operations staff - High turnover rate compared to industry standards - Frequent weekend and company shutdown period work compared to other MRIs

Good culture when working there but be prepared to be treated badly before getting hired
The good thingsThe culture is great when you are actually working there. Everybody is nice and supportive, and the higher up does listen to employees' concerns or feedback. When most employees voted for flexible working during COVID, they implemented the FlexBest program immediately.
The challengesDespite the good internal culture, they do not respect prospective candidates. I got an interview soon after I applied to an open position and my referees gave positive references, but then I was ghosted. I did manage to work there though because I was a fit for an unadvertised position.

    Great people, projects, and vision.
The good thingsLots of support and a great environment as a bioinformatician.
The challengesThere is not a lot of interaction with research groups outside of your own at the institute.
