What’s it like working at City of Armadale?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Employees appreciate the flexible working arrangements at City of Armadale, including 9-day fortnights and work-from-home options. Colleagues are friendly and supportive, with many living locally and caring about the community they serve. The work is meaningful, offering opportunities to have a real impact on the local community and be involved in projects that shape the City's future. There are also opportunities for learning and development, with the chance to take on new challenges across different areas of the organisation. Additionally, pay and benefits are excellent.

However, there are some potential challenges, such as leadership and management being top-down, with decision-making concentrated among senior managers and limited CEO visibility. As a growing organisation managing change, the culture can sometimes feel resistant to new ideas, with internal promotion potentially contributing to this. Communication and collaboration between departments could be strengthened, and the pace of decision-making can be slower due to council processes and approval requirements.

A values-led local government with meaningful work, good people and real opportunities to improve .
The good thingsThe City of Armadale is a great place to work if you want your role to have a real impact on the local community. There is a strong focus on improving how we work, supporting growth and learning, and creating a culture where people care about the work they do. The organisation has good people, meaningful work, and plenty of opportunities to be involved in projects that shape the future of the City. I have also found there are opportunities to learn, take on new challenges and work across different areas of the organisation.
The challengesAs a growing organisation, the City is managing change while continuing to deliver important services to the community. This can sometimes create busy periods and competing priorities, but it also brings opportunities to improve processes, strengthen communication and keep building a workplace that is connected, responsive and future-focused.

A good job for a steady income, but you're not going to change the world here.
The good thingsOfficers are friendly and welcoming, as they strive to do the best they can within their individual roles. Many staff live locally, so they care about what is happening in the community they serve. There is a strong social club, and management does a good Christmas party but the break rooms are quiet and people don't talk while they eat. The facilities are dated but nice.
The challengesManagement promotion occurs from within, which leads to a stagnant culture and a refusal to even examine new ideas. Management culture is also very top down with everything needing to be approved by a handful of senior managers. CEO is almost invisible. WFH is common (with up to 3/5ths of a pay cycle out of office) and it feels like people take it just to be away from their manager.

Toxic environment, staff leaving en-masse but WFH and RDO available
The good things9 day fortnights are available as is working from home
The challengesLeadership is terrible. Very negative culture has become engrained. The latest EBA has set a very low paying council to the end of the metro pack.
