Great organisation to work for, with focus on employee wellbeing and making a meaningful impact.
The good thingsAmazing place to work with flexible working arrangements, a friendly team, and a really positive culture. Good work-life balance, fair hours, and competitive pay.
The challengesDue to the size of the organisation, career progression opportunities may be more limited, though this is balanced by a supportive and close-knit environment.

If you have a positive attitude and good work ethic you will be rewarded with ongoing support, career development opportunities and a great work/life balance. Highly recommend a career with Coal Services and more specifically the regulation and compliance division (Mine Safety Technical Services, Mine Safety Occupational Hygiene and Mines Rescue)
The good thingsWithin the regulation and compliance division: - Career Development opportunities are always available if you are driven and show an active interest in bettering the company. - A lot of support from management in your immediate business unit - Flexibility with working arrangements, no micromanagement of work.
The challengesLike all businesses, it can take longer than expected/promised for change to take effect. Other departments appear to be 'clicky' and not always willing to help - can hinder production as such.

    Terrible
The good thingsThe general staff members of the business are amazing. They make my role rewarding and fulfilling
The challengesManagement and HR do not care about their employees. One thing to remember is that while you may get along with the rest of the business, your team is a detriment to you.

A diverse company with lots of opportunities that does great things.
The good thingsA great company with an honourable purpose. Great culture and management that genuinely cares for its employees. Benefits that out rate other organisations.
The challengesPeople not understanding the importance of the coal industry to the local community and NSW economy. Sometimes needing to deal with uneducated views and opinions from friends and family. We look after people and do a great job of it! It is sometimes not easy but well worth the effort.

Grateful and proud to work for Coal Services
The good thingsA company with a clear and meaningful purpose ‘To Protect’ which is especially visible and meaningful when visiting our regions; a supportive environment, working with great people who help each other, various development opportunities as well as reward and recognition, fantastic working conditions, incl. 5 weeks leave, flexibility; continuously improving in the best way through a variety of projects and opportunities to get involved.
The challengesYou need to be an individual who understands that continuous improvement is required to keep evolving as a company to meet customer and future requirements.

do your self a favour a look elsewhere
The good thingsNot many good things front line staff are fantastic but Mangers and up are only interested in self presevation
The challengesA company that is still stuck in the 80's will not change, leadership team has no direction

1 star was generous - would have ZERO if this was an option. An extremely high distrust of leaders at the highest management level of the company. An organisation that is best avoided for so many bad reasons this space cannot accommodate
The good thingsGood lower level operating staff with good work ethics at the regional sites of Coal Mines Insurance.
The challengesCoal Mines Insurance staff at the operating level face an uphill continuous struggle to trust senior management due to their blame-culture and military-management style. CMI senior management including the Coal Services yop senior management team have their self-interest and preservation as the top priority.

Toxic and stressful. Would give 0 stars if i could. 5 star reviews here are obviously left by management or for the wrong company.
The good thingsReasonable salary. 5 weeks of leave a year.
The challengesToxic workplace culture, starting right at the top. Outdated processes and an expectation of long work hours well beyond the EA. Limited WFH flexibility for claims teams because management doesnt trust them to do the job at home. The leaders actively ignore both reality and bad news. Hard workers get taken advantage of.

it’s a no-win situation. senior leaders such as the GMs are controlling and untrusting. they publicly support something, actually taking no action.
The good thingsmy claims lead and other co-workers.
The challengesline management not empowered to do anything except say 'no' to their employees, customers and other parts of the business.

Easily the best employer I have been involved with in my career
The good thingsFlexible work arrangements, exceptional training facilities, regular performance review and development, fairness of appraisal and opportunities for career development/progression.
The challengesCulture initiatives and new recruits to key roles over the last couple of years have allowed the company to remain an employer of choice within the mining industry.

A business committed to making a difference in both workplace and workforce health and safety, employees who are seeking to be apart of a worthwhile cause and thrive on positive culture will make a great addition to this organisation.
The good thingsThere is a huge culture shift at Coal Services, they highly value input from all levels of the organisation into making a positive and productive work environment. You are valued as a person not just another number.
The challengesTransitioning from traditional business processes and aligning all business units to seek growth mindsets. Although this is in process.

CS is probably one of the interesting company I ever worked for. Their unique culture are very challenging and it's mentally draining. Turnover rate is almost 100% in our team. I believe I made the right choice of leaving. I wouldn't recommend anyone to join.
The good thingsFlexible working hours, five weeks annual leave and 3% salary increases every year
The challengesMicro management style, poor communication and have the tenancy of pointing fingers and playing the blaming games when under pressure.

Great team and interesting role for those with a thirst for knowledge and a challenge.
The good thingsGreat team, strong knowledge capabilities, excellent work from home and flexible hours to juggle family commitments.
The challengesThere's some work to be done with processes and work bottlenecks but positive change is underway and once this is fixed it is a nice place to work. Some modernisation is required.

    Don't do it.
The good thingsVery flexible, family friendly environment. Some very nice staff who are unappreciated.
The challengesCase Managers treating Claims Officers like they are completely beneath them. Upper management refuses to address why there is such a high turnover of staff in the role. Feedback falls on deaf ears. Low pay for the work you do.

A fun and supportive crew that will help you through the challenges
The good thingsFriendly environment with flexible working options and a lot of support. There are monthly recognition programs with rewards for staff. Teams are also allowed to organise morning teas and celebrations.
The challengesOpen plan working space, so having to adapt and tolerate loud and strong personalities. The management/workflow is undergoing some changes as there is a backlog of administration work, so things can seem a little unorganised and some procedures could probably be done more efficiently.
