NOT worth the pay for the intense training and then no training once in the job. DO NOT DO THIS JOB.
The good thingsCourts are great, very low pay, but very relaxed.
The challengesThey are not transparent about the roster, its seven days in a row, 9 days fortnight. Also there are many rosters, some are 3 to 4 weekends in a row. They do not tell you this in the interview. The pay is the base. You would have to work a lot of overtime to get over$63000, up to 88000 is for seniors. This is not explained and is not transparent through the process. The working enovironment is very hostile.

If you're considering any role Provisional/Intern or Team Lead - do yourself a favour and run in the opposite direction.
The good thingsSome how they manage to employ some really fabulous, supportive clinicians for the team. But they are few and far between and don't stay long.
The challengesFIS Barwon Region is a nightmare. From a toxic culture, incompetent management, to unethical practices, it’s an environment that fosters burnout and disillusionment at every level. If you value your mental health, your professional integrity, and your career, stay far away.

If you want to make a difference in people's lives and help those incarcerated, pick any other job but this one or prepare to have your hopes and dreams shattered
The good thingsThe overtime, the opportunities, really good annual leave for work life balance
The challengesManagement, lack of support, one of those jobs that says "we're one big family" but once you're in you realise it's one big dysfunctional family.

A workplace with great but challenging learning experiences however provides multiple opportunities to succeed in your career and great people to work with.
The good thingsOver the past 4 years working with Hopkins CC, I have been given multiple opportunities to support my career development and build on my skills. I have been lucky enough to work alongside positive and passionate staff that have provided a collaborative and professional work environment. The pay and benefits you receive are very rewarding!
The challengesShift work can be quite difficult at first, but once you have adjusted your daily cycle, it feels easy and provides a flexible arrangement for families or yourself. The workplace provides a steep learning curve, however, the staff around you always lend a hand when required.

The work was rewarding and enjoyable but was ruined by toxic management and office politics.
The good thingsSome amazing, caring and motivated staff. Very rewarding work.
The challengesPoor management culture. Toxic work environment - high caseloads and KPI's, limited support, huge stress, and a broken system.

Love the job, hate the people that I worked with.
The good thingsThe job it’s self was an amazing experience and has taught me so much. I’ve been able to use the skills I learnt at uni and enjoyed doing the assessments.
The challengesEverything is a challenge. If you live your work and do well, I’m sure the managers will find something to pick on.

Pay good, but terrible work environment
The good thingsGood salary and benefits
The challengesPoor organisational culture-worked to the bone, no appreciation or empathy from management, high case loads, huge stress, career progression being blocked when understaffed. Really needs independent investigation

Would have loved to make it work, but too many structural barriers and lack of support that lead to burn out. May be good if you are starting out.
The good thingsGood team, opportunity to learn
The challengesChanging environment, no place to even have your own desk, really bad and long winded training, very busy managers who dont have the time to support you, rigid and non therapeutic atmosphere that focuses more on forensic risk management

A great place to work at with a learning environment
The good thingsThe work in accommodation units as well as other areas of the prison is diverse & Covers a wide scope of activities which keeps one on their toes
The challengesSome prisoners as well as colleagues can be challenging to work with. However this said, officers are provided with training to effectively manage this behaviour with the least amount of conflict.
