The role lacked structure, support, and consistent leadership practices.
The good thingsThe opportunity provided clarify on what I value in a workplace. The experience helped me identify another type of management style and culture.
The challengesThere was a lack of clear direction and role structure, with limited access to the resources required to perform duties effectively. Management capability varied across the organisation, and some leaders appeared to have limited experience in people management or in leading by example. Significant gaps were evident in training, processes, and onboarding, which made it challenging to clearly understand expectations and carry out responsibilities efficiently. In this environment, employees with less experience or those requiring additional guidance may have found the role particularly challenging due to the limited level of support available. Workplace professionalism was an ongoing concern, with frequent use of inappropriate language observed among both the staff and management team.

Avoid. Toxic work environment. It’s all about politics, blame and unlimited work hours.
The good thingsInteresting machinery and processes. Engineers and trade staff deserve medals; they’re mostly all champion people.
The challengesA massive improvement in work culture from top down is needed before this workplace could possibly improve. This is the most toxic workplace I’ve ever experienced. I had 5 different bosses in 7 months. Obvious long term problems are left to fester whilst minor issues become highly political. Middle management are told what to do by people who are not experienced or knowledgeable. Expect consultant-run Americanised brain storming sessions speaking word salad instead of proper RCA initiatives. There is no delegation of responsibility for results, only tasks determined by Pareto charts. There’s a lengthy list of new, unobtainable tasks issued every day. There are so many meetings there’s no time to do any work. I saw several people suffering mental health issues. Work life balance is advertised but does not exist. Expect 60 hour week not including being on call nights/weekends to cover the many obvious plant problems that never get fixed due to the heavy focus on politics and blame.

Good for Your Resume, But That’s About It
The good thingsThis might be a good company to have on your resume because of its size and name recognition — but don’t expect much beyond that.
The challengesToxic Culture, No Support, and Poor Work-Life Balance If you're considering this company because of its size or reputation, think twice. The work environment is highly toxic — there's no real support from management, just high expectations with zero training or proper handover. You're thrown into the deep end, overloaded with tasks, and expected to figure it all out on your own. Management shows little to no care about employees' well-being. It's all about output, no matter the cost. The company culture is cold and impersonal, unlike anything I’ve experienced in my career. If you're someone who values a healthy work-life balance, this is not the place for you. It's not worth your mental or emotional health.

Very poor management concern for employee's state of mind; would not have considered the role if I had prior knowledge of the problems within.
The good thingsThe relationships and co-operation afforded by other team members.
The challengesLack of leadership, constant out of stocks, lack of co-operation within CSR outside immediate team, lack of cohesion between departments e.g. Customer Service, Inventory, Demand Planning, Transport. Lack of management concern - constantly told they were working on the issues, but nothing changed.

    Just don't do it
The good thingsCant say there was much i enjoyed but i will say, the job itself isn't bad
The challengesA lot of favoritism, inability for certain people to succeed. No movement at all. management don't care about their workers. Mismanaged safety and injury documentation. Lack of empathy for those who suffer from mental health issues or other personal issues.

It is an exceptional place to work & complete a long-term career.
The good thingsI am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have worked at CSR. The work environment is second to none, with a culture of collaboration and mutual respect. The QLD management team works together towards common goals, creating a cohesive and productive atmosphere.I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a rewarding and enriching career experience.
The challengesTechnology adaptation, CSR is slowly updating all technology to first-class systems but it's a process.

If you have ambition or a goal in mind, don't work here.
The good things- Job security since the company is over 165 years old - good exposure to construction manufacturing, knowledge on how materials all add up to build a house/building
The challenges- little to no career progression, you have to force it - salary is below industry standard - limited hybrid work flexibility (Mandatory 3 days in the office per week, if you can't make it in one of those days you have to make up a day. Moreover, if you got school drop offs and pick-ups, you have to make up time for those as well.) - terrible communication across business units - teams are being micromanaged which is totally ridiculous.....

Glad I resigned, I (and a few others) made a stand not to work for a company who does not deliver on promises. Better companies to work for out there.
The good thingsOther sales guys are great to work with, my own team is OK.
The challengesNone or reduced bonuses, big promises, little return.

Was once a great company .. not anymore
The good thingsHead office is well maintained and bright, 12% super, own company union
The challengesLack of leadership, low pay (new employees being paid more) micromanagement, culture is extremely poor and not getting better, too many promises of cost savings in transformation and logistics yet spend is almost double, high turnover of staff, most new staff are from MD's ex company, way too many processes have been put in place, lack of trust in existing and long standing members of staff. Now with a company who values its staff, encourages a better and genuine work/life balance, is transparent about costs rather than covering up issues and HAS a recruitment process that is fair (right person for the job rather than jobs for ex-colleagues mates).

While a lot of big large corporate have great incentives schemes and reward their employees and recognise their employees as this company once did all of that has now been removed. So while you may believe that working for a large corporate brings career progression incentives and Rewards that may not always be the case. Ultimately this is a company ultimate goal being to deliver to its shareholders requiring the maximum amount of cost cutting in every area below senior management
The good thingsI've worked for the company 12 years now prior to the current leadership team the company was run well with grading send tips and an excellent working culture. The good things that make this company enjoyable to work at other people that I work with and when I refer to the people generally speaking that is anyone below senior management level
The challengesBeing a corporate company over the years everything has become so process driven with so many things and processes requiring approval from someone above that historically was not required. There are so many processes that are not necessary such simple tasks that add so much time to get things done. There are so many unnecessary roles that have been created in the company that add to the challenges of getting work done. Most people are unable to work autonomously with a lot of micromanagement

Long term employer with great career opportunities
The good thingsCSR is a good company to work for - the majority of people are friendly and approachable. Many of them have been with the business several years and some have had great career journeys with the company. There are good benefits including higher superannuation, development programs, regular salary reviews, etc...
The challengesIt is a large company and some processes can be lengthy and slow, but it is not unusual in bigger organisations.
