Archaic, Unstable & Chaotic Place To Be
The good thingsMy teammates, fantastic, fun people!
The challengesI must agree with the previous reviews written. People leave due to bad management, wrong people in senior leadership, system issues never ending, inefficient, disorganised, full of surprises every week you never know what role you will get yourself into, the next thing you know your hours changed, there is poor communication, division, unclear roles & expectations, low wage, they simply do not care about employees, save yourself the mental dilemma, the turn over rate every July read the reviews they all true.

If you are willing to sacrifice your mental health for free health care then this is the place.
The good thingsFree health care is a bonus Connecting to members, I've had some lovely conversations with members and they are always understanding. Found some life long friendships
The challengesThe job is mentally draining. The system doesn't work and no evidence of improvement No connection to Defence community. No support for ex serving employees. It can be quite cliquey Jobs without boarders meaning you will be spread thin and will have extra work added on no notice

My time here was fine but not memorable and didn't take my career in the direction I was hoping.
The good thingsThe people are some of the best people you'll ever meet! I found the initial training to be excellent; I entered knowing almost nothing about the healthcare industry and within 3 months I felt like a bit of an expert. FREE premium private health insurance with the company.
The challengesPeople leave managers, not jobs, and that's especially true here. Micromanagement occurs constantly; your laptop has software which records your screen and the KPIs are set just high enough that to realistically achieve them you'd need to seriously grind every single day away.

there are better places to work
The good thingsNice people and the office location is nice. Work from home available
The challengesThey lack clarity on their processes plus there is lot of resistance to change. They don't like truth. Good for people who can just put their blinkers on.

No opportunity for growth, gaslighting to the max
The good thingsThe people, the people I worked with were and are amazing
The challengesThe management simply put, they have the wrong people in senior positions and do not listen to the people who are actually doing everyone's jobs

Built some amazing relationships that I will treasure for a life time but was way overworked and undercompensated for it.
The good thingsEveryone at Defence Health say the best thing about working there are the people, most people are caring and supportive and there are a number of programs to help foster good working relationships.
The challengesThe pay is relatively average, but that might be because it's not for profit. They also under resource most positions creating a highly stressful environment at times.

Defence Health is a supportive and friendly organisation
The good thingsDefence Health is an inclusive and friendly place to work! There are many career opportunities in the business - both corporate and call centre departments. Management and employees are fantastic. This is a very values-led organisation and I will be staying here for a while!

    Great experience, met wonderful people.
The good thingsWonderful working environment. Inclusive, caring, room to grow.
The challengesHigh volume calls can be difficult, you can feel overwhelmed at times. This is a NFP company, so the pay is not great.

Welcome to Defence Health... you'll have a blast!
The good thingsI worked at Defence Health for 3 and a half years and enjoyed my experience here. The entire team of people are amazing work and the culture allows for professional growth and personal development. The leadership of Defence Health consistently demonstrate a caring approach to clients and staff members which intern helps staff members to develop empathy when dealing with clients. I couldn't recommend working here more.
The challengesHaving to make difficult decisions when dealing with clients as each of them have their own have their special set of circumstances with regards to their health although I was fully supported by my team leaders.

    Friendly and supportive workplace
The good thingsThe workplace is fantastic. Staff are friendly and welcoming. The focus is truly on the member experience. Generous benefits for permanent staff.
The challengesComplex industry, but very encouraged to learn and develop. Staff shortages lead to additional pressure on staff in peak times.

    Wouldn’t recommend due to micro-management.
The good thingsWorking from home Joe was very friendly and a great sales trainer.
The challengesMicro-managing and logged into a system to know your every whereabouts. Not very flexible/family friendly... the training was focused on the customer service with only a few days of sales training. The training was painful from home due to not including the group in group activities and also it was very module and company values focused rather on the employee. I felt value out of the sales training only not the customer service training. It seems they want to hold their high standards of awards over employee recognition. Didn’t look after contract staff.

Best culture in a non profit organization, highly recommend!
The good thingsAmazing culture, great management and coaching. Career opportunities if you work hard you get rewarded.
The challengesBeing a smaller non profit organization it's expected there will be challenges around capacity, and I would rather this than work for a large for profit with a bad culture any day! Plus the recognition of your hard work is always felt.

If you're looking for an organisation with great people and a friendly, inclusive and supportive culture ... this is a great place to work.
The good thingsWhat I love about Defence Health in comparison to other organisations is that it's genuinely people and member focused, and this starts at the top with the CEO. Gerard cares about people and makes an effort to engage with everyone as a valued employee at Defence Health. Defence Health have has enabled me to balance work and life demands, through a range of flexible working options including remote work opportunities.
The challengesDefence Health is a small organisation and while it genuinely cares about it's people and their development (I've learnt so much!), there isn't as many career opportunities compared to larger organisations.

    supporting the systems
The good thingsFriday drinks are there but only few will attend.
The challengesSenior management did not have enough experience and no knowledge about peer management. They keep telling you that it is a family company but not really. They can be rude to you if they want and do not show any care or understand your family circumstances. No work life balance at all.

    Toxic environment to work in
The good thingsMost of the staff below manager level are good to work with. Some good perks like free health insurance.
The challengesThe company is going through a lot of change and not all at once. It's been dragging on for over a year now and there's more pain to come. Lots of redundancies and restructures. Sometimes multiple restructures of the same department. It's very disruptive and toxic. A lot of good talent has been lost. They just accept this as the cost of change which is a shame. Not the company they used to be. All about $$$ now.

    Good workplace with supportive management
The good thingsIt was a good place to work. I enjoyed my time there and only moved on due to moving states. Management were really supportive and had a clear vision of where they wanted the company to go.
The challengesSome of the systems they used were legacy and outdated but that's fairly common in a company this size. It wasn't a big deal for me.

Very enjoyable workplace as a whole, would gladly work here for many years to come.
The good thingsThe people and culture are outstanding would proudly recommend anyone to work here. There are great opportunities for career development and a lot of focus on internal promotions.
The challengesUntil recently seemed to be stuck in old ways, the company is now more focused on future planing. Mixed messaging between departments.

If you need flexibility this is a good organisation, but if you want a career give it a miss. Business is very outdated and unresponsive to the market.
The good thingsThe office has a good location. Flexible work arrangements for parents.
The challengesLacking executive leadership. Certain teams have very confused and poorly skilled leaders who require propping up my middle management. Executive leaders do not seem to have the capability to drive the business through government and industry reforms with very limited understanding of product, who their market, what their function in the business is etc. Business is very process heavy and not agile.

I would happily recommend this company to anyone.
The good thingsI love working here. Supportive team, company lives it values and is truly there to support members. Provided with plenty of opportunities to develop. Great benefits and flexibility offered.
The challengesThere is a lot of pressure on health insurance at the moment and this requires staff to be adaptable to changes

Give this place a miss! They say they have values, but dont see them!
The good thingsGood remuneration and great team to work with CEO is an inspirational leader.
The challengesUnless your one of the \"favorites\" with management, give it a miss, you will be constantly overlooked for opportunities to grow your skills and abilities within the organisation

Give it a miss, not worth working there until they understand the business they are in
The good thingsThe office location is great. People work hard and are committed to good outcomes but do not necessarily know what they are working hard for.
The challengesIncompetent management, archaic processes, as a business attempting to do too many things at once without prioritising. Not understanding the market drivers and who their customer is.

The good thingsGreat culture and team vibe Customer service is priority. Good location.
The challengesIn my role some of the work was a bit boring. A lot of the IT stuff is outsourced to msp. Business has some small company processes and habits which need to be improved upon.

A warm, hard working culture who genuinely value their members.
The good thingsA great culture with a strong sense of purpose to supporting current and former serving Defence Force members and their families. Staff will bend over backwards to help where they can.
The challengesIts a competitive industry, restricted funds like Defence Health have an important role in ensuring the playing field is level. The CEO was a role model in this regard.
