Great workplace & hospital network, recommend working for Eastern Health.
The good thingsGreat work environment with good relationships within the multidisciplinary team who were all dedicated to their work and getting best outcome for patients. Social work management and leadership are very supportive and approachable and gave you opportunities to grow in skills and to be involved in projects. Very clear scope of role, systems for escalation, support was always available and there was good CPD provided along with room to grow in your career. As a large hospital network there are opportunities to work across multiple sites and departments. Great workplace benefits, great salary and super. Recommend working for Eastern Health and I only left due to moving.
The challengesThe normal challenges that face the public healthcare system- lack of funding, short staff and resources, occasional aggressive patients/families creates challenges in the day to day role but develops one's innovative skills. Some sites have poor parking however good access to public transport or nearby street parking.

A previously great workplace has sadly deteriorated significantly leading to loss of great staff.
The good thingsColleagues within the unit were wonderful; supportive & fun to work alongside.
The challengesHigher management were clicky. Positions were not given on merit but to who was “liked” which made career progression unfair & basically impossible if you weren’t part of the click. Different rules for different people.

A previously fantastic organisation which became fractured, corporate and poorly run.
The good thingsSome people, and way it "was" run.
The challengesCommunication between all levels and laterally. Too many departments run independently as if only dept in organisation.

One of the worst experiences I've ever had with an employer.
The good thingsColleagues, peers, ward staff. Salary sacrifice
The challengesMiddle management are opaque! Their management style is punitive and belongs back in the 80's. micro managers, then macro managers, then want things done last minute. Extremely poor communicators. No one knows what's going on from one group to the next even in the same department! VERY slow to get outcomes and change things. the party line is "Thats just what happens at Eastern Health". Toxic environment. Cultural unsafe. Would NOT recommend working there.

Overall I worked here for a very long time, it was close to home, coworkers were wonderful. In the beginning before it became Eastern Health you felt valued and part of a team. Afterwards felt the opposite!
The good thingsMy co workers were fantastic and have made life long friends.
The challengesNo support from managers and “ the power’s that be”. In some work areas definitely a division between clerical and nursing staff. ( inequality)

Great team enviroment, and great job
The good thingsGreat Team environment in the officer. We all get on really well, and have some great chats.
The challengesAll jobs have their challenges, but they come with the job. As a company Covid-19 and the work shortages that have come with it put preasure on the company and the people working here.

The good thingsThe team are very welcoming and supportive, I would definitely recommend working here.
The challengesCOVID-19 has caused a lot of staff to be overworked which is challenging however the front line workers and clinical staff are very resilient and should be proud of themselves.

Great colleagues, nice hospital, terrible management
The good thingsADO's were great, colleagues were good
The challengesIf you see jobs for a position consistently needing to be advertised, there is a reason. Numerous people leave and new people come in, who in turn leave. You would think that it would point to an obvious reason (management) but instead gets brushed off and no action is taken. Upper management are vaguely aware of the issue, but seem to not care. I wish upper management cared more about the 'lower ranked' employees

Would never work for them again, nor work for them if I knew
The good thingsOnly treating patients and working with the immediate people within the team
The challengesThe whole entire hospital management and their lack of retaining staff for obvious reasons. No support when required. No obvious experience for management staff. No values upholding (including patient care)

A toxic environment wouldn't retain good staff. Reason nurses stick around is because of personal circumstances only.

Great people, but management not so much
The good thingsGreat teams, autonomy in role, salary packaging
The challengesToo many levels of higher management not really in touch with the roles or what hard work the staff do on the ground, face to face with their clients. Values don't always translate into real life!

The good thingsClose to home, nice working colleagues except for the ever changing management
The challengesdealing with the changing nature of public hospitals-from being a friendly , caring , homely type of environment to a very much cooperate type facility

My experience was poor. I was not supported by my director which made driving efficiency and positive culture shifts very difficult if not redundant.
The good thingsThere are definitely professional, competent members of Eastern Health. I just happened to work in a department that is stale, toxic, lacking in positive leadership.
The challengesEmbedded toxic culture Lacking in professional people management capabilities

The good thingsYou are entitled to an ADO every second pay period (every 4 weeks).
The challengesVery little scope for advancement. The executive and management talk about overwhelming workload and how to cope but they mean for themselves not those who support them.
