Don't work for EBGames if you want open communication from higher ups as they don't care about you.
The good thingsThe work itself was repairing and refurbishing consoles and controllers and was extremely enjoyable. I was very good at it and maintained my KPI's even as I was still learning.
The challengesCommunication between staff if there is issues as I was told I was not a good fit for the team and they refused to give more information. They only care about their own friends. It's a big club of people who know each other and if you aren't one of them they don't like you and will get rid of you after using you.

A cool place to work if you're prepared to sacrifice certain things
The good thingsYour colleagues and the people that work alongside you are amazing. The opportunity to work in gaming and pop culture is good fun. There are a load of fun brands to work with and campaigns to be a part of. It is fast paced and enjoyable.
The challengesThe culture is not geared towards growth or learning and you're instructed to stay in your lane. Senior Management are disengaged and disinterested in staff engagement. If you're on the outside, you're out and will never get in. EB Games are also very inflexible with pretty much everything, whether you're suggesting a change, trying to be innovative or asking for understanding that comes with the challenges of family life that sometimes arrive.

    Picking and Packing Role

It’s like a game of who’s the fastest pick packer except everyone is on the same team helping
The good thingsI enjoyed packing items either it be on the belt or usually the trolly. The team is a lot very welcoming and friendly, everyone is willing to help.
The challengesIt is very repetitive and fast paced so sometimes trying to pick and pack organised may be a little difficult.

eh... if you want to be picked on by higher ups... thats your place to be at...
The good thingsThe friendships that were made there and the environment that was carried through was alright
The challengesManagement was definitely mentally draining... I was constantly being singled out and was picked on and targeted by managers for no reason...

Great People and Memorable Events, But Undervalued Effort and Limited Growth
The good thingsFor the most part, the people you work with are genuinely lovely and customers were generally better than what you would get in other retail stores. Days went by quickly, and having the ability to plan and execute midnight launches was a fantastic experience.
The challengesWorked full-time hours as a casual, planning events & launches to support overwhelmed managers doing excessive hours. Pay was below industry standard. Unpaid overtime was expected under the “family” culture, with no compensation. Growth was limited, and suggestions for improvement were dismissed.

If you decide to work at EB Games, you will need to find your own way to navigate your progression. The pay is low and there is little to no employee benefits. You get a 20% games and merch and a 2% - 5% off vouchers through their employee benefits program when you spend $100+ at selected retailers. Management do what they are told and don't look for opportunities to better the business. The people you work with are nice however, are often disgruntled or are fine with being paid less.
The good thingsThe people that you work with are great for the most part. If you work in the head office, there are a lot of really great and friendly people there. Stores are also filled with some great people however, I also had some unpleasent people that I had to work alongside.
The challengesThe challenge this company faces in the current market is its low salary. They advise that their rates are competitive for their company size however, many other retailers and office jobs will pay higher with their entry roles than a senior role at EB Games. Management holds old and out dated management styles often asking you to provide unpaid work under the guise of 'reasonable overtime'. When challenged on this they will often fall back to their family ethos but will refuse to pay any compensation. There is very little room for growth and the idea of 'do what you need to do to make this work, nothing more' is fostered throughout most departments. When liasing with other departments on how improvements can be made, these suggestions and ideas are often shut down from management for unknown or unusual reasons. Office politics are rampart throughout all departments. This was demotivating and fostered a negative attitude amongst staff of all levels. Social cliques are present and can result is both positive and negative experiences. It's not what you know at EB Games that will lead to your success, but who you know and who likes you. Most staff will work under the retail assistance award regardless if they work in IT or Marketing. There are different levels to this award and you must agree to sign your rights to the correct pay for your job title away to begin work.

While having EB Games on your resume is valuable in the short term, remaining there too long may hinder long-term career progression.
The good thingsDuring my time at EB Games, I had the privilege of forming lasting friendships with some incredibly talented and dedicated colleagues. Although many of them eventually left for better opportunities that offered more competitive pay, work-from-home flexibility, and a healthier work-life balance, their support and camaraderie were the highlights of my experience.
The challengesOne of the most significant challenges at EB Games was the high turnover rate, which was not adequately addressed by management. As more employees left, the workload was consolidated and redistributed among remaining staff without any clear plans for expansion. Opportunities for personal development and career progression were limited and often appeared reserved for those willing to take on more work with fewer resources. Additionally, the company continues to rely on outdated and questionable systems. Despite having knowledgeable staff whose role is to understand the products and hardware, management frequently disregards their expertise. Instead of leveraging this insight to improve efficiency and performance, leadership tends to stick to their own views and processes, often at the expense of both time and money. This disconnect has contributed to an environment where progress is stifled and valuable resources are underutilized.

High hopes, bad return on investment
The good thingsThe people you work with are always good.
The challengesUnfortunately upper management and generally poor working conditions sap any hope of being able to call this a good work place.

Great employer, team events and positive culture however no a sustainable position.
The good thingsGreat team culture, management actually engages with staff. No politics or hierarchy. Great staff discount.
The challengesOnly take on employees on a casual basis; work hours cannot be guaranteed so not suitable for primary bread winner, however great for uni students or someone looking for a "hobby" in the gaming/pop culture space.

The experience and training I did manage to get helped me move on and get a much more fulfilling, better paid job that does everything I was missing out on.
The good thingsPeople lateral to you are usually amazing, you make a lot of friends. It gives you a stepping stone into a proper job in the industry you're interested in. Additionally provides experience and, if you can make some, references.
The challengesThe salary generally far below industry average for most, if not all positions. Progression is locked behind who you know, regardless of how much you do. Your personal life comes second to the company in the eyes of upper management (regardless of the situation). Work Life Balance is tilted in the extreme towards the company.

My time working here gave me the opportunity to develop better communication skills with customers
The good thingsYou get to work in an environment where games are the focus.
The challengesIt's hard to get a job at EB games because of competition or lack of positions
