Interesting organisation with a lot of promise, but there is a lack of clarity in roles and functions and support from management
The good thingsGreat shared vision, really nice peers, lots of celebratory events and great office facilities.
The challengesProcesses for the sake of processes that slow things down. No one is interested in changes or improvements. Leadership is out of touch and many have no interest in understanding the people under them and many that are not suitable for their role. HR are not very supportive and appear to only focus pn protecting the business rather than employees.

Too much red tape, lack of efficiency and sense of entitlement from employees
The good thingsGreat salary, paid fairly and where I see my value. Great support from my line manager and colleagues in my department. Working for an organisation that is trying to secure our future through ensuring we look after the environment.
The challengesWay too much bureaucracy (even for the public sector) and processes just for the sake of processes, it feels like some people do not wish to let go of processes as they are more worried about losing their job than being efficient. Too many people with a sense of entitlement, and too many long term employees, which creates a lack of creativity and fresh ideas. Career employees who will work their until they retire (or longer in some cases).

    An experience..
The good thingsFront line staff are driven to protect the environment, which drives a strong and healthy peer culture
The challengesI really care about the environment and am highly motivated to strive for the goals EPA sets itself out to achieve, but I won't go back. The organisation banks on the passion of staff, so many are unpaid (compared to equivalent roles elsewhere) and the workload is crazy. They're happy to print off certificate of appreciation, but it doesn't translate into progression or opportunities.

    Out of touch
The good thingsThis is one of the better government departments
The challengesKaftkaesque nightmare. Veneer of diversity and inclusion. No relation between pay, authority, and competence.

The worst experience of my career so far.
The good thingsThere's free fruit on Wednesdays.
The challengesHorrifically bad management. Meetings on top of meetings on top of meetings (and then more meetings!). Constantly planning and never getting any actual work done.

Although a short contract, felt welcomed immediately and all staff very approachable.
The good thingsThe moral is positive. Everyone is valued.
The challengesA lot of chiefs, so an arduous approval process.

Potential to be amazing, but needs a massive clean out from the top down.
The good thingsThe staff have a camaraderie and shared purpose which made for very strong peer-to-peer bonds.
The challengesIn recent years, the executive leadership has gone down the toilet. Micromanaging, no strategic vision, poor communication, no gumption and no follow through. Bureaucratic processes where they needed to be loose, and loose processes where they needed to be strong.

Frustrating place to work, everything moves slowly.
The good thingsWork life balance, flexibility, casual workplace
The challengesToo many levels of management, lack of trust, lack of opportunity, false promises, arrogance of leadership, easy to be pidgeonholed.

Passionate workforce and an organisation driving a positive future for our environment
The good thingsAt the heart of EPA is a passion for environmental sustainability, doing the right thing, and the health and wellness of all Victorians.
The challengesEPA staff want to be the best they can for everyone: the community, their clients, their team and themselves. This pressure comes with a desire to work harder and longer.

Started great, working with great people on things that made a difference for the community and environment, then unwound as the organisation grew in a way that they cannot properly manage
The good thingsTrying to tackle the environmental challenges facing the community; access to flexible working arrangements; some passionate environmentally-minded people
The challengesInept management; excessive appointments at high VPS/salary levels; non-collaborative approach of leadership; low maturity in corporate reporting; large amounts of public funds blown on 'transformation' that often is disconnected from theoretically-related projects and not 'product focused'; execs either unable to make decisions or make decisions without required info (then unwilling to step back when the information is provided)

A very worthwhile experience, but keep an eye on leadership
The good thingsReally important work. A great team and director Was a great place to work especially under old CEO but he left :-( Gone backwards in recent months with change in leadership and style of new CEO, no soul if that makes sense.
The challengesVery busy and while the work is great it gets very hard when it is relentless and little community understanding or appreciation of role. New Board and CEO don't support business enough - seem to be too caught up on their Agenda. That's a big part of me leaving.

    disappointing
The good thingsThere's some great people here. Flexi time(if yiu manager supports you) and VPS salary range is about 20k higher than industry standard.
The challengesManagement! Cannot makena decision and stick to it. Culture of secrets. Unfortunate culture of behaviour issues not being addressed by management.

    Frustrating
The good thingsNice immediate team and good city location
The challengesExtremely risk averse senior leadership team with no understanding of how to communicate with the public or what the public needs. Not a good place for proactive or passionate people - your ideas will go nowhere and you won’t be able to develop the skills to go elsewhere later. Great for work life balance, more so if you are a parent - more than half the office is away during school holidays and nobody bats an eyelid

The good thingsIt’s toxic, don’t do it

A great place to work with huge opportunities for career development.
The good thingsGreat opportunities to develop career with support of management. Interesting and diverse work with long term environmental benefits.
The challengesThe restructuring of the authority following an Inquiry will in the long term be beneficial but causes obvious challenges in the interim.

The good thingsHighly skilled and passionate people; Good organisational facilities and resources on the whole; Important and engaging public interest work; Overall positive culture and workplace moral

EPA Victoria is a place of work where I can be proud in my next career endeavours
The good thingsWork life balance is great in this organization because there always a room to share your family issues with your colleagues who were able to support me in the lowest times of my family.
The challengesDelivery of EPA mandate is a very challenging aspect in ensuring the protection of the environment in Victoria. Some of the challenges would be EPA tend to be legalese and not focus on the risks.

Great place to work if the management team was a little more in tune.
The good thingsThe people there are the BEST. They are so passionate about what they stand for. Genuinely honest and caring too. Work life balance is awesome. The flexibility on offer cannot be bettered!
The challengesManagement is a bit of a let down, especially in the IT areas. The new managers have a 'do as I say, not as I do\" attitude. This caused a lot of uneasiness and unrest in the organisation. Unfortunately the CEO and their team are oblivious or unwilling to take action.
