The delusion of happiness comes with blinders.
The good thingsHigh pay is great to have
The challengesResponsibility of leadership, they run aspects of the business like amateurs but its a buddies club. They monitor the staff and pressure them rather than process improve.

Great, would recommend working here to anyone, have no intentions of leaving anytime soon
The good thingsGreat pay, benefits, culture, training and development. Top 1% job in Australia
The challengesAs the company is getting bigger, it's slowly moving away from being about the average joe and more into a corporate world.

Challenging workplace that offers little long term reward
The good thingsRemuneration is above average
The challengesCorporate culture is toxic and focused on a purple circle rather than objective based performance. Foundational values make it hard for support functions to feel valued by operational teams.

Stay way from the Fzero/ decarb department if you value your mental health.
The good thingsThe initial days of Fortescue Zero, team worked on new technology which was a great. Great Talent pool.
The challengesManagement need a severe reality check. Top managers know only traditional way of mining which does not translate well when it comes to working on new technologies like Hydrogen, Electrification etc. Absolute chaos, and senseless internal politics. The company has wasted so much good talent.

Our primary objective in the mining sector is financial gain, and its here.
The good thingsThe compensation is excellent, surpassing that of other leading mining companies. Furthermore, the people and management are friendly.
The challengesThe food at the camp is certainly better than having nothing to eat.

    All talk, no action.
The good thingsGood pay and bonuses
The challengesExtremely poor management. The values are just words on a screen. They don't live them. The push for diversity means the wrong people are getting the wrong roles over highly skilled people. Management listens to nobody. Nothing changes no matter the input and they preach "family" as a value but will cast you aside as soon as you don't fit the mould. Worked with some great people but absolutely awful management structure with no accountability.

Money's good but DEI, and blatant and excessive nepotism kill team experience and defeat th epoint of their "values"
The good thingsThe pay/bonus, dividend/share structure can be rewarding
The challengesManagement knows nothing of the roles that frontline workers have and just numbers on a screen- zero epople skills. Running short crews constantly. Like many others have said, purple circles and middle management is atrocious. With people being funneled into roles and progressing quickly based on their friendships/relationships instead of experience and work ethic. This includes giving unfair pay increases and career advancement. Favouritism and nepotism in everyv job but it seems more blatant and excessive with FMG, no support in extreme cases so I've seen around me everywhere here. People stay for the money only which is up tho them but it's really sad to see considering how many are being treated.

The good thingswhat the most i like working FMG are everyone are provided accommodation, food and enough room to rest at the end of the day. providing comfort using internet connection enough to communicate family and friends have enough rooms watching TV, movies having unlimited coffee and tea.
The challengesThe challenging having exposure to heat is a tough day

This is not the company it used to be.
The good thingsFlexibility and working from home options. Site culture on frontline teams still very good.
The challengesYou’ll only be successful within Fortescue if you are within the purple circle. Push for diversity is introducing unskilled people even at management level. Workload, burnout, under-staffed, high staff turn-over, politics and tensions between work areas and business units in mentally draining.

One look at the lack of diversity in management shows all.
The good thingsFortescue is filled with good people and the company at least tries to present itself good

    Diversity and Exclusion
The good thingsDecent pay package, good bonus,
The challengesThe diversity and inclusion program is really crushing the morale of the crew. Often roles are filled with people who dont have any experience or knowledge about the job and are given priority over other people with the qualifications and knowledge. The internal vacancy system doesnt help you out if you aren't connected. Its a real shame. Why try if the game is rigged from the begining?

Loved working at Fortescue but they are suffering growing pains and Senior Management have little control.
The good thingsStill a great culture amongst the frontline work teams
The challengesThis is not the company it used to be. Senior management seem to pick and choose which values they apply at any given time. Push for diversity is introducing unskilled people even at management level.

Fortescue promotes people who do not live the values. People are rewarded for circumventing the vision and values of the company, simply paying lip-service to them. It's heart-breaking.
The good thingsMade some life-long friends that have become family. The Fortescue Family Values in essence are achievable.
The challengesManagement make poor decisions that limit the potential of staff. Management fail to play to the strengths of team members.

    FMG = Facts Missing Generally
The good thingsNone at all. As typically with this type of company a whole lot of fantasy goes into to build up the brand.
The challengesEverything. Poor to non-existent managerial support, a culture of fear stymies any improvements and general poor morale in every aspect of this diabolical company.

Gave up a job to work there and wish I had never had. One of the worst decisions of my life.
The good thingsGood Salary, few good people working there.
The challengesSo much politics, a blame culture , they have their values written on the wall, but you soon learn they are just words. They in no way live by them.

If you are happy with just being a tiny screw in an large machine it is the company for you.
The good thingsWork environment is friendly. The people you work with are helpful and working from home arrangement is flexible.
The challengesCareer Progression. Applied for many roles internally, did not even get zero interviews and no respect were given with fellow FMG employees. The medium is the message, do not apply as an internal candidate if you want to progress your career with FMG. It is much better applying as an external candidate.

Initially exhilarating but workload can lead to burnout.
The good thingsExperience across a broad range of projects. Working with a dedicated, highly skilled team. Initially exhilarating working at Fortescue until a very clunky restructure.
The challengesWorkload, burnout, under-staffed, high staff turn-over, politics and tensions between work areas and business arms. Values are commendable but rather one-sided. Not being provided sufficient support. Poor organisation across teams, amplified during restructure.

Having worked in the organisation for 3 years at the time of writing this, I can say that my experience has been nothing but positive. The environment is great even though with human dynamics, it is not possible to entirely prevent scenarios in which someone dusrupts or harms a positive workplace environment. Career progression is real, not just theorised, and I myself have progressed between roles, teams, and business units within Fortescue.
The good thingsProgressive culture, more inclusive than any other I have experienced. The permanent employee 'perks' are good.
The challengesThe internal structure and processes can be challenging, but that will be felt more by those who resist learning how to navigate it properly.
