Workload doubled, support was lacking, communication one‑sided, and recognition minimal. The good thingsWorking from home 4 days a week, as it provided much needed respite from the local HR Team culture.
The challengesI worked in this role for several years and want to share my experience. The workload doubled due to headcount cuts, with no reduction in actual work or increase in support. (Long hours are expected).
Communication felt one sided. In my view, the HR leadership was lacking. I did not feel safe, respected, or heard.
In my experience, HR leadership failed to demonstrate a basic understanding of the operational realities of the role and therefore, could not provide any meaningful support. Recognition was limited, and credit for my expertise and work outputs were frequently redirected elsewhere.
I would strongly encourage future applicants to ask detailed questions during the interview process about management style, workload expectations, and how concerns are handled.
