Wish I'd never applied.
The good thingsA couple of good laughs with the boys
The challengesHierarchy over merit culture. Long hours and lots of travel daily to poor accommodation and nourishment. Overwork, and nepotism creeping in. Improvement initiatives have the opposite effect. pot shots at easy targets while the real problems remain unaddressed.

get payed to do bare minimum. Wouldn't risk working underground unless safety is improved.
The good thingsscenery & nature is amazing. most of but not all the people are great to work with
The challengesthe company does not care about health, safety and environment. Heavy Safework AU, Union & EPA involvement (for our own good)
Management never claims responsibility. All sit in an office offsite and are rarely present and enjoy the free paycheck.

white collar
Jun 2025
Cooma NSW 26302 to 3 years in the role, former employee
White collar - Sapped of all enthusiasmThe team itself was great, but management and internal processes were lacking. I was led to believe a promotion was imminent, told it was “on its way” and “just awaiting signature,” but it never eventuated. Unfortunately, I was not the first to experience this, and I likely will not be the last. There is also a concerning culture where some individuals, despite being clearly unqualified or toxic, try to mask it behind forced friendliness.

Consruction Manager
May 2025
Cooma NSW 26304 to 5 years in the role, former employee
The recruitment process does not communicate in terms of status of position applied for, only status in progress, and this happened for just over 2 years until I pulled my applications
The good thingsNot so much as good working here, as I applied for many positions over the years, and not once did I receive any information regarding status of application
The challengesGetting to know who to talk with regarding a role

Get everything in writing. Never trust management.
The good thingsStarted out good. Colleagues are good.
The challengesManagement promise the world and never deliver. Was promised promotion and pay rise that took over 18 months to resolve and when done it was for less than half what was promised and not back dated. Disgraceful & dodgy business practices.

Supervisor
Dec 2024
Cooma NSW 2630
Back to the bad old days
The good thingsThe money is good and the scenery / location is nice.
The challengesSemi literate staff. Misplaced / mismatched staff. Extremely poor leadership; there are labourers organising things because so many of the engineers have very limited english language (and engineering) skills. Workplace safety is not taken seriously. The camp is dirty and the food is third rate.

Terrible in nearly every conceivable way.
The good thingsKinda cool living and working in the mountains.
The challengesThe management do nothing to resolve after issues. Production over safety every day. Cheap engineering labour used because no one with any self respect wants to come to this job anymore
Camp is terrible, and food is gross.
