    Manager
    Dec 2025
Adelaide SA 500019 to 20 years in the role, former employee
I cared and gave too much for nothing in return. After 19 years, no thanks, just hostility.
The good thingsThe support from colleagues who I consider friends. The smiling faces of the children and watching them grow and develop.
The challengesA genuine chance to be heard when faced with toxicity, and lack of support from your 1 up. Unfortunately when you are just an educator or just a CM, a business partner, RM, or ER will believe the ones above you. Grievances to above went ignored, unanswered. Accusations of not advocating for the company, no recognition of 19 years of service, no desire to investigate my concerns told me I cared for the company than they cared for me. G8 lost a dedicated employee. An employee with integrity, worked in own time on the weekends and after hours. Whose core values went above and beyond. G8 care more about whats in their own pocket than trying to retain employees. We are really just a number. Unfortunately so are families and the children.

Only if its the last job on earth should you consider working for G8. Money is their only focus.
The good thingsUnfortunately not alot. Like others have stated. There are NO benefits working here other than the relationships formed with the children and families.
The challengesCentre Manager should work on her interpersonal skills and communication. This last year has been awlful. Inexperienced, toxic, speaks ill of the company and children in care. Complaints to higher management went unanswered.

So many employees leaving, I regret the time I put into this company.
The good thingsWhat i enjoyed is strengthening my knowledge around early education, and the relationship formed.
The challengesChallenges are meeting my own philosophies around child safety and providing quality care on stingy budgets. The company’s focus is purely profit at the cost of childrens resources, maintenance and educators mental health.

Challenging at times, but deeply fulfilling and full of learning.
The good thingsOne of the best parts of my role is working alongside such a passionate and supportive team. I love collaborating with educators, helping them reach their goals, and celebrating our achievements together. The sense of teamwork and community within the centre makes every day enjoyable.
The challengesThere are definitely challenges in juggling multiple responsibilities and ensuring everyone feels supported, but those moments have also been the biggest opportunities for me to growth.

Unfortunately a company that takes & takes. Their number 1 priority is profit, & personal bonuses
The good thingsMy connections with new faces.
The challengesEverything, .... I acknowledge g8 is for profit but, just wow. I ignored the many verbal warnings to not bother but I figured people were exaggerating. My philosophies around child safety and quality care differ to that of the company despite what they claim. My Area Manager could also do with some confidentiality training. Business partners and upper management need to reflect on their communication style and interpersonal skills.Yelling at others because budgets are not being met isnt professional. Hopefully the company takes a moment to reflect on why people are leaving. This isn’t about being disgruntled it’s about wanting things to improve.

Only in it for money, I get its a business but profit shouldn't trump safety and care
The good thingsRelationships. I have made some rewarding connections.
The challengesThere are ongoing issues that continue to be ignored. Expectations for educators & managers are understabdably high, but there’s little support or time to meet them. Staffing is constantly short, leaving educators burnt out & CM's under pressure to cover shifts while still meeting unrealistic budgets. When targets aren’t met, criticism replaces support. Supervision & safety are at risk because staff are stretched too thin. The company’s focus is clearly profit over people. The food budget is inadequate, professionalism & confidentiality from AM is lacking, eg gossiping over RM's mood & other CM's to their favourite CM's is concerning & the company’s so-called values are nothing more than words. Real change requires investing in staff, improving conditions, & genuine care for their employees. Treating your team like a number its no wonder you have high staff turn over.

    Unsupportive leadership
The good thingsGreat connections with families, Can refer to the departments when required, decent people to work with.
The challengesUnsupportive centre directors, inexperienced centre directors that they think they know it but don't, work place issues aren't taken seriously from area manager or support office.

Area Manager does not practice confidentuality and unsupportive.. Only pump money into the centres if getting their Assessment and Rating. Money and profit is more important that any team members well being and the safety of the children. Management above the area manager have no clue what it is like to work with the regulations on top of the unrealistic budgets and massive paper work load. There is no time for the children because our heads are paperwork. Performanced managed over the little things instead of supporting ethically. Micro managed, and the company WILL NOT support with relief staff preferring to stress the current team instead. So exhausted :( Worst place ever. I stuck it out as long as I could but my priorities of providing quality care differs to the primary focus of meeting budgets. Don't meet budgets? You are performance managed.

Needs an overhaul of Directors and anyone higher up the food chain! Terrible company. Money hungry! Would not recommend!
The good thingsBuilding strong and trusting relationships with families, and children.
The challengesPay is not worth the effort you put in. Not enough time to complete all the demanded work load. No support from anyone higher up. No appreciation from the company. Unprofessional, arrogant Directors. Children are not their first priority.

Very sad end to a long and dedicated career.
The good thingsChildren and Families and some Educators
The challengesInexperienced Management completely lacking in understanding or empathy causing many resignations, staff shortages and serious supervision issues. Money is their focus, educators are just numbers, and treated with contempt .

If you are happy to be treated as a number, over worked, work under roof, constant roster changes so the company can save dollars. Minimum programming time, completing paperwork on the floor because programming got cancelled then this is the company for you.
The good thingsI can only say, the relationships with the children. There are no perks that G8 have that other companies don't have. If anything, benefits are far better at other companies.
The challengesBeing treated like a number. Company doesnt care if you have to work under roof, stressed, or overworked. They only care about money saved & making profit. New employees are offered above award whilst current employess are working hard on the award. This shows how the company values their employees

At first the company appeared to care about their staff, but after 4.5 years I can see this isnt the case. If only they cared about their staff as much as they did about wages and making profit. They seem to care about work life balance, but again this isnt the case, you will be pushed out if you cant meet their demands.
The good thingsI enjoyed building relationships with the children and family members, Friendships formed with collegues
The challengesI don't like feeling like just a number. We are supposed to be nurturing, and the company is getting worse when it comes to valuing their staff. We and are just a number to increase profit

Inconsistent directives. Told to complete your paperwork but then asked why are you not supervising. Supervise then get into trouble for not doing your paper work. Honestly if you value yourself work elsewhere. Im now employed for another company who offers more % off their childcare fees and above award.
The good thingsChildren, 50% off childcare fees
The challengesWorking for a company that is purely out to make money. Employees are just a number
