A great step in my career
The good thingsGartner was a very inclusive and accepting working environment. In my short time working there I was able to make numerous healthy working relationships with other employees and even with senior management.
The challengesAs a trainee, I was on a very small salary for the amount of work I was doing. Other than that, the workplace was healthy and productive.

If you have your own mind and are a strong character this is not the place for you. However if you just want money, and don’t care for the consequences then go for it!
The good thingsTraining, technical capability, brand
The challengesThis is a machine in the negative sense. Very sophisticated and very capable, alas the machine has become the driver and the environment is one of dehumanised micro management.

Get in for the experience and move to a new opportunity in 2 years.
The good thingsWorking with the clients and analysts. The team spirit is high for some groups because they are not hung up over metrics.
The challengesOnly thing they focus on is the metrics. Relationships don't matter - client or team member. It's a pure sales mindset. Top performers from big organisations move here and fail. Definitely not about the mindset of employees but management.

    Poor leadership in recruitment
The good thingsThe wider sales business has very passionate and intelligent people that are a pleasure to partner with and learn from.
The challengesThe leadership in the recruitment team lack any vision, knowledge or ethics to be considered effective. Zero interest in what’s best for their team outside of achieving kpi’s, and at times lack integrity.

    Enjoyable and Memorable
The good thingsFor my position, great work/life balance, steady pace, nice colleagues and non-CBD location
The challengeslack of interesting work, pace can be too slow, too many levels of management, Gartner acquires too many companies and ignores some of the small acquisitions

If you get a good territory, life is good, but if you get a bad territory, life is miserable.
The good thingsGreat induction programme. Good sales framework, and great if you get a good territory.
The challengesTerritories are split, then given to two new AE's. Sometimes territory is oversold and under delivered. Significant management pressure to produce. If you are not making your number, no work/life balance.

Great learning experience, learn what you need and don't burn yourself out.
The good thingsGlobal company, great access to the most senior in large organisations.
The challengesExpect to work long hours. 6am-11pm days in the office aren't atypical. Working weekends doing proposals. Everything you do is judged under a microscope.
