Do not work at the Steel Mill in Whyalla. Upper management are very bad.
The good thingsI didn't enjoy anything other than the Roster, which changed atleast 4 times since working there.
The challengesHR and management accountability. Their egos far outweigh their abilities. Hubris and arrogant.

management have no interest in supporting staff or improving work life balance. The work place is a toxic environment. Work load is excessive and unachievable. Salary is average considering the stress and treatment from management team.
The good thingsThere aren't any good things that Simec mining can offer to counter the poor treatment of employees.
The challengesIf you're thinking about a career in mining with a supportive team and career opportunities. Simec mining is not the place to work.

ARC is has to be the worst company to work with.
The good thingsARC The operators are lovely, customers can be easy to work with.
The challengesARC is toxic, the company is disorganised, no support given, high school politics, too much responsibility for the pay. Procced this company with caution.

A company looking to refresh their image and status in the industry, watch this space.
The good thingsManagement are keen to progress and grow their business. Aligned to green steel initiatives and supporting their environment.
The challengesThe steel industry can be challenging in general. Long hours and hard work are required to get the job done so more staffing would always help.

An organisation with a well-considered acquisition strategy and great potential, but lacking operational and strategic management experience.
The good thingsTechnical expertise within business units during my time in the business was world-class.
The challengesNew ownership and executive churn has resulted in a lack of strategy across the group, ad-hoc responses to changing markets, and reduced collaboration across the group, resulting in the formation of silos and a deteriorating experience for customers.

If you’re Whyalla based already, come work here. If you’re looking at moving, go somewhere else.
The good thingsGreat coworkers, good money for Whyalla, home every night.
The challengesChallenging market prices and poor management at the top level with no foresight leads to a company constantly in financial struggle.

    Don't work in Head Office!
The good thingsThe technology is pretty good.
The challengesThere are long rows of desks where everyone sits facing each other. It's not so much open plan as battery chicken. The turnover is huge and many people are contractors. Management have no idea and just lurch from crisis to crisis. They keep running out of money until they find another lender to borrow from

Great place to work and I'd highly recommend it.
The good thingsThere are some great people working in the company, a great collaborative culture and good leaders.
The challengesAt the time I left the company was in administration, so funding at that time was very limited. I understand this is changing now with the purchase.
