Can meet some lovely people but management sucks
The good thingsPeople who you work with
The challengesManagement absolutely sucks. There is no such thing as feedback within the store as no managers are actually trained adequately. Instead of being up front they would rather take a passive aggressive approach leaving notes in the planner, sending directed texts or taking you off the roster/reducing your hours out of nowhere. High turn over cause whenever someone isn't performing how they want (even though they most likely aren't trained) they will find the next new person train them up and replace you. Not only that but the workload is absolutely ridiculous. No wonder the store is in a constant state of disaster as their whole system doesn't work even if you "explain the up & overs", plus there is never enough coverage to help maintain or educate customers. Absolutely ridiculous would NOT suggest working here there are so many better clothing companies to work that aren't stingy, will properly train and provide feedback for staff members.

Ghanda southland ... I do not reccomend
The good thingsThe employees were really nice and it felt better to feel like others felt the same as you.
The challengesThere were many challengers that came with this job. The enviroment was very negative and not supportive at all. Within a busy retail workplace you want a support, fun enviroment but no thsi is not what Ghanda gives. The manager constintly putting you down, telling all employees they have not done enough work, when really they are being over worked. Would not reccomend this store.

    Toxic work environment
The good thingsThe discount was good, and some of the other staff were nice.
The challengesToxic high school work environment. Super high turnover of staff. The store manager hires her close school friends. They would all regulary gossip about other employees, and would be on their phones in the corner, whilst the ones who weren't her school friends, like myself, would be working the work of five people. Extremely unprofessional in front of customers as well. The manager cancelled shifts last minute all the time, but expected you to drop everything within half an hour's notice to come in straight away if there was someone sick. In addition to this, your shifts would be cut instantly if you couldn't come in to cover one day (out of 20 that you did go in). I have friends who work at other stores under this company, and they have had similar experiences. The worst place I have ever worked. Would not recommend.

I wouldnt recommend working at Ghanda...
The good things30% staff discount, nice clothes and the poeple I worked with.
The challengesThe shifts are so inconsistent. You can be working almost 30 hours a week, then out of nowhere everyones shifts get cut to nothing. If you actually get a shift, many times you get rostered on by youself for hours, having to close the store just go to the bathroom. And i cant even BEGIN on the stock boxes... they desperately need a stock room in ALL stores. Its a big unorganised mess. Theres so much more i can say about the systems snd processes, but simply, just do NOT work there.

A toxic workplace where burnout is common, driven by poor leadership from the owners down—avoid it for the sake of your mental and personal health.
The good thingsThe staff that I had working for me were mostly great.
The challengesRegionals are toxic, only pointing out faults, even if they contradict past instructions. They undermine staff, and the NATIONAL MANAGER was the same. Stepping on managers for promotions was encouraged. During my resignation, the national manager said she expected more for what I was paid!

Don’t work for ghanda, it’s not worth it.
The good thingsMy in store team was probably the best part of the job
The challengesHead office and regional manager are a joke, I got micro managed non stop. Was manager for nearly 2 years and saw my regional 7 times. Ghanda only care about sales and not the actual in store issues. Working 38 hours a week but only offered a part time contract. Worked most days alone

Senior management engages in actions and speech that are unprofessional and inappropriate
The good thingsThe sales assistants I worked with were highly professional and supportive.
The challengesWhile working at Ghanda I felt my boss the regional manager was unsupportive. In my experience, my regional manager found ways to micro-manage me and nitpick small things. The regional manager spoke through her actions and tone to belittle me. I resigned after I saw and experienced the National Manager herself also engaging in acting in a way that was unprofessional and inappropriate.

There are no words to describe how toxic and bad it is to work here.
The good thingsUmmm... literally nothing but if I have to say, SOME of my coworkers were really nice and fun to work with
The challengesEverything about this business needs to be reviewed and fixed. if you sit down for 2 minutes because you've been working hard all day cleaning up the mess that the closing shift left, you get reprimanded by the manager. Any small mistake you make leads to you getting an email threatening to cut your hours (from the 5-hour week you already get). they do not care about their store-level workers, we are all constantly overworked and stalked through the cameras by the regional manager. I found myself constantly asking for more hours just to be told to wait for Christmas time when the hours will be good, only for them to spend all the hours on training new staff instead of hiring and training them earlier, they take hours from people that have been working. the upper management is so toxic and expects so much from the employees who receive the bare legal minimum (up to the cent) I know if they could pay us less then they would. don't pay us for completing the training through an app that they expect us to do in our own time. While I am grateful for the store manager giving me a chance and hiring me, giving me retail experience, I would never wish for someone to work here. they do not care, any time off you want to take will be questioned, even at a casual level. do not work here, you will regret it.

    A breeding ground for burnout
The good thingsUmmmmm, let me think……………………………………………………………………………….the feeling when you resign.
The challengesIf you are reading this, hello. I am glad you are here. Unfortunately, I did not read the employee reviews before applying for a role at this company, and it was not long before I realised there job advertisements are completely falsified and laughable. If I had done as you are doing now I would have saved myself a lot of time and turmoil chasing the fictitious dream I was sold. So, with that being said, I will begin… Working at this retail store has been a frustrating and disappointing experience. The pay doesn’t come close to matching the demanding workload, and employees are constantly expected to take on extra tasks without any appreciation or compensation. The environment is made worse by upper management, who are disrespectful and disconnected from the reality of the job and show little respect for their staff. They are quick to blame others for their poor decisions and their communication is either nonexistent or condescending, making the workday even more unbearable. You will have to fight for your sick and compassionate leave because your physical and mental health means nothing to them. There is no work-life balance as a store manager and it is company policy to allow casual shifts to be cut up to an hour before. Staff are left alone up for long periods of time and are unable to take their breaks, drink water, or even use the bathroom. The staff turnover is like no other. It is an achievement for a staff member to remain with the company more than a few months. They are money hungry and your opinion does not matter. You can voice your concerns till you are blue in the face and nothing will change. They would rather continue to hire new staff every few months and open new stores than to address their issues. Overall, this job is underpaid, overworked, and poorly managed. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for a healthy or supportive workplace.Avoid it if you value your time, mental health, or career.

    Drained, overworked and under appreciated
The good thingsLittle to nothing is that good at Ghanda
The challengesEverything was a challenge. You will get little to no support from your regional manager and hear nothing from anyone higher. You get 1 week of training then you’re expected to know everything and be able to EVERYTHING on your own. It’s your job to clean everywhere in the store and if you’re at a large store like I was you’ll be constantly cleaning whilst trying to balance stock management, visual merchandising, rostering, store presentation and so much more. The culture is horrible - staff come and go very quickly. Pay is terrible for how much you have to deal with and the fact that you’ll have to answer the phone 24/7. They will sell you the dream and make out like you’re gonna go far in order to keep you doing a horrible job that leaves you with no time to do anything outside of work. There is next to no support from anyone.

    An absolute joke
The good thingsSOME of the staff at a store level are amazing.
The challengesSave yourself Don’t be fooled by this brand. Work life balance? What’s that? Expect to be on call 24/7, on your RDO, your annual leave, when you’re sick. Like most retail companies their staff is underpaid and overworked. Upper management (head office, regional managers, cluster managers) could not care less about your physical and mental health. Gossiping coming for up top and no one having a nice word to say about anyone. Favouritism from head office and regionals. If they decide they don’t like you regardless of how good you are at your job you won’t be fired, just made so miserable until you have no choice but to resign. You are expendable. You are simply the sale you make. Nothing more. If you take a sick day you may be asked to work extra during the week so they don’t have to pay you for not being in work. Many stores don’t have back rooms so there could be up two 50 boxes delivered at one time which will have to be left in the floor creating a workplace hazard for not only yourself and your staff, but also customers. Customers will of course then blame you for them not being able to access parts of the store/ be unable to get through with prams and wheelchairs. Expect daily backlash from customers in regard to the companies returns policy or lack of. Like all customer service roles you will have to deal with rude customers, however after working in many retail roles with many different companies I can say that Ghanda has the worst I have ever encountered. Constant theft which you will be responsible for. Be expected to work by yourself for long hours and be told you can’t close the store to go to the bathroom. Unrealistic expectations, especially when you could be working alone for up to 5 hours. Expect your words to be twisted by upper management and used against you. The highest turnover of any brand I have ever seen; a store manager is lucky to make it 12 months. Little to no support from upper management, only criticism. You will most likely be alone for most of the day with a three hour lunch cover. During this time you are expected to complete the daily housekeeping, serving on POS, checking the change rooms and putting back the items, clearance lists, VM memos, callbacks, Online Stock Requests, reply to emails and complete stock which could be upwards of 50 boxes a week.

I started this job when the store I was at opened. They sold the job like it would be a fun loving environment and super chill (first red flag). Everything you do will be micromanaged, the higher up management will not care about you or the store you’re at. The turn over rate is ridiculously high, There is no backroom. which means even if you get 50 stock boxes, which happens quite a lot, you’ll be expected to get those out ASAP because the look of the store is more important than your sanity.
The good things- the people - the discount, although bare minimum
The challenges- management is toxic - everything is so micromanaged - no backroom - too much pressure on every little bit of the job

The good thingsThe people you work with are pretty great. High management team are nice until you make a mistake
The challengesXmas period you'll get lots of shifts, however as soon as that ends, Ghanda will not have high budgets and therefore your shifts will suffer, I went from 4-5 shifts a week to 1(either 3 hour or 5 hour)shift a week.

I love working for Ghanda, it’s motivating and engaging, there’s always something to do :)
The good things I’ve found Ghanda to be very supportive and motivating in this time. In my experience management on all levels are incredible to deal with, they are very relatable, understanding, approachable and definitely always available which is awesome. Whilst it is a fast paced environment and there is always stuff to do, you are always met with understanding and proactive solutions to any problems you may have. In my 6 months I have already been given opportunities to build and grow on my skills from travelling to different stores to help and train staff even to opening a new Ghanda store so there is ALWAYS room for growth for employees. You receive a 30% discount which is cool, the vibe is really fun and chill and the team really reflect that. I would highly recommend becoming a staff member of Ghanda Clothing.
The challengesLots of stock to unpack- but that’s any retail store. Manually written out gift cards- nothing really bad about it, just time consuming.

Ghanda Clothing has been an enjoyable job and provided me with retail experience. You need definitely to be very confident at customer service to thrive in the role as a Ghanda Clothing retail assistant. If you enjoy a more relaxed working environment I would recommend Ghanda Clothing as the main task required throughout your shift other than customer service is folding clothes which I found to be an enjoyable task.
The good things- Upbeat store environment - Enjoyable tasks such as folding and hanging clothes - Shifts can be from 3-hours to 9-hours (flexibility) - Exchanges and store credits are available - Staff discount available - Breaks given to you during your shifts (5-hour-plus shifts only)
The challenges- Customer service requirements (you MUST greet AND serve EVERY customer in-store) - Asking every customer for email adress (no membership cards) - Explaining multi-buy clothing tags to customers regularly - Customer not understanding multi-buy deals due to the 'confusing' sale tags - Manual/hand-written gift-card/store-credit process - No return policy - Tasks can be repetitive if you don't enjoy folding clothes
