Like many vet businesses Greencross struggles to attract and retain vets. Salaries are below average
The good thingsGood focus on team culture, similar to other successful consumer brands, and walks the talk with nice charity and feelgood stuff. Genuinely trying to make it a fun place to work esp for younger staff.
The challengesUnderstaffing, undertraining, underresourcing, remote/absent management. Pays below industry norms.

Highly recommend to give it a go, try it to know for yourself rather than hearing the rumours of Greencross Vets.
The good thingsI’ve really enjoyed my time working at Greencross Vet. The support from both the regional vet director, my amazing practive manager and vet colleagues has been exceptional, making for a collaborative and positive work environment. The practice maintains a high standard of care, constantly rolling out new and updated protocols that help improve patient outcomes. Continuing education is highly encouraged, with easy access to resources like VIN and Plumbs. On top of that, they cover vet board registration fees, which is a nice added benefit. Overall, it’s a place that genuinely values professional growth and patient care.

I thoroughly enjoy my days working for Greencross
The good thingsEverything is done by the book. They know their responsibilities and obligations as a company and follow them. HR has been super helpful on several occasions. They have fabulous CE opportunities and learning platforms included. An all expenses paid conference each year for all permanent staff. Opportunities for further roles in the company. Obviously each individual team makes a big difference
The challengesUpper management is spread thin and not available as much as would be desired.

    Supportive company and education opportunities
The good thingsI have been with Greencross since a grad, and I absolutely love my team and how supportive my in-clinic managers are. I feel like I have always been very well taken care of and respected in my role. There are plenty opportunities for CE and career growth as well - workshops, webinars, symposium, scholarships for training.
The challengesPay, considering there are regular price increases with little to no wage increase. Also, challenges from corporate/higher up to shorten consult or surgical times.

Supportive company in personal and professional growth
The good thingsI’ve had the privilege of growing both personally and professionally in an environment that truly values its people. I began my career here as a clinical nurse, and through the support of leadership, ongoing education, and a culture that encourages growth, I’ve progressed into management and operations roles. One of the most rewarding aspects of working here has been the access to scholarships and continued education opportunities. These programs have not only expanded my knowledge but also empowered me to take on new challenges with confidence. The company invests in its team, and that investment shows in the quality of care we provide and the strength of our internal community. Large, well-connected network that offers incredible support through mentors, resources, and a team that genuinely wants to see you succeed. The collaborative spirit and shared commitment to excellence make this a truly special place to work.

I love that we are held to a high standard and have a well structed company network.

The good thingsI find working at a Greencross clinic makes many aspects of my job less stressful. The support team really helps foster high standards of care, from well thought out Wellness plans, to good education offerings, to giving me the data and tools I need to make the right decisions in how we run things here. I know they 'have my back'. They enable me to be the best vet I can, freedom to make decisions but with so much support when I need it.

I find my role highly rewarding through hands-on patient care, supporting clients, and mentoring my team, though balancing clinical duties with management responsibilities in a fast-paced environment remains a key challenge.
The good thingsOne of the things I enjoy most about my role is the opportunity to provide hands-on care to patients and see the direct impact of my work on their health and wellbeing. I find it rewarding to support clients by offering reassurance, education and empathy during what can often be stressful times. I also value the chance to train and mentor team members, helping them grow in their skills and confidence. The fast-paced nature of the clinic keeps me engaged, as I enjoy problem-solving and ensuring the hospital runs smoothly. I take pride in my career progression and in being able to lead a team successfully at this stage in my career, while also continuing to expand my own veterinary knowledge.
The challengesOne of the main challenges I experience in my role is balancing the demands of both nursing and management within a busy hospital. While I strive to dedicate time to giving feedback and supporting the team, this can be difficult to achieve consistently when clinical responsibilities are pressing. Managing client expectations in stressful or emotional situations can also be challenging, as it requires balancing empathy with clear communication and maintaining boundaries. In addition, the fast-paced environment means that unexpected issues often arise, requiring quick problem-solving while ensuring patient care and team support remain a priority.

Overall speaking a great company that is always trying to improve over the last 10 years. A lot of mental health support and amazing CE opportunities for people who love learning.
The good things-the network of support (from case management to mental health) - scholarships for CE - easy referral to specialists/ GPs with specialties within the same company - preventative health approach (provided by HPP) - amazing new grad program
The challenges- sometimes you have to go through too many people in head office to get approval for things/ to get a change - less competitive wages compare to private clinics - variable standards in different clinics

"Why I Love Working at Greencross: The Ultimate Career Door Opener"
The good thingsIf you ever wanted to know what it's like to have your nursing career explode in all the best ways, let me introduce you to Greencross! This place doesn’t just give you a job, it gives you a launchpad to success. My career went from “just a nurse” to “Super Nurse” faster than I can prep an IV drip. From the moment I walked in, I realized Greencross is more than just a workplace; it’s like a career buffet with all the options. Want to develop new skills? Check. Want to work with cutting-edge tech? Check. Want to make meaningful connections with some amazing people? Triple check. It’s a place where you can grow, learn, and take your career to places you never thought possible. Honestly, Greencross has opened more doors than I ever imagined. Whether it’s leadership opportunities, specialized training, or simply a supportive, environment, they’ve got it all. So, if you’re looking for a place where your career can truly thrive, Greencross is the key to unlocking your full potential.
The challengesWhile Greencross has been an amazing place to grow, like any fast-paced environment, there are some challenges. The workload can get intense at times, especially during peak hours, and juggling multiple tasks requires serious time management skills. But honestly, these challenges push me to level up and improve every day. And with a supportive team always willing to lend a hand, it’s never overwhelming for long. Just part of the journey!
