If you are thinking of applying, dont.
    The good thingsnothing………………………………..
The challengesManagement was uncultured and under trained. I got called multiple names on numerous occasions by management and they did nothing. A lot of favouritism and unprofessionalism. People say the foods healthy but the store is uncleared and only got cleaned while i was there. Multiple people experienced getting looked down on. The most toxic environment.

Great working with other Crew, did not like anyone I interacted with in management, and pay was poor
The good thingsI adored this job for many months, made some wonderful friends, did not feel over/under worked.
The challengesOnce the new manager started, I noticed a severe drop in morale from everyone, dreaded coming into work, and felt violated by many of their practices. The pay was sub-par, as with many fast-food jobs.

    Toxic unorganised disaster.
The good thingsThere were a few staff members who were a delight to work with however poor management and backstabbing allowed by management I wouldn’t recommend working for this company either as a junior or senior staff member
The challengesNo organisational skills nor communications akills from upper management or owner

    Do not recommend. Horrible people
The good thingsSome younger coworkers were very kind and helpful
The challengesOlder coworkers and some younger coworkers seemed to go out of their way to make things difficult. Including not communicating with me (not telling me we had no stock of an item and watching me search for said item until another coworker yelled at me to keep doing me job (which I couldn't do without this item)) and outright ignoring when I asked questions or needed help. I am technically still employed over 2 years since my last shift as I never quit and was never fired, I have simply never been offered another shift and all my texts go unanswered.

There are definitely good stores but mine was the worst thing you could imagine
The good thingsI loved the training, I had two months of training in Brisbane and the team was fantastic. This position is very demanding but if you love what you're doing it can be a lot of fun. GYG has a lot of specific guidelines and rules which can be a lot and in this osition you have to make sure the staff follows them.
The challengesI was opening a new store and honestly, the head office was screwing everything they could, we had so much stock it didn't fit in the cold rooms, so food that must be refrigerated was outside and that was going on for weeks. Franchises didn't have experience in hospitality nor business, let alone working with people so that was a huge mess. They didn't even know the guidelines because they didn't attend their trainings full time so it ended up with them bossing around and throwing bunch of rules onto people (like that the fries you fry can sit under the heater for 20 mins - its 4,5 mins so you're serving sloppy chips). Safety meant nothing to them, a lot of hazards everywhere - drinks stocked 2 meters high and they always sent 13-15 yo to get them, shelves that can hold max 60kg each had 275kg even on the top shelve that was already broken (new store). Fired me when the extinguisher stopped working and they didn't want to close the kitchen while staff was choking and crying from smoke.

Good learning experience, however the management is awful.
The good thingsI liked learning new things on the job.
The challengesThe management is terrible. I would work a 9 hour shift and only get one break 8 hours into the shift. I would never get both my breaks, only getting the 30 minute break and never the 10 minute. Very stressful environment, I got yelled at by the franchisee for things that weren't my fault, and was expected to complete tasks I had never seen or done before.

They spammed seek and Indeed with advertisements to hire workers and leaders and sought me out because I was an amazing shift leader at McDonalds, said they’d train me how they do things then make me a shift leader there. Instead they gave me sixteen hours of work in a month without training then stopped giving me shifts.
The good thingsThe food was healthy.
    The challengesThey don’t provide training

Finished what I was hired to do & got out of there.
The good thingsThe food is good and the South American snd Mexican people are lovely
The challengesToxic company culture. Note: positive reviews here appear to come from HR. Team work and collaboration are non-existent. The “fast paced” environment is chaotic and un-professional. Management don’t have time to manage and have no management experience. The CEO’s mantra is “pressure is privilege”.

    Good, but not the greatest.
The good thingsThe food is good (most of the time). Your fellow employees will mostly be friendly and approachable, and most shift leaders will recognise you and greet you. You get a discount of 50% off a meal or main menu item during your shift hours, and a 20% discount for when you are not working.
The challengesThe management here can really depend on who they've hired to run your store, I've worked at GyG for around 2 and a half years and have had my fair share of terrible and great managers. Most shifts will leave you coming home feeling sweaty and greasy from being in front of a grill or frier station.

    Worst job I've ever had
The good thingsSome coworkers were nice. The food is actually good.
The challenges50% discount only applies during shift. Managers and shift leaders were micromanagers to the absolute nth detail. Very high stress work environment. Offered part time contract, treated like a casual without the benefits. No non-slip mats, I almost slipped on tiles multiple times.

Expect: No progression, unrealistic expectations, and favouritism of non-performing crew that leads to their promotion and increased workload on those who put in the effort. Say goodbye to your mental health.
The good thingsThe atmosphere and crew
The challengesGaslighting from upper management in head office, broken promises about progression and an unrealistic expectations that you devote your entire life to the company. It depends on the area manager you receive, but they can be very micromanaging and do not allow autonomy. No pay rise within tenure.

horrible work environment, dreaded every minute of my shifts
The good thingsenjoyed 80% of customer interactions, only time i talked to others. Food was also delicious.
The challengesThe shift managers were absolutely horrendous, one of my shift managers didn’t know how to use the coffee machine, leading to staff refusing service of coffees. New staff were not fully trained and had to figure things out for themselves, when making mistakes they were met with judgemental and snarky comments and glances from shift managers. When making mistakes, my store punished it with the managers dirty work and co workers would use you as their personal assistants in a way, i was often so overwhelmed with individual tasks being thrown at me that i couldn’t finish a single one. One cook referred to me as “stupid girl”. I also receive a huge amount of hate and bullying/exclusion within the work environment, particularly from older staff. I was denied my breaks frequently, when i couldn’t make a shift or i was sick we were instructed to reach out to other staff members in private to find a cover, at my particular location NO other staff members were willing to take your shift, i don’t blame them to be honest.

The passion for food is authentic, and the drive for growth is strong!
The good thingsI find GYG to be an honest company, genuinely striving to become the biggest and best restaurant business in the world. The passion for food is authentic and it's incredible to witness the work, energy and passion that goes in to continuous improvement. I find that I have an incredible amount of autonomy to do my job well, and I'm yet to experience an unreasonable stakeholder! A great company with a great culture.
The challengesGrowing quickly takes a lot of work, and being a company under 20 years old nearing the billion dollar revenue mark, a lot has been achieved incredibly quickly. Now it's time to do some catching up on the parts of the business that weren't as big of a priority during the initial scaling years. Overall, I would say that GYG has far less obvious challenges when compared to most other businesses of this size!
