“Valuable experience in fast-paced retail and customer service.”
The good thingsWorking at Harris Farm Markets, I’ve really enjoyed the fast-paced and dynamic environment where every day brings something new. I appreciate the focus on fresh produce and quality products—it’s rewarding to help customers select healthy, seasonal items and see them leave happy with their purchases. I’ve also enjoyed the teamwork aspect; collaborating with colleagues to keep the store organized, stocked, and running smoothly has helped me develop communication and problem-solving skills. Additionally, I value the opportunity to engage directly with customers, providing advice on produce, answering questions, and creating a positive shopping experience. The emphasis on sustainability and supporting local farmers is something I resonate with personally, and it’s satisfying to be part of a business that values community and quality. Overall, I’ve enjoyed the balance of customer interaction, hands-on work, and being part of a team that strives for excellence in fresh food retail.
The challengesWhile working at Harris Farm Markets, one area that could be improved is the efficiency of stock management during peak hours. At times, high customer traffic can make it challenging to keep shelves fully stocked and maintain a smooth workflow. Streamlining the inventory restocking process or adding more support during busy periods could enhance overall efficiency. Another potential improvement is in training for new staff. Providing more structured onboarding or refresher sessions could help team members quickly become confident in product knowledge, customer service, and store procedures, which would benefit both staff and customers. Finally, introducing more digital tools for inventory tracking or customer service could help reduce manual tasks and allow staff to focus more on engaging with customers and maintaining store presentation.

I am so much happier I left
The good thingsThe only good thing is the 25% off and the some staff you work with
The challengesThe nepotism from management doesn’t really help with staff morale. I’m forced to do other departments work while they do essentially nothing and get paid. The same circle of leaders get recognition and I get blamed for issues that are easily solvable in store. Everyone’s blaming each other and there’s too much unnecessary drama in the store making it so toxic and fake. It almost feels discriminative

    The good thingsLeaving the company
The challengesVERY Unprofessional and toxic management Management and above turns a blind eye over important issues in the store when raised. Cutting or adjusting your time on pay day to cut costs, very sneaky Double standards, favouritism - especially in the rosters Minimal training, training others with your limited experience. expected to know it all even while the company is expanding and evolving rapidly. NO support from anyone except from colleagues who share the same experience Your treated and worked like a dog and other staff who do the bare minimum get it easy from the manager and you cop the blame for everything Staff talk in their own language For an expanding company I expected more, policy agreements are being sent left and right but are never really enforced There’s no work life balance here, and your expected to feel bad for being sick or have other commitments outside of your regular hours, and even when told ahead of time Maybe other Harris farms are different though

The good thingsThe looks on the manager's faces when I said I'm leaving
The challengesWhere do I start... underpaid, paid incorrectly, time sheets altered, over worked, injured, everyone burnt out, sick, someone crying every shift, false accusations from managers who can't take responsibility, & more... all for the minimum wage x

Don't do it!!! unless you like being overworked undervalued and never paid correctly
The good thingsHanding in my notice
The challengesThere is a huge disconnect between head office and what is really happening in store. Your staff are treated poorly by customers repeatedly with management doing nothing about it. Constantly under staffed and worked like a dog for minimum wage. Teenagers left to run store at night with little to no help from an adult or management. Would not recommend anyone to work here.
