Will never work here again, regret taking this job.
The good thingsThe other team members were great.
The challengesThe manager had no business being a manager. No room for growth. Couldn’t even get training. Product knowledge is non existent and they do not care about Staff or Customers. Staff are repeatedly told they are stupid and slow.

    continuous struggle
The good thingsHaving a full weekend off every fortnight
The challengesToxic environment. If you are liked from upper management you may have a chance to get ahead even if your good at your job. no prospects for advancement. Overworked and underpaid. Some team members have been there way too long, very set in their ways and can make it difficult for those that adapt to change quickly.

An overall good first start into stepping my foot into the door of retail, great people, although mild challenges that were easily fixed.
The good thingsFriendly, patient co-workers to easily work alongside with and learn from, overall nice customers that comes within the store. I didn't have many problems working here for the first time and would recommend this place to gain employment from.
The challengesQuite a big store, easy to get lost and hard to keep up with the constant changes of prices on various products within the store. Some item's prices weren't updated on the POS, which made things difficult.

Low Salary for Enormous Work Load
The good thingsSome management provide great support when needed. Loyal customers are a joy to be around.
The challengesHead office. If you're getting smashed with stock deliveries on a daily basis, you are expected to prioritise sales over getting stock done, UNTIL you have so much stock in you backroom that its near impossible to move around, which is when you get told off and questioned as to why you've let it get to this point... Its very easy for Harris Scarfe area management/head office to judge a situation when they're sitting in their office not experiencing the challenges that are faced on the shop floor on a daily basis. Salary is considerably low for the workload you'll be expected to take on. Do not expect a positive work/life balance.

    Lovely people. Bad management.
The good thingsThe people are lovely to work with and the days are enjoyable.
The challengesOver the last few years there have been lots of cost savings through retrenchment to ensure a huge profit is made. As people go those roles aren’t being filled with anymore people so increased the workload significantly for those who are still working there. Also no career profession or recognition for additional work.

The business was run poorly, minimal training provided and I had anxiety on another level.
The good thingsI really can’t think of any good things at all.
The challengesVery micro managed Difficult to recruit team members who wanted a career Senior Management didn’t care about the company, they only cared about the dollars you were generating and how the store looked. Too much marketing and tickets to go out daily. Waste of paper, time and resource.

The good thingsOk if you want to make retail your life. Always looking for Assistant store managers.
The challengesBeing a manager is very difficult because they want you to be a storeman, merchandiser and cover for lack of floorstaff.

If you're under 21 you have the best chance of getting part time.
The good thingsThe pay is good for a mature aged (21+) casual, if you are under 21 you have a better chance of getting part time. There is online training that are transferable skills.
The challengesDoing your job isn't enough you have to go above & beyond (signing customers up to the HS Friends and/or in store credit card). Some staff members tend to be over powering and talk down to younger staff.
