    Great work, Great people.
The good thingsThe role allowed me to develop a deep understanding of sales performance, reporting processes, and commercial insights, while collaborating with different stakeholders. I particularly valued the opportunity to analyse data that supported business decision‑making and to continuously enhance my technical and analytical skills.
The challengesWhile the role provides valuable experience, there is currently no clear hierarchy or defined pathway for progression into other roles, which restricts future career development.

Great Place to Grow with a Supportive Team Environment
The good thingsWorking with the Harvey Norman Financial Reporting Team has been an incredibly positive experience. The team offers great opportunities for professional growth, exposure to interesting work, and the chance to build strong technical skills in a supportive environment. One of the standout aspects is the team culture. It’s a genuinely fun, friendly, and collaborative group, where everyone is willing to help each other succeed. The team works hard, but they also know how to keep the atmosphere enjoyable. The managers are approachable and supportive which makes it easy to discuss ideas, clarify expectations, and develop professionally. There are also regular team events, which play a big role in strengthening relationships and maintaining the positive culture. These events make it easy to feel connected. Overall, the Harvey Norman Financial Reporting Team is a great place to work, offering strong learning opportunities, a vibrant culture, and supportive leadership
The challengesThere are times when things get busy and the workload can be higher than usual. However, these periods are balanced by strong teamwork, support, and a sense of accomplishment. The efforts are well recognised and rewarded, which makes the hard work feel worthwhile.

    Stepping stones for career progression
The good thingsThe opportunity for growth and career progression I have been presented with in my time at the Harvey Norman Franchisor Office provide me with a real sense of accomplishment. I started as an admin assistant and now find myself as a category product manager.
The challengesThe onboarding process for new staff could be improved; large amounts of Harvey Norman knowledge stored in brains instead of being documented.

No help, no training, negative meetings
The good thingsSome team members were genuinely good people.
The challengesTraining didn't exist just on the floor and sell. When asking for help you would have to chase down another team member they give you 1 step for an 8 step process and leave you to serve someone else because of commission. Just get left there with the customer. Morning meetings are negative every morning nothing positive no boost of moral.

A role offering solid experience in large-scale retail lighting design.
The good thingsThis role has offered me valuable experience in coordinating with internal stakeholders, working to briefs and deadlines, and applying design solutions within real commercial constraints. It is a good opportunity to strengthen technical, design and coordination skills in a corporate setting.
The challengesAs I have only been with the company for a short period of time, I haven't encountered any significant challenges so far. The initial learning curve has been manageable, and the onboarding and support have helped me settle into the role smoothly.

When they convert Australian Stores to company owned stores, they will be a much better company.
The good thingsBig financially secure company and paid weekly.
The challengesAfter Covid the company moves franchisees very often now, you lose your job and you are given a new contract but have to go on probation again. Some franchisees are good but there is portion that are terrible and treat the staff bad.

    Supportive workplace and culture.
The good thingsStarted this role shortly after finishing university - since then, the company has helped in growing my career in IT with extremely supportive leadership and work culture. The company strongly encourages inward growth and promoting within, providing new opportunities whenever possible. Office is located in a safe suburb with on-site parking.
The challengesIncrease workload and demand during peak trade periods, however the work is rewarding.

A workplace that provides strong leadership, genuine support, and meaningful opportunities.
The good thingsI switched careers and moved into the IT department at head office. Despite having no IT background, the team made me feel supported from day one. After a year, I stepped into a Senior position, where the ongoing challenges help me grow both personally and professionally.
The challengesWorking in and supporting the retail industry often involves peak trading periods where workloads rise and longer hours may be required. While it can be demanding at times, the effort is well‑compensated and rewarding, and you can clearly see the positive impact your work has on the business.

A supportive workplace with great leadership, opportunities and strong career growth.
The good thingsI joined the corporate support office during my time in university in an entry‑level role, and over more than 4 years I’ve grown through 2 different positions within the IT department. The company has consistently supported my development with strong leadership, mentorship, and genuine career pathways. There is a clear culture of loyalty and promoting from within, and the low turnover in our corporate teams reflects that.
The challengesWorking in and supporting the retail industry means there are peak trading periods where the workload increases, and longer hours are sometimes needed to support the business. It can be demanding at times, but the work is compensated, rewarding, and you can see the direct impact your effort has on the company.

A supportive workplace with great leadership, strong career growth opportunities, and loyalty.
The good thingsI joined the corporate support office straight out of university in an entry‑level role, and over more than a decade I’ve grown through four different positions within the IT department. The company has consistently supported my development with strong leadership, mentorship, and genuine career pathways. There is a clear culture of loyalty and promoting from within, and the low turnover in our corporate teams reflects that. The environment is safe, the office provides parking, and my colleagues make it an enjoyable place to come to work every day. I now manage the very team I once started in, which really demonstrates the opportunities available here.

Supportive team and meaningful, challenging work that I enjoy
The good thingsWorking at the Harvey Norman Franchisor Office has been a positive experience for me. The people I work with are great and I appreciate the support I get from my managers. I'm encouraged to grow, learn new things, and keep building my skills. I also enjoy the culture, not only in my team, but the company. There are meaningful office initiatives throughout the year that focus on wellbeing and multiculturalism. My time is also respected, and the flexibility helps me do my best work, and I love that what I do actually makes an impact and keeps me challenged. Overall, a great place to work!
The challengesMore cross‑team collaboration - I'd love more opportunities to work with other teams.

If it won't bother you to be berated, or picking up the young coworkers' slack, you can succeed.
The good thingsStability of job was nice, sometimes interesting training events to attend, commission was OK, and you can have good environments with coworkers
The challengesThe proprietor you get will determine your experience. Their level of care in running their operation can make or break the vibe.

    Worst experience of my life.
The good thingsGetting to go home every day. Some of the people I worked with. Finally getting to quit.
The challengesNot being paid what a normal warehouse worker should be paid. Getting worked to the bone, even though we were always short staffed, The awful and stupid sales team. The horrendous proprietors who didn’t care that we were understaffed and burnt out. You can’t expect the same amount of work to get done with less and less people. The stupid and ancient procedures Harvey Norman has. Maybe get with the times? No accountability. Sales people/proprietors would just blame everyone else, or just blame the warehouse as it seemed like the easier option. The Regionals and higher ups who were meant to help us but didn’t care either. Constantly being bombarded with stupid levels of stock, even though no stock is leaving the warehouse, again no one cared we couldn’t fit this stock, almost became an unsafe work place. Just. Awful.

Work 3 times as harder as a sales staff member for less pay
The good thingsStaff discount and not much else
The challengesSales staff should not get commision as warehouse staff don't get and why do they get commision not like they have to learn about the product the customer can get that information on google sales staff are glorified order takers equal to a MacDonald's staff member.

There is no sense of togetherness in this organisation, management need to rethink their strategy to promote a healthy and functional working environment.
The good thingsThe people were inclusive and friendly.
The challengesNot a great place to start if you're new in the industry. Support and guidance is extremely limited and you're often required to figure things out as you go with little to no help. Below average pay for the workload you receive.

Good Sales Crew, bad managementMet some good team members over the years. Corporate management level have no idea what is going on and too busy stroking each others ego and pretending everything they do is the best and you just not good at getting the result. Constant push for Optus at any cost to get a contract. Low pay, if they could pay you less than award they would find a way. Weekend work all the time

The challengesClock in and clock out system using fingerprint, very strict/stingy on hours. Where in the world in 2025 do you have to physically sign off your timesheet every week? Location is very bad for public transport takers. Your salary can't afford a car either.

The worst working environment and daily mental stress.
The good thingsA commission is paid upon completion of delivery.
The challengesNot only are other employees busy, but franchisees are also occupied, so you must learn and solve everything independently. Due to a lack of information compared to long-term employees, it's easy to lose customers in such a structure. This issue is neglected. Employers favor certain employees who receive substantial support, while others struggle to address their questions properly.
