Was a great place to work until the end
The good thingsThe co workers in the IT Team, even though most no longer work there
The challengesChange of management that looks after its employees rather than how much money they can save/make

Had 0 training and would be expected to do a job I wasn't paid to do.
The good thingsThe regular customers and friends you make while there make it almost worth getting out of bed to go to work
The challengesNo training, No support, No praise, No staff (don't blame them)

I would never recommend anyone work for Haymes
The good thingsThe in-store team and BDMs are great
The challengesIncompetent middle and upper management, impossible targets, never recognise achievements but are quick to criticise, low pay by industry standards, thankless when you go the extra mile to help out, bad culture that is getting worse by the day

I did enjoy working for Haymes for a while. Culture and morale turned really bad after our regional manager left. Too many expectations of store managers.
The good thingsI enjoyed the team. My regional stores manager was really helpful and knowledgeable but sadly he left.
The challengesNational management and HR were challenging. Workload on store managers.

Haymes used to be a great place to work. On the island we had a great team of people that worked together brilliantly. Over the past couple years it’s gone downhill. Management expect the team to pull rabbits out of hats and fix the problems they created and HR are a destructive force. People are not valued. This is no longer a great place to work.
The good thingsRelationships with customers and the team
The challengesManagement, staff retention and HR

Following the passing of the owner things went downhill and some Management thought they ran the company and treated most staff poorly unless you were one of the boys.
The good thingsWhen the owner was alive it was at great place to work and there were a lot of good people working there
The challengesWorking with some of the Management and too much jobs for the boys. Also new staff getting paid more than those who were long time staff and loyal

Don't do it, the grass is brown, no matter how much paint they throw at it.
The good thingsLearning about paint and colour was great.
The challengesManagement takes credit for your work. Inactive managers, won't act on your behalf. Toxic culture. HR unapproachable. Expectations to not allow anything to interfere with work. No true regard for people. Promised promotions that never came. Manipulation and guilt trips were their MO.

No longer feels like I am working for a family business. Too many good people treated poorly over the past year. Business seems more interested in managing people out rather than investing in training and support.
The good thingsThe people in our state team are great to work with. Store teams are amazing and get the job done.
The challengesUnrealistic expectations from national management and an abhorrent HR department.

Not a good place to grow your marketing career. Best suited to laid back people that like to repeat what has been done for 15 years and socialise. More of an administrative function rather that a marketing department as the business just wants to run the same campaigns every year. Endless pointless meetings that could have been an email.
The good thingsPlenty of time to socialise over coffees and lunches. A hybrid role with only a 2-3 days a week in the office
The challengesLack of creativity. No forward thinking. No strategic planning. Everything that happens in this marketing department is a repeat of prior years or a spontaneous reactive decision.

Not an experience I would recommend, better opportunities out there and higher $$
The good thingsWonderful customers and helping people with colour
The challengesManagement out of their depth, calling themselves a family business when the family have nothing to do with anything anyone, over worked and under pressure all the time with no recognition. a company culture that would leave you scarred.

The only good thing to come out of all this was the customers, especially from working in another paint store as the manager, the trust was already built with some of them.
The good thingsThe customers are great and the "behind the scene" staff are great and friendly.
The challengesHR and the team are not people you can trust or go to. Feeling like an outsider at all times no matter how much you do or try to do or how much experience you have and your knowledge will not be good enough. Very Cliquey.

Pretty good compared to stocking supermarket shelves, but don't stay long.
The good thingsLot's of spare time waiting for customers, probably 3/4s of any shift time. Playing with paint and colours is fun. Most customers are easy to deal with.
The challengesVery corporate feel and very opaque. Seems to be a big gap between want stores need and what management thinks they need. Constantly receiving endless promo material. Lack of leadership, training and paint chemistry knowledge. Online training modules are available, but lack depth and are all at a primary school level.
