Definitely not what I thought, a leading OEM would be like. The good thingsEasy work, safe and secure employment, looks great on a resume.
The challengesManagment having no clue how to communicate with shop staff, and will not act on logical advice from experienced / senior tradesman. It doesn't matter if you're ideas will save time and money, they will ignore you. All complex work is outsourced, its literally strip, inspect, build and test on repeat. There is no flexibility, once you are on a shift you will not be moved, limited training and almost no rotations within the workshop. Sharing basic tooling between multiple sections is a common practice and very frustrating. They are incredibly slow to order tooling and equipment. A lot of what they do order is not useful and will end up sitting in a cupboard. Forget about working with specifications and drawings, they simply do not have any but you will be asked to sign off on everything you touch.
