HLB was an excellent learning launchpad; however, the day-to-day experience was consistently inconsistent.
The good thingsHLB provided the opportunity to work with small to medium-sized businesses, which allowed me to learn about the audit process from start to finish. I had great colleagues and built long-term professional relationships.
The challengesThe compensation was relatively low. Additionally, a few dominant personalities at the management level ultimately soured my experience towards the end.

I only got the job through a recruiter, the recruiter at the time was nice, but it changed when she left - RW. The Company I remember was a bit stuffy, its not a law firm so no idea why the attitude. All the associates were very academic, if you didn't have a degree you don't fit in, I had to go a work event - paint ball I believe it was, it was terrible, it was complusary to go and I wound up with the flu afterwards but it was in June & it was freezing, couldn't wait till I left. loved leaving
The good thingsthe salary was good at the time, some nice people
The challengesHR weren't very welcoming, I don't think they have an HR dept now, it seems they are bots, no one every replies to good candidates, just rejection as usual

I Would Never Want to Work Anywhere Else!!!
The good thingsWhere to start? I came to HLB with no experience or recognised training, but they hired me and patiently taught me. I love the team culture and camaraderie we enjoy throughout the day. My work colleagues have truly become like second family, and our bosses are amazingly caring and supportive of each team member. A great benefit of the small but not too small Firm structure is that feeling of family, and of being friends with all your coworkers you pass on the stairs, that the larger firms could never have. I love working at HLB and could never see myself working anywhere else. I look forward to going to work every morning!
The challengesEvery job has its challenges, but other than the heavy workload due to staff shortages, I have no complaints. It's good to always be busy!

Expect training, learning and development that will set you up for success!
The good thingsGreat people and culture, this makes everything so worthwhile and easier when working. You can expect a lot of training and learning throughout the year (both internal and external) which sets you up when interacting with clients. The client exposure is great, you generally get a lot of different industries, client facing involvement, and engagement types which sets HLB apart from many other larger firms!
The challengesWorked in audit which is known for the dreaded "Busy Season", but there is a lot of support during these times!

Working at HLB was simply put, wonderful.
The good thingsI came into this role with no corporate experience, but they took a chance on me. They were patient with my transition and help me develop and further enhance my skills. They allowed me to work with different divisions and gave me opportunities to have a minor roles in those divisions that I enjoyed being a part of. The environment at HLB is very welcoming. The staff are fun to be around. My managers made sure that I was well and would often ask me if I needed help with work that was overwhelming to me.
The challengesThe only difficulty I found while working at HLB was my transition into the corporate world. However, my managers and supervisors were very patient with me and were very helpful.

    Great place to work!
The good thingsHLB has a great culture - large enough to not be 'stuck' but small enough to not be a number. Plenty of events to meet everyone too.
The challengesWrapping your head around the systems in place can take some time, especially when this is done remotely. Despite this HLB has been supportive during the 2nd lockdown in Sydney.

The good thingsHLB fosters a supportive working and social environment - everyone around the office are very helpful and always up for a chat (no matter what position they hold in the firm).
The challengesDue to COVID-19, there have been periods of time where we have been working from home. Although I enjoy having the flexibility of WFH, I did miss seeing my colleagues every day!

I am enjoying working at HLB mainly due to its culture and people.
The good thingsThe people are very friendly and helpful. Very inclusive job and you get to try every aspect of the job before finding your preferred avenue.
The challengesStarting a new 9-5 job is daunting, and getting used to the new systems and platforms. Also the constant training can be a little too much at times.

A great place to work with some great people.
The good thingsA great firm with plenty of friendly people willing to help and guide you. The firm holds regular events so that the wider firm can get to know each other, even if not working together on a day to day basis. Covid-19 has been a challenge for everyone but I felt the firm reacted appropriately and everyone was given all the tools they needed to continue without too much interruption. I also felt that my job was secure and the firm really would do whatever possible to keep the workforce, unlike so many other organisations in this difficult time. My role is not especially challenging but I am kept busy and feel I have the support of management to progress my career. Overall, very happy I came to HLB!
The challengesI don't have any real challenges to report; having a work history in smaller organisations, just getting used to the different software used and the overall workings of the firm took a little bit of time but for the most part I felt like support was on hand to help if I was struggling with anything.

Great community of people and a modern company looking towards the future.
The good thingsThe IT team is very friendly and open to all team members contributing to projects and tasks. There are plenty of opportunities to pick up new things and self-learn on the way. Many changes have been applied in the last 2-3 years with hardware, network, and cloud migration. Great time to join.
The challengesJust the usual, such as continual software upgrades for the various accounting software.
