Wish I didn’t even accept the job, I should have accepted one of the other jobs I was offered

The challengesEverything!! It was chaotic and limited support. The employment agency they use is equally as terrible

    Great people, too many silos
The good thingsThe people are great and highly skilled
The challengesRed tape and a million meetings. Nothing changes and everyone complains about change I lacked executive support when I needed it. Completely inept at managing non-engineering projects in the IT/Digital area costing the company in financially and reputationally

    great management, benefits and pay
The good thingsIncredible managers, always putting your wellbeing first and looking for opportunities for you to grow
The challengesas its a government corporation there is only limited full time positions so they cannot create new full time roles even if the workload requires it, which makes it difficult to secure a job directly with HWC and to get around this issue they will often hire contractors instead

I have and will continue to recommend Hunter Water to my friends as a great employer.
The good thingsGreat focus on wellbeing and a genuine care for each other. Flexible working arrangements, potential for 9 day fortnight or RDOs depending on your role, supporting team. Fulfilling work.
The challengesGovernment style bureaucracy, risk adverse business and making change is slow. This is not unusual in the water industry, but it is a challenge. The pay is average for full time staff, but the benefits are worth it.

Hunter Water feels like it is going places... yes it's a government owned organisation, but we have evolving leadership and strategy, and genuinely great people who want to make a difference for our customers and community.
The good thingsPassionate, dedicated, capable and friendly people, who want to make a difference every day. Wellbeing is a lived value, and has seen significant effort and investment over the past few years. Customer and community focus. Pockets of excellence across the company. Lots of opportunity if you use initiative and put yourself in the frame. Feels like we're always looking to do things differently (in a good way!).
The challengesWe're neither a government or a private entity; there are pros and cons to both, and we're somewhere in between. Over the past few years we have been going through a period of significant change, and that hasn't suited everyone (as can be seen in some of the other reviews here). The Hunter Water of today and tomorrow feels so much better than it did yesterday and years ago. There's so much we want to keep improving that we can't do everything at once - which can sometimes be frustrating - but we are moving in the right direction.

Good people work here however top down culture is very risk averse with helicopter type management.
The good thingsDay rate is good compared to other local businesses.
The challengesVery slow and bureaucratic decision making. Zero culture for innovation. Low level scrutiny of details by management. Risk averse culture, too afraid to make mistakes.
