Advancement relies on favouritism, policies are inconsistent, culture is draining, and pay is off.
The good thingsA range of training opportunities has been available, allowing exposure to different areas and helping determine whether they align with my career direction.
The challengesThe work environment can feel toxic at times, with a strong perception of favouritism. Career progression appears to depend less on education or experience and more on remaining within informal internal networks. While interactions are often polite on the surface, requests are frequently declined under the justification of “company policy,” which can be applied selectively. This lack of transparency contributes to frustration and disengagement. Additionally, remuneration is low relative to workload and level of responsibility.

I have loved my time in the business and it has been a pleasure to come to work each & every day
The good thingsThe people I have encountered over my career from Smogon - Onesteel and now to finish with Infrabuild have been great. I currently work with an exception team, professional, self-driven and help each other and we have a good laugh which makes coming to work a pleasure for me
The challengesThere could be better communication across the board this also aligns with building better relationships which I believe is the case in other large businesses.

From shop floor to leadership, supporting my journey.
The good thingsI started my career at InfraBuild as a warehouse operator and crane driver and have been supported to grow into roles as a logistics coordinator, safety business partner, safety superintendent and now Acting HSE Manager. The company has invested in me at every stage of that journey through development opportunities, trust and leadership support. That growth has not only shaped my professional career but has also provided stability and opportunity for my family, allowing me to build a high-quality life at home as well as at work. I have felt genuinely valued and encouraged to challenge myself, take on responsibility and continue learning.
The challengesAs the business has grown and changed, the pace of work and expectations have increased, and at times it can be difficult to balance operational demands with long-term development and wellbeing. There are opportunities to continue improving consistency in leadership, communication and workload management so that people who are progressing quickly are supported in a sustainable way. Continued investment in coaching, succession planning and clearer pathways would help ensure that people can keep developing without burnout.

Supportive, inclusive workplace with a strong focus on people and wellbeing
The good thingsA collaborative, supportive and genuinely inclusive place to work. There is a real commitment to health, safety and wellbeing, backed by strong programs and initiatives, some recognised externally with industry awards. Leaders are approachable, management is supportive, and there are plenty of opportunities to learn, grown and take on new challenges. I feel the work I do makes a difference, and there is a strong sense that people care about each other and take pride in what they do.
The challengesThere is still work to be done to streamline and consolidate processes and systems, reducing complexity. However, there are clear plans in place, and improvement work is ongoing, so it's heading in the right direction.

    Highly recommend working at InfraBuild!
The good thingsI have been working here for over 3 years; it has been a great journey for my professional development. I have been exposed to many growth opportunities. Management has been very supportive, and guidance provided by mentors has been extremely helpful. InfraBuild provides a great culture, mental health support and great work life balance, highly recommend working here.
The challengesWe have had some process challenges, but good news is that management welcomes feedback and we have worked upon and fixed any challenges that came our team's way.

If you like a challenge, this industry will give you a bit of everything.
The good thingsPeople are genuine and collaborative. There’s a strong culture of knowledge-sharing and willingness to support and encourage. Flexibility in shaping your role and work hours. You are supported with your professional growth with learning opportunities and exposure beyond your core role and responsibilities. Very much a trust based environment with minimal micromanagement. You’re empowered to own your work and deliver outcomes. Opportunities outside business-as-usual tasks which keeps the role engaging and broadens your skills and knowledge.
The challenges Manufacturing is a very challenging environment and is most certainly not for everyone. If you like a challenge, this industry will give you a bit of everything. Like any organisation, there are areas being improved all the time. Especially around systems, processes and communication but the engagement and willingness to improve is demonstrated. If you enjoy working in a collaborative environment where you can contribute and grow, this is a great place to be.

Supportive team environment that encourages development
The good thingsWorking here has been a really positive and supportive experience. The teams I have worked with have a genuine commitment to its people, and that shows through the supportive culture, focus on wellbeing, and the opportunities available to develop professionally. My leaders are approachable and open to ideas, and there’s real value in that the work I do makes an impact.
The challengesLike any organisation, there are areas being refined all the time — especially around systems, processes and communication — but the willingness to improve is clear. If you enjoy working in a collaborative environment where you can contribute and grow, this is a great place to be.

Good place to work and build experience
The good thingsPeople are genuinely collaborative. There’s a strong culture of knowledge-sharing and willingness to support when you ask for help. High level of flexibility in shaping your role around your strengths and interests, rather than forcing a rigid job description. The organisation actively supports professional growth by providing learning opportunities and exposure beyond your core responsibilities. Trust-based environment with minimal micromanagement. You’re empowered to own your work and deliver outcomes. Opportunities to contribute to initiatives outside business-as-usual, which keeps the role engaging and broadens your perspective.
The challengesAs with most large organisations, decision-making and approvals can be slow due to multiple stakeholders being involved. Role specialisation means your day-to-day exposure can be narrower, as other functions are handled by dedicated teams. The culture is highly delivery-focused; a bit more visible enthusiasm and energy would enhance the overall employee experience.

    Welcoming culture, great career development
The good thingsDedicated people who are passionate about the work they do. Friendly, open, non-hierarchical culture - can have a chat with the Exec's just as much as the operators. Cares about their employees - especially Safety/Mental Health. I've progressed through a number of roles so have experienced the career opportunities and development available.
The challengesI've seen a lot of ups and downs over the years. Some gaps and challenges they've worked hard to close, others continue. There can be a siloed culture across business units which lead to some frustrating disconnected decisions/actions. Internal comms only focuses on the good stuff - so you're left to fill in the gaps about challenges that are being experienced. The dramas with the overall owner are hard to ignore...but it's best to try.

I am happy that I got out of this company.
The good thingsHad a nice bunch of people in my team.
The challengesHigher management including HR needs to listen to people and act on it rather than covering their mistakes and weaknesses. Don't treat your employees as numbers, head counts. Management and HR covers each other's back and let hard working employees suffer to appease some arrogant employees who controls the company. I would suggest if you don't want to suffer stress and don't want to attend psychologist than be far away from this company. It drains you. Deaf company who doesn't care for employees but exhibit in social media and intranet that they care for their employees like no one does. Two faced people.

Best team culture and work ethics on site.
The good thingsThe onsite team is fantastic to work with. The management — from the Operations Manager down — maintains a great culture that’s clearly rooted in the legacy days. It’s a genuinely positive, supportive, and enjoyable environment.
The challengesThe involvement of upper management outside the site often leads to confusion and leaves several projects incomplete.

    Happy to have left.
The good thingsI did make some friends who were good to work with, but sadly they left like others did.
The challengesI found the role changed alot: reactive culture, and not a pleasant experience on a day-to-day basis. I wished in hindsight I never applied to this company, and happy I left.

    In all honesty. Keep looking!
The good thingsWages positions and shift staff positions are generally well remunerated with good shift patterns
The challengesAgeing and run down plants. Extremely poor and inexperienced management, Hard to find a manager that isn't well out of their depth and therefore there is no support. Poor remuneration for day staff and an expectation that excessive hours are included within that remuneration
