What’s it like working at Jewish Care Victoria?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Employees consistently appreciate their colleagues and staff, describing them as friendly, supportive, and genuinely nice to work with. Many value working with clients and the meaningful work the organisation does for the community. The work environment is noted as caring and supportive with good team dynamics, and employees appreciate the availability of work shifts.

However, there are some potential challenges. Multiple employees indicate that management can be inconsistent, with varying levels of support and communication across different departments. The organisational culture can be hierarchical with some resistance to change and limited progression opportunities. Workload can be demanding with time management challenges, and communication and processes could be clearer. Additionally, facilities at head office could be improved, particularly regarding parking availability.

No support-terrible culture. Fear of psychosocial liability rather than perform managing/restructure
The good thingsFriendships made with amazing staff who left and the ability to engage with likeminded organisations who are aligned with what Jewish Care should be.
The challengesTop down from the CEO to ELT not doing anything to improve the culture. Good leaders consistently leaving or being made to leave after highlighting damaging incidents to ELT or HR. Bottom up horrific culture within teams.

    Don't work in Payroll here
The good thingsSome stuff are genuinely really nice in HR, IT and the rest of the finance team except payroll team.
The challengesToxic Payroll manager, unsupportive, I have never worked with someone so rude and dismissive. Nice initially then true colours exposed. Communication was often disrespectful. The fact that multiple payroll officers resigned within a short period highlights ongoing concerns about the work culture and management approach.

Toxic culture, poor leadership, and wasted potential.
The good thingsDespite the organisational issues, there were some genuinely great people I had the privilege of working with.
The challengesThe biggest challenges at JCV are caused by leadership that is incompetent, self-absorbed, and completely disconnected from reality. The organisation operates like a sinking ship, and management is too busy protecting their own positions and egos to notice or care. Processes are chaotic, contradictory, and constantly changing with zero explanation, leaving staff confused, frustrated, and set up to fail on a daily basis. Communication is virtually non-existent unless it serves to cover up mistakes or shield managers from accountability. Raising questions or pointing out problems is treated as a personal attack, met with defensiveness, anger, or passive-aggressive retaliation. The result is a toxic culture that actively punishes capable staff and drives out anyone who tries to contribute meaningfully. In short, JCV is a workplace where talent is wasted, staff are exploited, and good people burn out.
