My time as a manager at Katies was really meaningful, with a balance of rewarding moments and challenges. ( I would still be there if the situation went in a different direction)
The good thingsSecurity, reliability, loyalty, continued education, team environment and moral, I would've recommended friends to this position though unfortunately the company has gone into liquidation.
The challengesThere weren't too many challenges that I couldn't handle, though when the annual results were low the and the company showed they were heading towards closure and hours being cut for all staff members did become a challenge as I always put my staff first.

So very out of touch with their stores, staff, and stock. No loyalty to employees.
The good thingsThe music I played. The customers. The staff, when the opportunity was there to work together (which is hardly ever). Created our own energetic atmosphere.
The challengesWhere do I start...those in 'control' have- No idea how stores run or what stores need, dont listen to those who actually work/run their stores, are very disorganized and out of touch with selling on the floor/what customers want, no idea what stock is needed in stores, make irrational thoughtless decisions about well-anything. Not a lot makes sense with this company! Often having to take the initiative to make my store successful,as their ideas are based purely on eastern state sales. Unrealistic ideas about sales and targets. I could go on! Never been so stressed in a job, ever! If I didn't have such a self motivated/tough attitude I'd have been rocking in a corner months ago. As long as I do what I think is right in my store, as I know it best, then I'm happy as I love my job. These ppl running it though seem to want to trample on that at every opportunity!!! They really have no idea how to treat their employees. Without them-they wouldn't have a business! Not hard!

On a major downslide but there is opportunity to pick up a decent part time wage.
The good thingsCo-workers have always been great, and the part-time hours can be good for mature-aged workers or uni students
The challengesThe hours are only good for managers so don't expect to earn an actual living. The quality decline has been noticed by customers as are changes to the rewards programs so they're basically useless. Upper management has begun trying to squeeze as much out of employees and customers as possible. Be prepared to be micro-managed.

Great when I started but in my last year horrible and stressed
The good thingsStaff discount not only in your store but in sister brands.
The challengesThe amount of promotions that are set in store to many. Not recieving the help you need when asked. Not enough hours for lunch cover to do the jobs that they have set. So unable to give great customer service.

I would not recommend working here. Sale staff are lovely but this does not make up for all the other stuff going on there.
The good thingsMy Store manager & other sales staff were nice.
The challengesTOO MANY SALES!!!! Short shifts - unless your a manager you wont get alot of consecutive hours. Minimun staff - you work alone alot so you are always run off your feet. Average pay - & payslips that are hard to understand. Also have to check your payslip every week cause theres a good chance its wrong. Crowded stock room - Always hurting myself or tripping up. This is also because theres so much work to do alone you are always rushed. Upper management- also overworked, unfortunately this leads to misleading information being sent to floor staff and having to repeat tasks because they sent the wrong info. Happend alot.

No staff , overloaded with tasks sent constantly by email
The good thingsCustomer interaction using my skills in customer service
The challengesA Company that uses old systems that are not set up to help including paper printouts to file that are time consuming every day Staff hours cut across the Co and constant making so many tasks that you have to ignore or quickly handle customers without giving them the time they need No storage so stock is piled high in boxes unable to find what is needed whilst looking , rushing back to the next customer

I enjoyed working at Katie's it was a very balanced and positive environment. Definitely a place I enjoyed walking into each day.
The good thingsI enjoyed working with such a bonded group of girls. They showed me everything I needed to know and where happy answering questioned big or small. We are looked after and our achievements never go un-noticed. Most enjoyable thing would be customers and the continuous change of scenery in the shop! Made it an exciting little place to work!
The challengesNot much growth / development oportunities.

A Challenging And Creative Way To Meet Your Personal Goals!
The good thingsWorking with your customers and building a good relationship with them. Building a trust knowing exactly what will suit their needs and likes. As a long term employee I was able to establish a great friendship with many most of whom I still share a mutual respect for. Also, working with a great supportive team. I loved merchandising, being creative and getting stuck into the new stock. Catering for our local customers. Often had a great laugh whilst working away. Customers love seeing something new coming out. A little mess makes for a lot of fun!
The challengesBeing in retail your have to successfully manage your time and skills. I took great pride in knowing I did this well. It is crucial to meet targets which at times were a challenge due to the financial situation at times. This included rostering staff for fewer hours throughout different months. So you had to be able to be self motivated and creative, making efficient use of the time. (e.g. banking, breaks, rubbish and keeping staff up to date within a 3hr period) Also, getting the right stock. Often suggesting what our customers wanted, was not always supplied. So, you had to adapt be positive and work with what we had.
