Nice meeting new staff, horrible managers and lack of direction.
The good thingsThe people I have met. The skills I did learn as a keyholder
The challengesHead office is a total mess, And it reflects on their area managers. Was managing the store for 6 months and promised to be spoken about as store manager in new year, instead was undermined and behind my back all of my rostering privileges and shifts cut from me. Got about 2 visits from the AM within that whole time with very to little guidance.

    Don't bother.
The good thingsThe overall environment and floor staff are lovely
The challengesStopped getting shifts after being hyped up as an "Unofficial 2IC" and being told I'll have a chance to be a manager at other stores if I worked the new store for a bit to help out. No reason given for the lack of shifts other than "there's not a lot of hours" while they hired two new Staff both of which were 18/19, while the older staff were given less hours or pushed out entirely in my case. I'm still technically employed as far as I'm aware, haven't had a shift in over 2 months Kidstuff (they won't tell you until you're hired it seems) only offer two Roles unless you're higher management, Casual and Manager.

Good for a short time, not for a long time.
The good thingsThe products are so fun to learn and engage with, as well as the overall happiness customers have around the products.
The challengesOften working alone with a large volume of stock constantly flowing in. Long days.

Good for Christmas casual work when lots of hours are on offer and atmosphere in store is upbeat with lots of staff on and busy with customers coming in. A tough slog for the rest of the year with workload and limited support.
The good things30% off staff discount
The challengesStressful working environment with lots of deliveries, budgets to meet, merchandising to do, admin to complete, limited lunch cover support. Unrealistic amount of work to achieve in a day as well as serve customers. Trying to stand out when prices are higher than the other Toy retailers. Last minute sales to set up for, the list goes on …

The good thingsVery fun environment, toy stores usually are. Easygoing and the work wasnt difficult at all.
The challengesHead Office arent great and the company itself isn't doing great. Not a fantastic chance your store will be sticking around. Also Christmas is a nightmare, but thats to be expected.

The challengesHead Office Staff out of touch with their style of management only care about profit not staff ...say its like a Family however it's disfunctional...systems outdated.

    Jul 2020

    A wonderful seasonal experience.
The good thingsExcellent range of merchandise to sell with well paced and thorough training provided to do so. Enthusiastic co-workers, passionate about what they do and willing to share their knowledge. Supportive culture amongst store team. Extremely detailed product training and comprehensive, well-documented company policies & procedures.
The challengesA little disorganised for the size of store. Store-room unacceptably messy from an OH&S perspective, but seemingly overlooked by upper management (at time of emplyment)? Promotions announced with very short notice and inadequate time to implement in-store - permanent staff seemed to be put under pressure at difficult time of year.

Horrible company to work for, constant management changes. Highly judgemental. Don’t let the name of the company fool you.
The good thingsWork colleagues, busy shopping centre, making customers and children happy,
The challengesHave seen a lot of management changes since working for company management simply don’t stay in their jobs. management is judgemental and offensive, high expectations with minimal hours offered to work, workspace is always chaos. It is a challenge to actually go to work as I wake up dreading it

The challengesManagement is trash - no qualifications and no communication with those below.

Average experience because of unorganized management.
The good thingsSupportive in store team, great regular customers and fun products
The challengesPoor management from corporate team. Workplace health and safety issues because of being overstocked. Inconsistent shifts due to management's allocation of store hours. Not enough money to live off.

Extreme working conditions with no career advancement.
The good thingsGreat products and customers. In store management and staff great to work with.
The challengesNot enough hours/staff to get things done. Staff blamed for flagging sales instead of recognising outside factors. Upper management can be difficult and don’t understand instore difficulties or listen to staff concerns. Minimal career development opportunities and all casual roles - very hard to get permanent role.

It ended up being a horrible experience working for this company. It started off fun but as time went on there was a lot of ridiculously unrealistic work expectations put on every one in the store and they expected you to put in your own time to get it do
The good thingsThe products are a lot of fun to work with and the customers were actually mostly lovely.
The challengesThere was a lot of gass lighting from upper management and the work expectations were ridiculously unrealistic.

The good thingsSeeing the excitement on kIds faces when they come in, great range, happy customers
The challengesLack of communication between stores & h/o, feeling unappreciated often, disregard for comfort & at times safety of staff, overwhelming amount of stock, poor pay & opportunities for advancement. No job security

    Great example of bad management
The good thingsThe people within stores are passionate. Occasional company conferences allowing social interaction
The challengesPoorly people skilled CEO managers that neglect their duty of care of looking out for their employees and have high expectations of staff working extreme overtime. Frequent staff demotions or assigning dual/triple roles to an employee. Workplace harm tolerant
