Definitely a fast-paced and detail-oriented educational environment. But pretty fun if you enjoy teaching basic English / Maths to kids. The good thingsExcellent work-life balance it provides.
The roster is fairly fixed, meaning you work on set days when the centre is open. Each centre may have slightly different opening days and hours, but generally, it's not open on weekends or public holidays, though it remains open during school holidays.
This schedule is great if you're looking to secure time off on weekends and public holidays.
The challengesThe challenging part of the job is managing students with different personalities and working styles, all within Kumon's strict performance expectations. If a student takes significantly longer than the expected time, you won’t get in trouble, but you as an assistant tutor may be asked why.
One difficulty I still face is remembering what each student is working on. With minimum 10 students all working on different levels and materials that you see each day, it can be tough to keep track of their exact work and respond to questions from supervisors about their progress. For example, you might get asked by a supervisor, 'What work is ________ doing now?' and you need to know what workbook level they are on and their progress off the top of your head.
