Working at Kumon increases your skills in teaching, but the work environment and pay is below par.
The good thingsIt was a good experience as you learned many skills, like working in a team, co-operation was in every aspect of working at Kumon. It was an amazing experience to see that you mattered to the students, and see your impact on them and helping them achieve the best academically.
The challengesThe working conditions in my centre were very unfortunate. The managers would expect you to spend personal time on decisions relating to the centre, causing you to extend your shift. The pay was also very low considering there were many aspects of the job that were needed to be fulfilled, including teaching, administration and also centre management.

The work with kids is fine, but unclear management and poor training makes the job stressful.
The good thingsWorking with the kids, especially younger ones, is rewarding. Hours are not great pay-wise, but convenient especially for high school students. General environment and co-workers are fine and, for the most part, easy to work with.
The challengesUnfortunately, there is much to be desired working at Kumon. In my experience, the pay is at or even below minimum award wage, and you get at most maybe 3 hours a week. Management is uncommunicative and unclear with expectations, and employees have to learn from other employees or by osmosis. Little to no training is provided - you have to just figure it out even if you have no experience with Kumon processes and the many different systems in place. The kids are generally okay, but the fear of messing up hangs over your head constantly and makes it stressful and difficult to work here.

Not bad to gain experience, not good for the pay.
The good thingsQuite relaxed/free on most days
The challengesManagement needs to be more open minded, and employees need to be treated with greater respect and NOT paid literally minimum wage.

Definitely a fast-paced and detail-oriented educational environment. But pretty fun if you enjoy teaching basic English / Maths to kids.
The good thingsExcellent work-life balance it provides. The roster is fairly fixed, meaning you work on set days when the centre is open. Each centre may have slightly different opening days and hours, but generally, it's not open on weekends or public holidays, though it remains open during school holidays. This schedule is great if you're looking to secure time off on weekends and public holidays.
The challengesThe challenging part of the job is managing students with different personalities and working styles, all within Kumon's strict performance expectations. If a student takes significantly longer than the expected time, you won’t get in trouble, but you as an assistant tutor may be asked why. One difficulty I still face is remembering what each student is working on. With minimum 10 students all working on different levels and materials that you see each day, it can be tough to keep track of their exact work and respond to questions from supervisors about their progress. For example, you might get asked by a supervisor, 'What work is ________ doing now?' and you need to know what workbook level they are on and their progress off the top of your head.

Overall, it was an alright experience as i learn't how the working life is, however wouldn't recommend due to the pay and the bossy centre owners.
The good thingsI got to know how the working life was and learn't about how work is.
The challengesAmount of papers that are required to mark in a short period of time, for a less pay.

    Would not work here.
The good thingsThe coworkers who often would be high school students and uni students which is pretty nice.
The challengesI don't think it is a good place for children to be there. It is pure torment to study the boring, static, ever changing maths questions. The worksheets are for unintelligent students pretty much.

My experience was positive, and a good place to gain experience with teaching and working with children.
The good thingsThe work environment was always positive, and there were clear expectations on what was expected.
The challengesThe work always felt long and endless.

    Sometimes challenging but rewarding
The good thingsTeaching children, and watching them grow and learn was a huge upside. Essentially you help them develop, which is a valuable experience.
The challengesSome children are different and have special needs. This means you need to be able to teach from a specialised approach

Kumon aimed to help young learners be the best version of themselves.
The good thingsWorking in an environment that aimed to help younger students equip themselves with the necessary skills in mathematics and English. My experience was growth oriented and aimed to assist students with this.
The challengesThe challenges were identifying which student needed what type of help. However as time went by, and as I gained more experience, this wasn't an issue anymore.

Poor style of learning, but an eye-opener
The good thingsGood opportunities to get established in the educational centre
The challengesEducation-style is very didactic and traditional. Focus is on speed, not accuracy, and style of education encourages rote learning. Therefore staff are encouraged to display strict attitudes to rote-learning style.

My experience at Kumon equiped me with many valuable skills over the past 8 years, particularly the ability to work with people from all walks of life.
The good thingsThe positives of working At Kumon include being in a diverse environment working with families of different cultural backgrounds as well as the opportunity to recruit and train staff according to my own recruitment and training methods.
The challengesThe challenges i faced working at Kumon include the work hours (12pm to 8pm), the amount of time i spend at work by myself without social interaction while completing admin tasks before and after opening hours.

Limiting, low pay and poor management
The good thingsLimited store hours so plenty of time for outside study, socializing, sport and other. Ability to work with children.
The challengesPoor and inconsistent management- layout, teaching techniques and recording techniques were constantly changing. Very limited store hours so minimal pay, extremely low hourly rate, very limited opportunities for career development.

Work environment and job is relatively easy but everything is not very good.
The good thingsWork is relatively easy and laid back at most times- for me, I marked homework and classwork, tutored primary kids, sorted the next week's homework and handed out booklets. Pay for my branch was based on how well you performed, not how long you've been there.
The challengesHours are short (max 3 hours) and it can be a little stressful when managers pressure you to mark faster or do something you aren't really capable of (marking 15 booklets in 20 minutes or something) I got payed every month which sucked. Not much of a building block when it comes to getting another job as it does not give you much experience.
