A positive, educational workplace; great for a first job.
The good thingsLearning new things on the job and being able to explore different areas of 'arts and crafts'.
The challengesProduct knowledge for sure; learning about an entire range of goods that I had no prior knowledge of was difficult, but ultimately necessary to assist customers in finding the right materials for their projects.

Gained experience in the management of stressful situations.
The good thingsMost colleagues are supportive and respectful.
The challengesConstantly understaffed. Expected to complete floor tasks and serve customers with full attention with only 2 people on at a time. Workers made to clean store (mopping and vacuuming) instead of hired cleaners. Only negative comments from upper management expecting a completely clean store with no budget for staff in larger stores.

The challenges- lack of staffing wages - alone atleast 50% of time. -due to low staff wages, bonuses are rare.

Did not get much work, and was not treated very well
The good thingsThe first uniform shirt was free.
The challengesNot diverse at all, managers refuse to put older people on shifts and hire younger people to save money, working environment is not very supportive.

    Stressful
The good thingsBuilding a rapport with staff and regular customers. Helping customers to find what they need
The challengesThe expectations on the store manager. Little to no help from Area Managers, National Managers, Owners. RARELY any positive feedback or back handed compliments that make you feel worse. No work/life balance. Small wage budget, so no staff for a huge store and still a ridiculous amount of jobs expected to be done with no help. I could go on.

Great place for a crafty person with a hard working nature.
The good thingsStore manager is lovely and the staff are amazing, I loved the opportunity to work in a field I was interested and it gave me an awesome space to share my product knowledge and engage with customers.
The challengesUpper management are somewhat less than helpful, they lack empathy when it comes to expectations within the store and cutting back on staffing make it unrealistic to achieve everything they want done. Another thing is the lack of money being funded into stores, the systems are definitely due for an upgrade and there isn't many incentives for staff engagement.

The good thingsBeing able to make bonds with staff and regular customers
The challengesUpper management are always so negative, nothing is done right. Jobs are expected to be done with only 1 person to serve. Not a nice place to work

The good thingsMeeting people and have made friends with some sta
The challengesVery short staffed and management expect things to be done when one person has to serve, run after customers try and get pallets out, it's exhausting. They sit in their big office chair and have no idea what is involved at store level

Alright craft store, good to shop at... absolutely atrocious management, wouldn’t recommend working.
The good thingsGood co workers and creating connections with lovely customers.
The challengesALWAYS NEVER PAYED RIGHT (consistently under payed) Get in trouble for things you can’t help. Disgusting environment to work in always messy, leaking roof with mould on walls. Tiny lunch room can barely fit 1 person

What a very negative place to work.
The good thingsI had a couple good managers at different times, but that's it. Nothing else good about this place.
The challengesThe culture of the place was terrible. Customers were rude and there was no support from head office.

The good thingsnothing maybe some of the people

    A means to an end
The good thingsAll staff are hired on as permanent part time so good for locked in hours and leave payments
The challengesLincraft is a good as a means to an end. It suited my life as a student. As a career or a long term employer it isn’t worth it. Poor and lazy management with clear favouritism and no concept of product knowledge or priority. Staff are treated as a number and not people, store managers are worked harshly with little thanks. NSW regional management is poor with extreme expectations to be met. Stores close down frequently as well.

Pretty tiring, but the customers aren't too bad
The good things- A lot of customers were quite nice and enjoyed conversation - Other fellow staff were always up for some chat, real friendly - Flexible roster, manager did their best to give you the days off you needed
The challenges- 10% discount only available after 3 months of working there...a joke really - Got treated like a pickpacker really, 90% of the time I was stocking shelves - Not enough staff on the floor; maximum two in order to save money. Extremely difficult when you had major sales on and there would be long lines but only one register was open since the other team member was most likely being dragged around by other customers on the floor. - A big company on a tiny budget - meant you got paid the lowest wage that is legally possible

The good thingsThe Manager while I was there was excellent and fair
The challengesLincraft keeps pressure on their middle management to run their stores lean, which means that they're nearly always under staffed :-(
