Absolute hell working for this company I wouldn’t wish this job on my worst enemies
The good thingsI have nothing good at all to say about this company.
The challengesManagement bases rosters off of how much money you made and if you don’t reach your target it’s the employees fault that customers didn’t buy overpriced low quality activewear. All of the regional managers are so deeply out of touch it’s absolutely disgusting. They have zero respect for their employees you are merely just a number to them. They will fire you if your availability doesn’t suit them personally. You aren’t paid for overtime or any management tasks and responsibilities you have to take on before and after the store is opened and closed. If you take bathroom breaks they are docked from your lunch time. You won’t ever get a 10 minute break and you’re lucky to get 30 minutes.

Toxic Workplace that doesn’t appreciate long serving employees.
The good thingsI enjoyed the customers and Previous Employees.
The challengesI worked for Lorna Jane for 5 years. The Company goes through a high turnover of staff and managers. Shift allocation isn’t performance based on KPI’s. Although they will claim it is. Rosters are always late, staff are left wondering if they are rostered on at all the night before the roster drops. Rosters are always being cut and changed after they are published, if the store doesn’t make budgets they cut rosters. Although there is limited shifts available , most of the time 3hr shifts for casuals, management just keeps hiring young casuals. The workplace feels toxic. Performance clearly isn’t what determines your value — and long-term staff are not treated with loyalty or respect. I would strongly caution anyone seeking stable, fair employment to consider whether this is the kind of workplace they want to work at.

Run, run, run as fast as you can.
The good thingsThe women I directly worked with were incredible.
The challengesEverything is a challenge. The Lorna Jane Values are a lie. “We Think Customer.” - the only time they think customer is when management are questioning staff as to why the customer didn’t spend thousands of dollars. “We Are Accountable.” - the second the store doesn’t meet a target, they question the staff as to who is the problem within the in-store team. They want names. There is no accountability from higher up. It’s all the young casual employees faults that no one wants to buy high priced and questionably fashionable clothing in a low income area. “Challenge The Status Quo” - There is nothing ‘game changing’ about Lorna Jane other than some very questionable style choices. “We Are Hungry For Success” - so hungry for success they genuinely do not care about staff wellbeing. “We Believe In Each Other” - the biggest lie there is. There is so much toxicity between management and stylists it genuinely makes everyone so uncomfortable. Management is completely unapproachable.

Don't work there you are forced to make targets which are to high while other stores targets are low
The good thingsCustomer service Working together as a team
The challengesThe regional manager expects you to force a customer to buy there stock and if the store doesn't make budget she blamed me for it that im not traning the guys at work so she terminated my employment there.

Run, run as fast as you can!
The good thingsA handful of lovely people who hopefully will get the opportunity to escape soon.
The challengesThis has been my worst working experience I have ever had. From my non-existent induction, handover, training and support. To the awful management of multiple formal complaints of teams horrible behaviour. To the complete lack of respect for process and my skills. I have never worked with so many ungrateful, unorganised, unaccountable and uninspiring people in my life. It is pretty much impossible to get any clear, organised work handed over and you are forced to work with the crumbs that are thrown at you. The pay is poor, the no hybrid is exhausting and archaic, and the overall culture is vial from the top down. The morals and values you preach as a business are nothing more than pure rubbish and not one of upper management care at all about the collective or living by the values they preach.

Genuinely felt like everyone wanted the worst for me. No support in career development or in the role itself. Toxic, gossipy culture.
The good thingsDecent discount on activewear
The challengesGenuinely the most toxic place I have ever worked. They will pay you as little as possible and expect the world from you. Lots of gossip and cutting others down.

    Wouldn't recommend to anyone.
The good thingsWas good until there was a change in higher up then it went toxic
The challengesToxic workplace from higher up, don't appreciate you, treat you poorly, don't send you your incentives that you work hard for. Would never reccomend this work place to anyone! No work life balance, they pride themselves on empowerment but they just bring you down.

    Always think outside the box
The good thingsWorking at Lorna Jane is fast-paced and commercially focused, offering the chance to represent a respected activewear brand while managing relationships and driving account growth. The role suits those who thrive on targets, autonomy, and cross-functional collaboration.
The challengesIf you're not someone who thrives on being challenged and continuously growing, this role may not be the right fit.

    Career Growth Journey
The good thingsStarting as a People Administrator helped me get my foot in the door and led to a move into Recruitment. Even in a short time, my leaders fully supported my growth. The onboarding and training have been exceptional, and I’ve developed so much personally and professionally since joining.
The challengesI have not found any challenges at this point in time.

Would recommend if you just need a job
The good thingsCustomers were lovely. Clothing was good but the staff discount could be better. Can make some good connections with team members
The challengesIt can be boring, management tends to show favouritism when rostering and training. Not enough diversity reflected in employees. Bad organisation of backroom/very unsafe - ladder provided does not meet requirements, extremely heavy boxes piled up on top of each other - disaster waiting to happen

Fun to learn the fabrics and help people honestly - terrible when you have a manager or area manager that would suggest you add on items that were beyond horrendous to innocent people if it meant they could report back to head office with good news.
The good thingsClothing staff discount Getting familiar with product then being able to help customers find better or more suitable options for their needs that they may not have known existed / made them feel much more comfortable or even gave them confidence to get fit because they felt really good in.
The challengesThe challenges they ran would always go to the same high sales stores yet we had to act excited then write how we could have done better like we could actually personally move the stores location or Had any control over what stock and sizes we had but act like the 3 customers that entered that day would have spent 30 thousand dollars each if we just could have tried harder or suggested items that could only look good in landfill.

Great product and instore teams are fun, not modern in terms of systems, poor inventory management.
The good thingsGreat product, fun store level environment.
The challengesPoor communication and terribly outdated POS systems and equipment. You spend most of your day fixing issues or with IT fixing issues. They are also useless when it comes to stocking stores correctly. You get way too much of items that won't sell and not enough items that will.

Growth is amazing here as long as you love sales and genuinely want to make your customers experience a good one! My team was amazing!
The good thingsSo easy to sell the product and the customer at LJ is honestly amazing they want to invest in an experience and are often going on their own fitness journeys which is amazing to be apart of. Really fulfilling
The challengesYou gotta love to sell! The people who I've seen come in and out of LJ that complain are the ones who crack easily in fast paced environments and dont like having sales targets..... That's just the reality of retail from my experience.

A roller-coaster ride of experiences, growth, laughter, challenges and team work.
The good thingsThere is so much opportunity for those who embrace change and challenge the status quo. I've been able learn and grow so much from when I started. As well as working alongside incredible women who just continue to amaze me and push me to be better every single day.
The challengesThe most challenging is how quickly things can change and managing workflow to match the changes.

Lots of opportunity if you show you want it!
The good thingsThe people, brand values and ability to move to other departments in the business. The flat management structure is also very refreshing, as it means you deal with directors/C-level on a regular basis and create a relationship with them.
The challengesCommunication across departments can be less than ideal at times! But that's something you adjust to.

    Amazing growth opportunities
The good things- Amazing product + discount - Solid and relevant brand message - Lorna Jane has a very flat structure so many roles have direct access to the owners of the business. They are true entrepreneurs who have built Lorna Jane from the ground up, so it's great to learn from them and hear about their vision for the company and their insights.
The challengesFast-paced, sales environment with a heavy focus on KPIs and performance. This isn't a challenge per se, however to thrive in this environment you have to love a challenge, be intrinsically motivated and be results-orientated.

Fast-tracked career growth where you can be a part for massive change no matter your role.
The good thingsYou get the opportunity to grow and challenge yourself everyday, honestly a day doesn't go by where i haven't learnt something I wouldn't have been exposed to in another company, or been exposed to something new. Here you can actually be apart of change if you challenge the status quo. Actually being able to have an impact on a global scale is amazing.
The challengesThe business moves at a fast pace and to stay successful they pivot and make changes regularly (like daily), its great if you thrive in that type of environment, however some people can take it personally.

Incredible sales training and experience, which mostly is due to the mentoring of an externally sourced manager. These kinds of managers are rare and highly sought after, so my experience might not be a one of a typical Lorna Jane career. What I did find was an insight into a supportive, proactive, and healthy lifestyle holistic approach from the business. Activewear is only one facet of the company, and I feel extremely honoured to continue to be an advocate of the brand and its values.
The good thingsGreat career opportunities in retail. Exceptionally good management from Brandie from USA. Never worked under a more driven, focused and innovative leader. Styling training is exceptional with an incredible sales skills communication from Brandie.
The challengesBeing seen in the product is imperitive, especially to express a positive, genuine and bubbly persona of the brand. Bi-annual customer sales were better opportunities to get discounted stock, than the amount allocated for staff discounts. I've worked in many retail industries of jewellery, shoes and clothing, and this was by far the least internally incentivised brand I've worked for. Suggestions of more body positive models, maternity activewear, post surgery activewear fell on deaf ears. Only now, 5 years later is the brand innovating towards these minority target audiences.
