    Christmas Casual
    Feb 2025
Melbourne Airport VIC 30451 to 2 years in the role, former employee
Best christmas casual role I've ever had.
The good thingsEveryone was so friendly and welcoming in the arrivals department. I felt like everyone genuinely wanted me to succeed and were open to any and all questions I had.
The challengesI didn't really experience any challenges other than the one shift I worked in departures which was really hard as they have so many different rules and regulations to follow compared to arrivals.

A place you can stand out, IT infrastructure and ERP systems is what you find if you're in 2012.
The good thingsGood, supportive colleagues around.
The challengesUnfortunately all the good, support colleagues are leaving. Merch management really have no idea what they're doing. Currently in a cost cutting phase of the business so salary package really isn't competitive.

Great opportunity to have worked with them. I was involved in all processes which made it exciting and helped me grow in my career.
The good thingsGood incentives. Great if you enjoy public relations.
The challengesThe challenges are not so focused on the company itself but on airports arrivals and departures which constantly change and you have to adapt. Targets are clear and achievable.

I enjoyed working with my team as a Sales Manager. I believe I have given them a life-changing experience working with me. I have provided them the best mentoring technique to heighten their strength and develop their weaknesses to advance in their career
    The good thingsthe multicultural environment
The challengeslack of support from the higher level of management (nobody wants responsibility) lack of communication (departmental) lack of system and procedure (treading in deep water with no direction) lack of stability (clarity of job description and performance evaluation) lack of leadership (power struggler amongst managers) lack of business ethics (ignorance of the company values) difficulty in dealing with stress, mental, physical, emotional

Management was terrible, co-workers were the highlight of this job.
The good thingsThe people I worked with were definitely the highlight of the job. Most people were really nice and helpful. Most of the staff incentive schemes were pretty good.
The challengesManagement was terrible. Upper management didn't listen to or care about the employee's complaints when most of the shift managers were tripping on their power.

    just depressing and stressful
The good thingsGreat is that we get training and incentives
The challengesVery very bad management. Especially when you need to look for a manager or assistant managers, they always not there. They do not support you and micromanage all of the staffs like kids. No consistency and kept changing rules and very rude to staffs.

Great teammates, amazing management, career and sales skills development galore!
The good thingsThe option to choose between morning, afternoon or night work to fit in with other commitments such as university, kids or another job. Really supportive management staff who are willing to go the extra mile to develop your skills. Loads of company run product education and trainings to develop sales skills. Good benefits and rewards from brands stocked in the store. Fun environment with friendly team and amazing customers off on holidays to exciting places! Great pay when working nights also.
The challengesI worked night shift in departures, which was the most fun and quiet of all the shift options. It fit in well with my schedule at the time but can become quite taxing after a while. Also working either in the morning when it is really busy or in arrivals where people are exhausted and stressed, is nowhere near as fun!

    Horrible. Would not recommend.
The good thingsThe incentives were great.
The challengesPeople always questioned the high turn over rate of staff. It is because the management is extremely poor.

Overall, I had no problems or issues with management or the work, just the work environment.
The good thingsRetail staff work in lovely, fresh stores in front of house. The staff are a real mix of races and cultures. Interesting to hear some of their stories. The work itself was interesting.
The challengesBehind the scenes offices such as the Cash Office leave a lot to be desired. Cramped, uncomfortable. Seats are not ergonomic. Outdated equipment and furnishings.

The good thingsDifferent from retail. Customers are going to be traveling easier to serve.
The challengesWe have got very high individual target, sometimes there's a war between the staffs. And management was in chaos when I was working then, we changed managers several times.

    Dynamic and Challenging work environment
The good thingsFlat Structure and visibility to top management of the work carried out. Management allows for innovation and trying out latest technology.
The challengesDynamic and ever changing environment, less organised and poor processes. Limited career growth due to smaller teams. Too concerned about time and cost rather Quality of work

A whirlwind crash course of the duty free industry in a business that's bursting at the seams.
The good thingsFast paced environment, great brands/suppliers to work with. Incredibly organised HR department and generally lovely people. Very generous benefits and staff sample sales.
The challengesNo processes, and major work flow inefficiencies. The business needs to invest in skills and systems. The organisational structure needs to be addressed to make sure the right capabilities are present in each business function, with the right leadership. No transparency.
