The vibes are immaculate downstairs but the management must learn to respect the whole team's experience. Learn from those below you who have more experience. The good thingsThe FOH staff at the Malthouse are some of the best in the industry, a true joy to be a part of this team. I find so much joy in being a part of this team, cause in the FOH everyone has everyone else's back because in FOH everyone is diversely talented in the arts industry with enough skills to fill the building.
The challengesThe management needs orienting, they are totally disconnected from what the FOH staff do and the general operations of the business at FOH(which is the customer-facing roles that make the profits), but do love to come down to FOH to tell you how to do your job even if they've never worked in hospitality in their lives. Also getting a shift is like getting blood from a stone, they will overstaff in March/April for comedy festival then as the business slows down the rest of the year, you have to be able to fall back on multiple other jobs cause you with go from 40 hours a week during comedy festival, to maybe a single shift of 3hours length in a fortnight.
