    Supportive workplace overall, with some cultural areas that would benefit from improvement.
    The good thingsMater is generally a positive place to work. The mission is meaningful, most teams are supportive, and many colleagues are genuinely committed to delivering good outcomes. This creates a strong sense of purpose and a collaborative environment across much of the organisation.
    The challengesWithin IT, there are some cultural and leadership challenges that can affect the employee experience. In certain areas, communication and people‑leadership practices are inconsistent, which can impact team morale. Staff have also experienced situations where workplace interactions feel dismissive or unprofessional, and it is not always clear how concerns are addressed or followed up. This can leave some employees unsure how to navigate these situations. Mater has many strengths, and the majority of people are respectful, dedicated, and aligned with the organisation’s values. Continued focus on leadership capability, behavioural expectations, and transparent processes for raising and resolving concerns would further strengthen the workplace culture. The perception that some are protected or shielded does not foster a healthy workplace.
