Good if you like inflating manager ego while working.
The good thingsFood discount, Friends made while working, Looks good on resume (apparently)
The challengesManagement handing out shifts is based on opinion, not work ethic. If you are a good employee but the managers in control of shifts do not like you, you will get the minimum hours they can give you. (This is a review on the Baldivis North store, not the main store)

Good for anyone under 18 or in school, once you turn 18 i suggest you LEAVE!!!
The good thingsMeeting lifelong friends, gaining experience and getting the skills to work in a fast environment, learning opportunities, discount and learning (front of house learning was good but as you’ll see learning was a challenge as well).
The challengesLearning back of house was almost impossible, I was initially told I would be learning back of house but randomly was switched to front of house (was not told about this prior to my first shift) although I asked SEVERAL times to learn back of house (after I had successfully learnt ALL front of house) I was ignored and nothing was followed up. Getting any promotion was damn near impossible, I was promised 2 times (seperate occasions) that I would be given an internal interview to see if I was ready to be promoted to crew coach, after those 2 times of being told I would get the interview I received no interview, a month later I found out the crew coaches had a meeting and I was mentioned and the GM asked if the others wanted me to be promoted, they said no (keep in mind they were almost all under 18 and immature kids) and nothing further happened. Obviously that’s not right because that’s opinion and numbers rather than facts or actual skill.

The good, the bad, and the Maccas.
The good thingsGood first job. If you have an experienced crew coach when you start, then you easily pick up on food safety and other day-to-day risks when working with food.
The challengesLack of overall management and recognition for hard work. Constantly breaking equipment and lack of PPE. Hopeless bums working day shift make it harder for kids working dinner as more often then not you have to clean up and fix stuff after them as well as do your assigned tasks. McDonalds is also one of the only employers to refuse union contracts to pay their workers more. Even HJ's pays more than Maccas-- and the burgers are genuinely better!

Minimum wage leaves a lot to be desired
The good thingsFlexible working schedule, diverse development opportunities
The challengesTo be full time you must essentially be available 7 days a week 24 hours a day, the pay is non-negotiable and set at minimum wage, making it impossible to consider anything below a Restaurant Manager a permanent position.

A great way to start working at a young age and learn skills such as time management and working in a face-paced environment.
The good thingsCooperating with colleagues while working in a fast-paced environment to ensure efficiency when food orders are placed.
The challengesIt was overall a manageable role however if there was something I did not like it would be doing wash up which involved cleaning utensils and trays used for food production in the kitchen.

During my time working there, I gained valuable experience in customer service, teamwork, and handling high-pressure situations while maintaining efficiency and quality.
The good thingsIt was a great opportunity to gain experience in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment. It taught me how to manage time effectively while juggling multiple tasks, from preparing food to serving customers quickly and efficiently. I also developed strong customer service skills, learning how to communicate clearly and professionally while handling various customer needs. It was a chance to work under pressure during busy hours, ensuring everything ran smoothly as part of a collaborative team. Additionally, i became more detail-oriented by adhering to quality standards and safety procedures. Overall, it was a valuable experience that strengthened both my personal and professional skills.
The challengesI had to handle multiple tasks at once—taking orders, preparing food, and ensuring customer satisfaction—while staying calm and maintaining a positive attitude. This experience taught me how to stay organized, prioritize tasks efficiently, and work effectively as part of a team, even in high-pressure situations. It also helped me build resilience and confidence in managing time-sensitive challenges.

The good thingsWorking at MacDonald's has given me plenty of opportunities to meet new people and learn about there lives.
