What’s it like working at Meat & Livestock Australia?

    AI summary of recent reviews

MLA offers a highly supportive and collaborative environment where employees value the meaningful work they do for the Australian agricultural sector. The organisation is known for its excellent work-life balance and flexibility, while also promoting innovation and providing valuable resources for market analysis. The supportive culture and transparency in communication are consistently highlighted as key benefits of working at MLA.

However, employees should be prepared for certain workplace realities, including longer project implementation times due to governance requirements and stakeholder management. The compensation package may be lower compared to commercial organisations, and those working with international offices need to manage different time zones effectively. These challenges are generally offset by the organisation's strong focus on work-life balance and meaningful industry contribution.

From farms to markets around the world, MLA has given me the opportunity to grow and expand my professional experiences and work on some very innovative projects.
The good thingsI have had the opportunity to do some amazing work at MLA that I am very proud of and that I know has contributed to making a difference for the good of our farmers. As an organization MLA are brave in driving innovation which means as a member of the team, I have experienced some very cool projects. I have built a long-term career at MLA - with opportunities to move around the company including to our international markets.
The challengesBeing an industry service provider means that we have a huge responsibility for ensuring any investments are worthwhile and if there are any challenges it tends to be around project justification - it can take longer than you think to get things going but ultimately it ends up being a better outcome!

MLA is an organisation that supports staff to make a meaningful difference to increasing profitability and sustainability of Australia's red meat & livestock industry. Being responsible for maximising the impact of levies provides staff with a strong sense of purpose and gratification when achieving goals.
The good thingsMLA staff have access to great data and insight resources that enable you to identify potential opportunities for stakeholders to consider in global markets, which is very gratifying. The organisation offers great work-life balance with a good flexible office days policy. There is more attention being paid to supporting personal and career development goals. There is a strong collaborative culture between business units.
The challengesStaff that need to deal regularly with our international offices (we export 70% of what we produce) means you need to accept working beyond regular business hours and self-manage that to ensure you don't get burned out.
