What’s it like working at Metro South Health Service?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Metro South Health Service offers several positive aspects including above-average compensation with good benefits and shift loadings, and a team of dedicated colleagues committed to quality healthcare. The organisation provides good work-life balance with flexible arrangements like 9-day fortnights, and demonstrates a commitment to innovation in healthcare delivery.

However, employees have identified areas for improvement, including the need for better management support and communication, particularly at the middle management level. There are concerns about understaffing in certain areas, limited career advancement opportunities, and the organisation's approach to addressing workplace challenges, which some describe as reactive rather than proactive.

If I could turn back time and not move to this facility. I would.
The good thingsMeeting and working with new colleagues who have a genuine desire to provide safe, holistic care that supports movement towards better health outcomes. Newer facilities and room for growth.
The challengesIt is stuck in the mindset of "that's just how it is". Nursing staff are overworked and more often than not, wards are understaffed. They are slow to act on concerns raised, yet quick to say staff are incompetent. The management structure is middle management heavy while top tier turn a blind eye. The removal of educational roles from floor focused support and hands on education due to funding structures is a detriment to new and existing staff. Lack of accountability for behaviours that have been reported and are a regular occurrence - belittling, inappropriate behaviours with constant reminders for those who 'aren't coping' to reach out to EAP so they can handle the role better, instead of looking at and addressing the cause of staff burnout. Band aid solutions, no consultation, avoidance of real change, reactive, not proactive.

    No work life balance!!!!!
The good thingsThe salary is good and I made life long friends
The challengesManager lacks emotional intelligence. Doesn’t care about your work life balance. Nepotism in the system but work culture isn’t great.
