Good money with a nice view if you’re willing to work long hours and can manage to be on one particular manager’s good side. The good thingsHigh number of hours, location, one duty manager out of three at the time was fantastic, diversity of staff at the time.
The challengesLong hours, which were welcomed. But, one duty manager was horrendous. She was genuinely a reason that many staff ended up quitting. Her management style hinged on patrolling the premises, “checking” on the adults employed there as though they were children.
Although I managed to stay on her good side, the way she often treated other staff was appalling. She even implicitly threatened a staff member that their hours would be cut when they expressed that they were feeling very ill at work and needed to leave. She was forced to apologise upon sighting a medical certificate from the hospital.
She was very curt and contributed to a tense work environment.
