like working in a 19th century factory, its cheaper to hire someone else/ pay workers comp than it is to make the job safe The good thingsInteresting work,
good coworkers,
big machines
The challengesterrible roster when working shift. expect one weekend a month
you absolutely need to join your union. don't attend a meeting without management without a union rep. this work is "at will". the probationary period in the EBA exceeds the length of a season. you can be dismissed without cause and without warning.
make sure you are familiar with the EBA before you sign your contract, they might not give it to you without asking even though they are required to do so.
follow your jsa safely to the letter. if you don't you might not be eligible for workers comp.
the safety culture at this place is mostly management trying to avoid liability, not preventing accidents.
read about the enforceable undertaking that occured and you will understand all you need to know about the safety culture. accountability and speaking up is the only way things will get better.
