Good for gaining experience and stepping stone to go elsewhere
The good thingsPeople I met and worked with. Discounts.
The challengesPay wasn't amazing. No consistent hours. Eventually just don't get rostered and let go. Over hire at Xmas and then get no hours by January onwards. No opportunity to gain permanent employment

    Do not recommend Stay clear
The good thingsVariety of products You get to work in different departments The lunch room was big
The challengesThe register system was difficult to get around Toxic working environment Staff members often talking behind other staff members back. Too much chatter not enough working Not enough staff on the shop floor to help customers. Staff members attached to the registers for their sales. Staff members unfairly taking your sales even after you did the hardwork on the floor. Management untouchable and unfriendly unless they liked you. Too many clicks

Very valuable learning skills for retail, and a mostly organised workplace :)
The good thingsWorking here has given me really valuable skills for working in retail. (I specifically worked in menswear) Cleaning the floor, helping customers, and processing transactions were some of the attributes I was able to consistently develop, with every day being different and exciting! The people I worked with while on the floor were really nice, and we worked great as a team :)
The challengesUnfortunately, the management team was a bit on and off, with some managers being great but others not really understanding when to put more people on, or giving people shifts. This issue in particular wasn't great even though I and others were casual, because at some points I'd get very regular work, but other times I would work 1-2 times a month, even though I'd clearly state my very free availability for any shifts.

I am no better a man bc of who lead me in the trenches, but only because of those who laid beside
The good thingsThe only good thing about Myer Marion is the team members on the floor. While I don’t like some people in some departments, the staff more or less were supportive, kind, and considerate to one another.
The challengesMyer marion faces a systematic challenge in terms of toxic work culture, performance standards, and general ethics. The management culture surrounding this store is astoundingly detrimental to one’s mental health. If you wish to keep your sanity, do not work here. Not only will you have to be your own manager, since the ones who employ you do not know how to do their jobs, they continue to criticise everything you do wrong, whether or not they would do the same thing in that situation. There is no praise, no reward, to anything that you do, and your efforts will be under appreciated, and you will be under valued.

Don't expect to be chosen for a future role just because you have worked for them in the past.
The good thingsEarning some extra money.
The challengesThe pay is based on an agreement not an award and is therefore less on a weekend or public holiday than other employers. Changing management that don't see you as an individual.

The worst job I've ever had in my entire life. It will crush your soul. It's not worth earning minimum wage for.
The good thingsMet three nice people on the shop floor. Customers were pleasant enough.
The challengesChronically understaffed, so expect to be overworked every shift. New casual staff given the bare minimum training but management expects the world from you. The staff who have been working there for a while treat new staff very poorly.

Positive experience by way of meeting and making friends with workers. The glamour side of working in a department store was appealling also.

Great team and great company to work out.
The good thingsThe team is fantastic, and even the management is great actually feels like they care. The work itself is varied enough and quite enjoyable although part of it depends on the customers you get which is outside of the firm's control. Also, staff discounts are honestly super generous.
The challengesThe most rewarding and difficult part of the job can be the customers you get.

New staff are not welcomed at Myer city store. Suggestions to higher management would be: Please see what’s going on the floor in handbags. Senior staff members are acting like they are owners of the company. They are rude and disrespectful. If you can deal with this then go ahead.
The good thingsStuff discount Most of the team members are nice
The challengesRude costumers Rude senior staff

Undervalued staff who have given so much.
The good thingsFlagship store with full complement of women’s fashion. Working with talented affiliated staff and Brand Managers.
The challengesOffering of 3 hour shifts sometimes 1-3 times per week. Minimal interaction from most management.

Won't recommend any friend to apply job at Myer
The good thingsYour team members are friendly
The challengesWorking overtime (WITHOUT PAY) is a regular thing, compare to your workload your salary is so poor. Everyone is working under pressure, they have sales promotion almost every week, and changing paper promo is one of the biggest thing during your daily work.

    WARNING don't work here!
The good thingsMet a handful of good people. Small staff discount.
The challengesUnprofessional and clique environment with obvious favourtism being displayed by team leaders and management. Everyone is so nice when you start but that soon stops. Promises of 10hour shifts when in reality most were 6 if not shorter. Unbearably hot working conditions with no aircon or fans.

Expect to be treated poorly in a toxic work environment
The good thingsFellow sales assistants were the reason I stayed as long as I have + the staff discount
The challengesPoor management, poor communication, favouritism is evident, unsafe working conditions, less than subpar training, high expectations. For what you're paid for, it's not worth it.

Seemed friendly at first, dont give much work, ghosting when they dont need you after christmas rush.
The good thingsMost customers were friendly and other staff were friendly, managers initially seemed really nice but completely ghosted me upon the new year
The challengesThe pay is every fortnight, really hard to survive on the small amount of shifts they gave. Only a few a week even during busy periods. Shifts were usually always under 6 hours so they didnt have to pay for breaks. Some visual merchandisers acted like managers rudely directing us casuals

I heard from inside that they hired way too many people for the online distribution role, which significantly affected our hours, and also heard that because their Black Friday sales ran for the whole of November, their sales after it were substantially lower than they expected. It was disappointing that we were told one thing at induction and then were basically disposed of much earlier with little to no warning.
The good thingsThe team environment was friendly and supportive
The challengesHired for online fullfillment over xmas, and was initially told it would be a role that would extend through to February or so, and the hours would be 20-30 per week, depending on demand. We were given multiple 10 hour shifts the first week we started, over the Black Friday weekend, and then the following week our hours started to drop significantly, with shifts constantly being cancelled to the point i was only getting 1 shift a week. I quit once this started happening. A large proportion of the other staff were also let go with an email at 5pm on New Years Eve, Im guessing so they wouldnt have to track their pays over the next quarter.

A role with creative potential overshadowed by systemic workplace failures and a pervasive lack of inclusivity.
The good thingsI enjoyed collaborating with talented freelancers and contributing to creative projects. These moments provided opportunities to showcase my skills and develop innovative solutions for maintaining brand aesthetics.
The challengesThe lack of inclusivity and support for employees from diverse backgrounds, coupled with management’s dismissive attitude toward workplace concerns, created significant stress. Persistent systemic issues, favouritism, and unresolved psychosocial hazards made the environment toxic and unmanageable.

    Stressful, toxic and unsupported.
The good thingsThe other concession brand staff were the only people that kept me in this job.
The challengesThe management is extremely unsupportive. I have been ridiculed and targeted by Myer managers the whole time I’ve worked here. They treat their staff horribly yet have the highest expectations. For minimum wage, this job is not worth it. Do not recommend it working here.

Worst place I have ever worked. Not worth spending much time in a place where you don't get recognized well unless you are a friend of Team leader or the management.

The challengesNo guarantee on shift hours. No one to encourage.

    look elsewhere for minimum wage
The good thingsstaff discount is the only good thing
The challenges There is never any stationery, receipt rolls, paper bags, staff and basic necessities to run a store. Hard to get a hold of a manager. Myer does not provide any incentives for working hard but they are strict about basic things like not allowing staff to have coffee cups in the back and have unrealistic expectations of staff while providing no support .

Run. Absolute regret. Find another job.
The good thingsYou get staff discounts but i assure you it is not worth the challenges you would face
The challenges- Shifts are cancelled few hours before the start time with no reason and no heads up - Extreme shift irregularity - 0 communication with management they will not check your emails - Worst team culture, there is zero communication between team members - No career progression they do not value you - Very overstaffed but yet, they are still hiring so many casuals when the existing team already have no shifts for weeks and they are cancelling shifts - Management is an absolute joke you would find out they have no clue what they are doing but yet they are your managers
