Lack of strong leadership, growth opportunities, cultural issues,The good thingsBig Aussie media name.
Slow/Moderately paced environment.
Great commitment to invest in new technologies. ex mac, mac mini, modern tools like CI Pipelines.
The challengesTop challenges observed at Nine (in order):
1. Many many many cultural problems as surveyed and reported by an external australian company. Report is available to be viewed publicly. Please do your due diligence if you are ever planning on working here.
2. Lack of strong leadership is evidently seen esp. at the bottom levels of management. Almost all technical decisions are spearheaded under the pretense of "best practice". For most new problems, instead of simply letting young and bright minds solve it with a modern solution it is often the case where they are "led" when it in reality, spectacularly & arrogantly micro-managed.
3. There is non existent growth opportunities for a junior to mid-career engineers cohort. However it might be a more suitable place for a Senior Engineer looking to rack up some exp points. Senior Engineers are valued by their Individual Contributions instead of the impact they have on their team using SME (Subject Matter Expertise)
4. Work tends to be extremely dull often as there aren't many things to learn or to build, teams operate in a bit of silos which further widens the divide. for ex, frontend team (a,b,c,d,e), backend team, services team, identity team, vms team (team names not exact, but you get the point) and the only time you get to work together is if something is broken.
