What’s it like working at Nine?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Employees at Nine appreciate their colleagues, describing them as friendly, helpful, and respectful. The work is engaging and fast-paced, with opportunities to work on interesting content and national stories. Flexible working options are available, allowing employees to maintain a reasonable work/life balance, and the office facilities are modern and well-located. Employees also enjoy company perks such as event tickets and social events.

However, there are some potential challenges. Management practices can be inconsistent, with some employees noting issues around micromanagement and limited support. Salary levels are reported as below market rate, and career development opportunities can be limited, particularly for junior to mid-level employees. Some employees have noted cultural challenges, including concerns around workplace behaviour and accountability, which have been acknowledged in an independent review. Workload management can be demanding in some roles, and staff turnover is noted as being high in certain departments.

Toxic culture, weak leadership and unsustainable workload.
The good thingsLimited. A small number of good colleagues and the free Christmas ham.
The challengesMy experience was overwhelmingly negative and aligned with the cultural issues identified in the organisation's 2024 independent review. There appeared to be significant gaps in leadership accountability, contributing to an environment where internal politics, inconsistent decision-making, and low psychological safety were common. Trust in the organisation was difficult to maintain, particularly given concerns around confidentiality, transparency, and how people-related matters were handled. Workloads were frequently excessive and not managed sustainably, resulting in prolonged pressure and burnout. Over time, this environment had a meaningful impact on my wellbeing and confidence. While the organisation has publicly acknowledged cultural issues, it is not clear that meaningful or consistent change has been embedded across all areas, particularly at a leadership level.

A career in video editing informed much of my balanced and holistic approach to life.
The good thingsSatisfaction in creating and communicating national stories that were visually exciting and engaging. Working with teams and also injecting a positive personality into my projects.
The challengesAs news is ever-evolving, the sourcing of material and managing timeframes is always a challenge. This is always met with problem solving skills and focussed communication.

This company needs a lot of work. I wouldn't recommend working here, quick burn out, no support! You are just a number on the roster.
The good thingsThe work was interesting and fast paced, exciting to be part of
The challengesThe culture is awful, people have been there for far too long and don't care about the new ones.
