I would avoid work at the head office. It has a very toxic and unprofessional culture.
The good thingsInteresting work, but terrible management and unprofessional staff
The challengesToxic workplace culture that will not improve without deep restructuring.

Worth joining the temporary workforce once in your life to experience the work that goes into an election behind the scenes.
The good thingsThe employees are all very welcoming, from management to permanent and even the temporary workforce.
The challengesElections are irregular events that do not provide enough permanent roles to stay and learn.

An excellent opportunity to apply customer service skills to locals in a generally welcoming environment.
The good thingsA steady flow of work during elections, plenty of opportunities to apply customer service skills, a range of roles alternating between sitting and standing, clear and concise directions from management, and good communication from office staff to prepare for this role. The manager and assistant are actively interested in ensuring that staff are coping well and have been taking their breaks. Another benefit was having work opportunities close to home and easy to access along major bus routes for those unable to reach venues by car.
The challengesThe only downside is the seasonal nature of this work is beyond the control of the NSW Electoral Commission.

Professional, enjoyable, sorry it was only a temp job.
The good thingsThe professional working relationship between the recruitment agency that hired me and the NSW Electoral Commission. Plenty of duty-of-care and genuine support from both parties. Two extensions of my temp contract for NSW General State Election 2023. Overall, I've never been more motivated to serve an employer and their clients than with these two employers.
The challengesThe usual minimal training on-the-run as a temp (though this is to be expected for events with rolling deadlines). A couple of other temps who needed and received a timely attitude check. No workplace is perfect but this set-up, to me, is as good as it gets.

I enjoyed the work but I had someone above me who did nothing but belittle me and give me a hard time
The good thingsit was good experience but the people that are above you don't give you a chance to grow, they just watch and make comments under their breath at you

Completing a task for a vital process was rewarding.
The good thingsThe environment was a positive one overall for the task, communication was easy and the work was balanced across the team.
The challengesThe detail of procedure & process should have been better given the task.

It wasn't a hard job and the people I was working with were nice, just a very long day.
The good thingsWhere we were working was a nice clean working space.
The challengesNot really a challenge, but was a very long work day - about 15/16 hours

I learnt a lot about what it takes to deliver an election but I definitely wouldn’t recommend it as a working environment
The good thingsFlexible working hours were supported by management
The challengesToxic behaviour and attitude of permanent staff was challenging! Poor behaviour was too often tacitly supported or ignored by Exec Leadership Team. The majority of middle management see themselves as niche subject matter experts and they aren’t particularly open to change or opportunities for improvement.

Proud to have been part of a team that contributed to the electoral process.
The good thingsThe process from the application stage to undertaking the duties of the role, had been helpful, thorough and well thought out. It had been rewarding and rewarding to be part of the team at the Electoral Commission NSW.
The challengesThe challenges were few, and that was due to the high standard of training provided by the electoral Commission NSW, which afforded thorough familiarity with the information needed to undertake the duties of the role. However, one apparent challenge when contributing to the electoral process, is the very high level of accuracy and thoroughness that is consistently needed when answering voters inquiries. That was a responsibility that I have upheld proudly and successfully.

Exciting experience as an Election Official but it's a long day on your feet.
The good thingsI worked as an Election Official during the 2019 NSW state election and it was a great experience. Felt like I was making a difference in my community.
The challengesIt's a one day gig so nothing really in the way of career building (not to say the electoral commission doesn't have permanent positions) and it's a long day. I worked around 16 hours and I'm sure others did more.

Highly recommended and if you can join their team it is a very good career move.
The good thingsVery Organised and Structured Environment. Good Support and experience from full time staff and prompt answers to emails and help desk. Apolitical. Also has a good inclusive workplace with wide and varied people from all backgrounds.
The challengesWhen near elections the pressure and time constraints can be very busy.
