I have been in the industry for almost five years and within Oceania for almost two. Oceania are a great company to work for, and even though the airline has its challenges, I can't imagine working anywhere else.
The good thingsGreat team, fun environment, and at its peak the airline industry really is an amazing industry to work in. There are plenty of opportunities within Oceania across multiple airlines, airports and roles, and plenty of hours for anyone who wants them.
The challengesAlthough it is improving, the entire industry is still playing catch up after coming to a standstill during Covid, especially with staffing levels. Delays, shift work and manual labour can also be challenging at times. Even though there are plenty of hours available, it is still near impossible to get permanent full-time work.

(Adelaide specific) A fun and enjoyable work environment where management strive to improve efficiency and are considerate towards employees, work colleagues with great camaraderie and team spirit.
The good things-Working outside (you'll have the rainy days but you can't beat the blue/sunny skies and fresh air.) -Friendly Adelaide team you'll be working with. -Chance to be trained/qualified in unique areas, specific to the airport/aircraft -Opportunity to move up into a team leader role -Opportunity to move up into a management role -Driving airside (on the tarmac) -All round enjoyable work environment
The challenges-Work can be intense, time pressure (loading aircraft) -Have to look after yourself with manual handling (the way you handle moving and lifting baggage.) -Possible 4am starts (Depending on where you live and if you are/aren't a morning person.) -Dealing with physical and mental fatiuge (Bagroom) -Constant or on going Time pressure with sorting bags to flights (Bagroom)

    Great place to work.
The good thingsNo two days are the same. Get to work with great people who put the team first. The Airport is its own little community where we get to interact with a large cross section of people from various companies. Receiving positive feedback on the services we provide. Being able to work on and around aircraft.
The challengesCan be hectic when there are multiple aircraft on the ground at once. Weather extremes.

    A fantastic and challenging experience.
The good thingsWorking on the ramp with qantas’ 737s and dash 8s was a fantastic experience. This is a very dynamic role with many different responsibilities meaning no two days are the same.
The challengesCommunicating between other companies such as Swissport, Cobham and Rex as well as Qantas ground and crew whilst marshalling is generally uncomplicated. However, on occasion poor communication has lead to frustration between everyone trying to marshal their passengers to their aircraft and can often get quite busy with multiple aircraft needing to be boarded. However your team and management will always stand by you and help in whatever way they can in these busy scenarios.

    Aug 2022
5 to 6 years in the role, current employee
I started my employment with Oceania back in 2017 with no airline or ground handling experience and honestly not knowing if I would enjoy working within the industry. Today, 5 years down the track, I now manage an airport and often provide assistance to other OAS airports around the country. Like all jobs, I have experienced the highs and lows of the role, although ultimately these experiences and challenges have allowed me build a career within Oceania Aviation.
The good thingsComradery between colleagues. Opportunities within the business. Dynamic working environment.
The challengesWeather. Challenges faced within the Airline industry (Impacts of Covid-19).
