Better stay away from them. If you like to work with always new staff, getting underpaid, go there.
The good thingsThe residents are nice
The challengesThe management doesn't care about you as a worker. The pay is many times wrong and you have to argue with them to get paid. They always give you more work to do and they have a high staff turnover. I can't recommend to work there at all, if you care about your health.

It has been a pleasure to learn, grow and bring joy
The good thingsOpal has both its ups and downs, as expected in a large corporate environment. It was a pleasure meeting and working with some great leaders in the industry. There are strong learning opportunities, and Opal is easily one of the pioneering data driven companies in aged care. I truly enjoyed working with my team and the residents, which made the role feel rewarding and meaningful. I was provided with support to grow as a young leader, and there are always opportunities to develop within the organisation. The pressures are generally tied to KPIs rather than workplace politics. Overall, it was a good experience.
The challengesTight KPIs that consistently keep you on your toes. Rapid growth has led to ongoing changes in organisational structure. There may be opportunities for salaries to be more closely aligned with market benchmarks. The General Manager role requires a high level of adaptability and emotional intelligence.

DO NOT WORK HERE I BEG YOU, UNLESS YOU WANT TO RUIN YOUR MENTAL HEALTH AND PHYSICAL HEALTH
The good thingsdefinitely the residents, and some staff
The challengesI had a very negative experience working here. Chronic understaffing made every shift stressful and unsafe, and it felt like there was never enough support to properly care for residents. Management was disappointing — instead of listening or supporting staff, concerns were often dismissed. There were also instances of inappropriate comments being made in the workplace, which made me feel uncomfortable. When I raised these issues, I felt unheard and was not taken seriously, which was extremely disheartening. Overall, the work environment felt unsupportive and, at times, quite toxic. I would not recommend working here unless significant changes are made in staffing levels, management approach, and how staff concerns are handled.

Avoid Opal Healthcare if you value your own wellbeing.
The good thingsSome lovely residents, families & co-workers, free on-site parking and close to home.
The challengesRevision to a previous review - thought it couldn't get worse but I was wrong. Opal have ruined this former BlueCross home with residents unhappy, team morale at its lowest and the workload just keeps piling on - this is the 'Opal Way'. No support from management - just relentless delegating of work. Hard work is rewarded with being given more work that others haven't completed. IT & wifi systems are horrendous, slow, unreliable and every day there is an issue of some sort. Yes - some of the difficulties faced are from Opal trying to meet quality standards however the majority are due to the way Opal runs their care communities and from trying to make one set of policies and procedures apply to every state in Australia. If you want to work yourself into the ground for an unappreciative company that puts revenue before everything and is happy for you to work short staffed but expects you to deliver fully staffed care then work for Opal - if not take my advice and look elsewhere.

Supportive workplace with a strong focus on teamwork and quality care.
The good thingsI have enjoyed working in a supportive and professional environment with caring colleagues and management. The workplace promotes teamwork, respect, and provides good learning opportunities. I also appreciate the stable work, training support, and the focus on quality care for residents
The challengesLike many healthcare roles, the work can sometimes be busy and demanding. However, good teamwork and communication help manage these challenges

Some good staff. Amazing residents but no support and some horrible managers.
The good thingsThe residents. The client service manager who is an undervalued asset and various other members of staff. I give it credit for those who made the days brighter and easier.
The challengesThe general manager treats some staff like they were dirt beneath his shoe. He believes it’s a hotel not a home for the elderly. Some staff are protected and treated favourably other staff are punished harshly for minor errors or even no error at all. The clinical manager and general manager protect their favourite staff and pressurise others. When they (management) take a dislike to a staff member they do everything possible to either fire them or make them resign. They use bias to backgrounds or abilities. Do not apply if you value your mental wellbeing. The responsibility placed on the registered staff if beyond too much. There is no support from senior staff. There is senior staff but they have become lazy and entitled. Some who choose to sit in their office watching movies rather than assist with unwell residents. The saying “too many chiefs” applies here. When support is asked for it does not come even for junior staff who may be unfamiliar with particular tasks.

There are some good things. But you will end up stressing over it. Its not worth it.
The good thingsSome coworkers are eager to help. The head chef will understand you because they hear the same stories every day. There is some support when it comes to mental and physical help (through the main company). You will get along with the nurses you work with during food service. And sometimes you get to sit down and listen to a story from an old guy... If you get everything done.
The challengesNo breaks. You will be rushed to do everything and anything other coworkers wont and will not do. (I even had a head manager come into the break room and tell me that I don't even have a 5 min break. Even though I had everything done at that point and was waiting for the kitchen to get everything done). You will be alone your entire shift. If something breaks. You are forced to leave things undone to get everything done in time. But there already isn't enough time to do everything. For the 3 years I was working there. There was no investigation into the jobs we had to do. No new job list agreement or whatever was asked of us. It was just "You are doing this now" Or "You always had to do this". Yet there was no training on those jobs. Head management cares more about budgets. Can someone check the drains and the ice machines for mold for me? There are other jobs I would always do but I can't list them here. Great job if you have no life. Also, we were always low on staff.

you'll be burnout on all aspects of life ESPECIALLY MENTALLY being
The good thingsthere's nothing good in this branch
The challengesPoor and uneven staffing by the management. AM shift got more staffs than PM shift. Management always takes in challanging behaviour residents and expect a good outcome in the facility and the only thing the management would care is a 100% occupancy rate. Management also doesn't listen to team members.

Immense opportunity for growth as an individual with opal
The good thingsThe fact that opal is always ready to support individual who need help and encourages them to grow in their field.
The challengesStaffing shortages are a very big issue faced by the aged care industry, opal could improve with more staffing on every shift.

A supportive team environment and management where you can grow and make a real difference
The good thingsI’ve enjoyed the supportive team environment and positive workplace culture at Opal Healthcare. Staff and management are approachable, teamwork is strong, and there’s a real focus on resident-centred care.
The challengesThe work can be busy and demanding at times, especially during short staffing. Extra support during peak periods would help staff feel less rushed and better supported.

Lack of Accountability from senior management.
The good thingsLovely residents, families and co workers.
The challengesMore staff to cover the sick leave. New Management who actually have empathy, take accountability for their actions, do not breach privacy and confidentiality on a daily basis. Management that boost their work force and show appreciation for all of the hard work the team do. We are losing heads of departments on a monthly basis and that is not good for staff moral. Voice of Teams cancelled for 6 months meaning that staff members do not have the opportunity to discuss challenges that they are facing. Opal say it takes a Team to build a Village but how can a Village be built with such bad management?

Management is focused on revenue from every possible source, with little regard for staff well-being
The good thingsThe frontline team that I worked with and the poor lovely residets
The challengesOpal management is very unprofessional. Their only motto seems to be making money, and anyone who brings in profit is allowed to stay in their position, even if they are a terrible manager or a bul*y. The workload is extremely high, and most staff go home completely drained. Middle-level managers rarely last due to the immense pressure they face. Opal needs to understand that aged care is not just about making money — it’s about compassion, dignity, and supporting both residents and staff.

A genuinely lovely place to work — highly recommended.
The good thingsAll the staff are very helpful. I used to work in Sydney and the environment there was great, and now here in Kanwal as well, everything is just as pleasant. It’s a really nice place to work. I would definitely recommend it.
The challengesAged care work is emotionally demanding. Feeling seen and supported reduces burnout. If it can be done at every sites its quite wounderful company overall.
