It has been a pleasure to learn, grow and bring joy
The good thingsOpal has both its ups and downs, as expected in a large corporate environment. It was a pleasure meeting and working with some great leaders in the industry. There are strong learning opportunities, and Opal is easily one of the pioneering data driven companies in aged care. I truly enjoyed working with my team and the residents, which made the role feel rewarding and meaningful. I was provided with support to grow as a young leader, and there are always opportunities to develop within the organisation. The pressures are generally tied to KPIs rather than workplace politics. Overall, it was a good experience.
The challengesTight KPIs that consistently keep you on your toes. Rapid growth has led to ongoing changes in organisational structure. There may be opportunities for salaries to be more closely aligned with market benchmarks. The General Manager role requires a high level of adaptability and emotional intelligence.

DO NOT WORK HERE I BEG YOU, UNLESS YOU WANT TO RUIN YOUR MENTAL HEALTH AND PHYSICAL HEALTH
The good thingsdefinitely the residents, and some staff
The challengesI had a very negative experience working here. Chronic understaffing made every shift stressful and unsafe, and it felt like there was never enough support to properly care for residents. Management was disappointing — instead of listening or supporting staff, concerns were often dismissed. There were also instances of inappropriate comments being made in the workplace, which made me feel uncomfortable. When I raised these issues, I felt unheard and was not taken seriously, which was extremely disheartening. Overall, the work environment felt unsupportive and, at times, quite toxic. I would not recommend working here unless significant changes are made in staffing levels, management approach, and how staff concerns are handled.

Avoid Opal Healthcare if you value your own wellbeing.
The good thingsSome lovely residents, families & co-workers, free on-site parking and close to home.
The challengesRevision to a previous review - thought it couldn't get worse but I was wrong. Opal have ruined this former BlueCross home with residents unhappy, team morale at its lowest and the workload just keeps piling on - this is the 'Opal Way'. No support from management - just relentless delegating of work. Hard work is rewarded with being given more work that others haven't completed. IT & wifi systems are horrendous, slow, unreliable and every day there is an issue of some sort. Yes - some of the difficulties faced are from Opal trying to meet quality standards however the majority are due to the way Opal runs their care communities and from trying to make one set of policies and procedures apply to every state in Australia. If you want to work yourself into the ground for an unappreciative company that puts revenue before everything and is happy for you to work short staffed but expects you to deliver fully staffed care then work for Opal - if not take my advice and look elsewhere.
